first saw the holies live in 1977 at bradford university when i was 20. allans' microphone broke down! but he carried on regardless without a mike untill he got a replacement seen them live about 10 times live before allan clarke retired in 1999. memories that will never go away. I have all his solo albums, which demonstrate his great singing voice, but don't have the technical knowledge how to post them on you tube.
lincliff, you are so fortunate to have seen them in person! my fantasy! i am glad to hear you confirm how huge and popular they were, because i also read a
lot of comments that they are underrated. maybe it's just we americans who think if a band doesn't chart lots of #1's here, it doesn't matter that they are on top in the rest of the world! maybe the rrhof was shamefully slow, but the fans here LOVE the HOLLIES!
@Poopaloo55 Down girl, down, control yourself. I968, Wow! I remember this and the other big hits on the juke box at the same time. Barry Ryan, Eloise. Status Quo, Ice in the sun. Joe Dolan, make me an island. The beatles, hey jude/revolution. The Casuals, Jesamine. Even Mary Hopkin and those were the days. That's what the memory of a pretty girl can do for you.
@Poopaloo55 Met Allan a few years ago, poor man had a stinking cold but was still yummy! He was very sweet. Wanted to take him home & make him better!!
old songs are always my favorite!!!i hope that singers these days will play the same kind of music as old songs!!the way they perform and the outfit,as well,is great!!
i always listen to old songs and this group of band are amazing!!!
I can't believe people are saying they were underrated. They were massive and had loads of hits. People absolutely loved them. I saw them two or three times and the venue was full to bursting.

Brilliant harmony, and aren't they adorable? I may have said this before, but it must be repeated....Allan's a hottie....I can watch 2:00 over and over again!!!
@Poopaloo55 I knew you would comment on Allan again...:-) Though I think he looks much hotter singing I'm Alive - that song is just superb but this one stands strong, too.
Yeah, wonder what time it will be on Fuse. I have to work the entire day/night and can't take off, but want to see it real bad (RRHOF). I hope they have it so you can view it afterwards sometime later on still. I live nearby where it will all be. Wish I could go to see it in person, but can't : ) Oh well.
I cannot wait to see them on RRHOF....I'm so anxious to see who will show up,...I do truly hope it is Allan, Terry, Tony, Bernie and Bobby...my very favorite lineup!!! I was reading in the US the RRHOF show will be on March 15 on the FUSE cable network.
Yeah... I will always love the Hollies...they were so special in my life... Alan's voice took me higher and higher,,, oh those Brit Lads .. sure had what it takes...hmmm...tks.for taking me on this ride...from Budapest
@MegaRatpack i can play this still even now i was a lead guitarist of that period in an all around band, most of the The Beatles, The Hollies, the animals, rolling stones etc and soloist songs like songs of Brenda, jerry Vale lewis frank sinatra etc etc ( we have a female soloist an imitator great variable voice ) bands of the 60's until 75 was great those where the great years in music, i was 6 years old when i begun to use my fathers spanish guitar ,
@ceboym Wasn't it nice to have songs you could figure out and play lead guitar to. You could even you could even understand the words. Not at all like this junk and buzz saw music we got today. The bands even wore clothes that looked nice and didn't have 50 straight pins in their lips and ears. Those were the good old days of rock 'n roll.
