When This Girl sings, you can actually see the pain she was going through at the time. She seem so sincere when she sings. I know beyond the shadow of doubt, that she was missing someone very close. People seem to forget how beautiful, heartfelt, intelligent, thoughtful the lyrics to this song are. To me, it's the real strength of the song because the lyrics could've been very cheesy and sappy to fit the times but they're not, hence the longevity of the song. An underrated classic. This is songwriting 101 on display here.

My HS SH. 30 yrs ago I walked her home only 3xs then circumstances took us away from each other and went our separate way living separate lives, but we never forgot each and somehow by the grace of God, we found each other 30 years later. I am 47, an listening to this song in particular conjures op sweet memories of a long-lost love. I was young as she was, we made mistakes, but I was the worst! Oh, there's a blast from the past. In 1988, it was a guilty pleasure being a kid that loved hard rock/heavy metal. Had this song on my "mix tape" to listen on my Walkman, songs one would record off the radio (usually with the first several seconds missing or a DJ talking over the song). Its not a guilty pleasure any more., no guilt associated. I'm buying this mp3 and its going on my iPod. What a lovely voice and melody.

I just stumbled into this by accident. This song was on the radio the day I met my first real girlfriend. I had just got my license and I got my first car running. She was my first everything and always stood with me through everything. Now I am 40. I have a bad job, a car with 198,000 miles on it. An old leaky house with an old antenna to get TV. It is a mediocre life at best, but it is easy to remember my first girlfriend everyday, because I married her and I wake up next to her daily.

I guess if nothing else will succeed in my life, I succeeded where maybe 0.5% others have also succeeded. Not ever experienced a broken heart, I often forget about how horrible it is described, and must be. It must be similar to what it is like to grieve for a friend that has died. @Amybcb A friend of mine married his first everything also. Sadly, he died March. He was the first everything for his now widow also. My wife and I introduced them in 1992. He was my friend. She was my wife's, then girlfriend, friend. We parted ways, when my wife and I lost everything, even our telephone service. She reunited with us April, one month after her husband died. She made a tremendous effort to find us again. She visits us often, but she is only half a person now.

Videos back them were so cheesy and simple , I love that. No fancy clothes or insane hairstyles that real people can't obtain. The lyrics were beautiful and had meaning and you could tell she really felt what she was singing.

They were a family band as far as i remember, Brother's and sisters I think. This song went to no. 4 spot in 1988. I thought this would be their first no. 1 hit when this song went to top 10, but sadly it did not. The band haven't got a no. 1 hit.

Boy I've taken a whirl in the time machine and have found myself in a place where the song messages are as simple as the videos. It would be so great to be able to relive those beautiful days. When this song came out, my boyfirend, Daniel, was undergoing a relationship with his girlfriend who seemed to be pregnant with his child. With no disrespect to Starshoals, he (she?) is only half right. Yes, let no moment get away; time moves very, very fast, and nothing is so lost as wasted time. But while things definitely change, that doesn't mean they get worse. My wife and I's relationship is more fun now even than when we started. There are no guarantees, but there's potential for improvement worth investing work in a relationship.

I am 47, an listening to this song in particular conjures op sweet memories of a long-lost love. I was young as she was, we made mistakes, but I was the worst! Oh, there's a blast from the past. In 1988, it was a guilty pleasure being a kid that loved hard rock/heavy metal. Had this song on my "mix tape" to listen on my Walkman, songs one would record off the radio (usually with the first several seconds missing or a DJ talking over the song). Its not a guilty pleasure any more., no guilt associated. I'm buying this mp3 and its going on my iPod. What a lovely voice and melody.

I just stumbled into this by accident. This song was on the radio the day I met my first real girlfriend. I had just got my license and I got my first car running. She was my first everything and always stood with me through everything. Now I am 40. I have a bad job, a car with 198,000 miles on it. An old leaky house with an old antenna to get TV. It is a mediocre life at best, but it is easy to remember my first girlfriend everyday, because I married her and I wake up next to her daily.

@thds699 You are right. This one thing that has worked out, in my life, is extremely rare. I have never had a broken heart, nor have I ever felt betrayed by the one I love. I guess if nothing else will succeed in my life, I succeeded where maybe 0.5% others have also succeeded. Not ever experienced a broken heart, I often forget about how horrible it is described, and must be. It must be similar to what it is like to grieve for a friend that has died. Thank you pointing out my blessing.

@UnfoundWay ..The pain of losing the one you love is far more painful then when you lose a friend. when the woman you love die's or leaves you for another. it's like a part of you died. you fell an emptiness inside that can never be filled!!! .. I pray that you never feel this kind of pain!! and i pray that you have another 15yrs with your wife!!!! I lost my Love 5yrs ago!( she passed away ) but i know deep in my heart we'll be togther agin!

@Amybcb A friend of mine married his first everything also. Sadly, he died March. He was the first everything for his now widow also. My wife and I introduced them in 1992. He was my friend. She was my wife's, then girlfriend, friend. We parted ways, when my wife and I lost everything, even our telephone service. She reunited with us April, one month after her husband died. She made a tremendous effort to find us again. She visits us often, but she is only half a person now.
