Sounds pretty loud for a floating bridge / end piece setup. I like yellow cedar too been using it on my last batch for inside blocks, bracing, necks and a couple tops. The grain on the stuff i have is about 30 rings per inch , like you said it is a dream to carve. I got some sitka spruce and flamed maple to make a bent side uke when you get that one done.

Ps what kind of lathe is that in the background?

Arch top instruments are supposed to be loud. Most of the yellow cedar I have seen is fine grained. I would generally use Sitka spruce for braces as it is much stiffer than yellow cedar. The lathe in the background is a Jet mini wood lathe.
