Tarp funds were necessary when they were first released. However, the next step Obama must take is to break up some of these companies that are "too big to fail". Then he must regulate service companies like insurance companies, mortgage companies, the medical professions, drug companies & others. They should be treated like the utility companies and regulated. They should be allowed to make a reasonable profit in providing services, but must be stopped from ripping Americans off.
The 2008 meltdown could have been totally prevented, but in 1998 Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan, Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, and lacky Larry Summers conspired to prevent proper regulation of Wall Street, banks, and the derivative market.
Brooksley Born, head of the CFTC, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, specifically WARNED of the coming disaster and tried to impose regulations but was stopped by the three stooges.

Barney Frank is the clearest-speaking, intelligent congressperson that I've ever heard, especially considering teh speed at which he speaks-good job!
And anyone who brings up his orientation- Gawd, to hell with them.

@garthggarth That's the problem with Franks' backers--they seem to think that because he's quick with an answer, he must be right.
