This entire ALBUM contains TONS of GREAT memories for me... thank you so much for posting! Its funny... my 16 year old niece who HATES eighties LOVES this album.... and so do I!
Ok. I'm going to open up another argument string here, I'm sure. ;) At 1:23, Vince goes into a solo without shifting octives or utilizing any additional actuators. This song was released in 1982. MIDI did not hit NAMM until 1983 (let alone mass production). Did one of my idols commit video-fraud?
@ChesterLoadstone: All sorts of Synth Sins committed here. The Roland SH series in the video was neither polyphonic, nor could the keyboard be split into to separate voices. And...where was the Linndrum?? Off-stage perhaps? lolz.... The video would have been "slightly" more believable if an Oberheim OB-Xa were used instead. Also, I think the actual recording used a Sequential Pro-One, not a Roland, but who knows...?
@nocturn07 I had this exact same Roland back then, and I got both polyphonic and split by running it through my Commodore 64 computer. It took some minor technical wizardry, but it was certainly possible.
Amazing group. Upstairs at Eric's is their best album! Every song on that album is razor. This song is hauntingly beautiful and I fell in love with an old high school friend because of it 10 years after school. Moyet's voice is extravagantly unique! Thank you for remastering and making this sound new.
Did anyone know othr than i, that Allison Moyet was Transgendered...her beautiful voice and songs say it all about her and her singles besides Yaz as well as with
They are one in the same. Yazoo were signed to Mute Records in the United Kingdom and (as "Yaz") to Sire Records in the United States.
Not to be confused with British pop singer Yazz (born Yasmin Evans) from Yazz & The Plastic Population best known for her successful 1988 dance track, "The Only Way Is Up".
Love this song and Yaz(oo) . My sister brought it back from germany when I was a kid always loved this group, later as a DJ I could hear samples of it everywhere!!
so if there wasnt a video made for this song, why have i always seen the video everywhere featuring the manequins featured on the upstairs at erics album, only they are moderately anmated..wasnt that it?
One of my all time favorite tracks, can listen to it on repeat all day. Clarke is a badass Moyet what a voice. Yazoo has to be one of the greatest groups ever
Im glad to have been a part of the 80's music...Now Im glad to have the money to crank the volume and blow out the windows and let the world listen!!!
OH Starck Club... how I miss thee... Those were the days! This song defined my life, going home with Parrish Spradling and being a young gay! Damn those were the good times!!!!!
@EyeSquaredAre I totally agree...Yaz, depeche, erasure...can anyone else claim such significant, magnificent bands on Their resume??? think not!!!!!!! Such a talent & a maverick!!!!!
Back in the 80's, my first room mate in the US Air Force was from Sacramento CA, and he introduced me to Depeche Mode, Midnight Oil, OMD, and others....Thanks CHAD!!!!!!!!!
OK, I feel the need to clear up the confusion here. The band was called Yazoo in England, but was know as Yaz in the US. The keyboard player is a man - Vince Clarke, formerly of Depeche Mode (see Just Cant Get Enough) and English singer Alison Moyet. After they broke up Clarke went on to form Erasure and Moyet had relative success as a soloist.
This was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid... I'm about to turn 26 and I am just now learning the singer is not a man. I've been so long for so long!
if bonnie and you know who you are this is one of the oklahoma wiggers from the starck days and miss you and howard although he is gone but i loved those days
I am SOOOOO happy you're posting these Starck memories! Especially Pookah and...and...well, everything! Only You still makes me cry because it was usually the last song Rick played...when it was time for after parties or to go home or to wait until the doors opened again. Thank you for all these wonderful memories!
Very sweet and tender love song!
