  • Спасибо!

  • Great and excellent animation!

  • Отлично!

  • T^T Beautiful. But also depressing, kinda. C'est la vie

  • Cow is sad :(

  • What i truly in love with Russian animation ,it's about real human expression of love, hate, loss, betrayed, friendship, happiness, loneliness and sacrifice.

  • Original and unique. Nom. for 1989 oscar for short anime

  • when shitty intelegents from city started to make cartoons about farmers life, than when it vent to hell with soviets and russians

  • Wow it's like a painting come to life.

  • What an incredibly beautiful work of art and moving story! The light is so amazing in the dark! Absolutely lovely!

  • Cool

  • AMAAAAZZZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's talent and patience that are greatly used in this film ,beautiful

  • this is amazing.

when u see wood being drawn like in this one, u know the makers are in touch with the soul of man and nature.

  • A beautiful film.

  • I only just now noticed there's Shostakovich being used towards the end.

  • ....тепла словенский, русский душой(the warmth of the Slavic , Russian soul)...

  • art

  • Надо же, я только вчера эту историю вспоминал, думал, хорошо бы экранизировать, а она оказывается уже экранизирована.

  • fantastic piece of work..somehow deep within i felt low,we humans have been cruel to everyone who gives us unconditioanally....easter european animators are really fantastic and surely needs recognition all over.

  • I wish to tell that it not Russian reality. It is mysticism of Russian past, this delusion and depression. It is in a shower of the Russian person, is an image of one party of Russian feeling. Do not think of Russian on this film, we very cheerful. )

  • did you watch the film? this beautiful film is beyond thinking a country's people are one thing or another. petrov and norstein make films about the entire world...the entire universe!

  • "Потому что во многой мудрости много печали; и кто умножает познания, умножает скорбь"

"For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow."

Хотя я предпочитаю поэтическую формулировку - "во многой мудрости есть многая печаль".

  • no words...., Thank you. Obrigado.

  • Imagine the pain it would have been to find this before Internet.. I love Youtube.

  • Stunning the final words of the child so haunting.

  • Exactly my thoughts...

Thanks for uploading this beautiful story.

  • amazing

  • Maravilloso!!

  • Wspaniale oddany klimat opowieści. Wydaje się, że animacja jest bardziej realistyczna niż mógłby być film.

  • thank you very mouch for uploading this...great...

  • it's touching. yeah...russian producers do need recognition (coz i watched some eastern-european movie trailers here too).

  • fantastic

  • Mind-blowingly beautiful...i simply couldn't stop my tears.

Alexandr Petrov is truly a genius!

  • Russian animators need more recognician.

  • yeah. They are extremely talent with their media and storytelling.

  • It moves to tears...great

    хочется плакать...гениально.

  • cartoon painting is done by fingers

  • crazy youtube )))

  • There's this Russian carton I'm trying to find featuring a cow that drinks gasoline, I think. It's a criticism of pollution, from what I remember, and her owner has to use a gas mask around her. I don't know it's been years. Can anyone help me out?

  • watch?v=uR6Q5ANs9dM

  • strange, im trying to reply to you but I can not insert link to my comment... you can find a link above

  • @PluckyRagdoll "Это совсем не про это"

  • beautiful.

    bravo.

  • Genius! amazing technique, so moving and beautiful.

  • is there a dvd or higher quality copy of this film anywhere?

  • A masterpiece on many many levels, art, craft, plot, universalization, music, message, and so on.

Thank you for posting this video, my hope others will enjoy it as much as I did.

  • This is my all-time favorite animation ever. YouTube quality simply does not do it justice. Beautiful.

  • omGGGGG OMG AWESOME .... PETROVVVVVVVVVVVV you are the BEST DUDE is better than a movie ...really i like more than a movie GRATZ GRATZ GRATZ

  • Must have taken a lot of time and work to make. It's so beautiful.

  • Wow! great story, nice animation.

  • incredible sense of motion, no mentioning the techniques.

  • Piękne.Rosjanie są mistrzami.

  • beautiful.

    touching.

    thank you for sharing

  • i believe thats owver 6000 individual paintings

  • Extraordinary, touching, how symbolic....

Thank you for posting this magnificent art.

  • i've watched petrov's four short films in istanbul film festival. except the old man and the sea, the other three films were russian both in language and in sense. no wonder why the non russian old man and the sea has been awarded with oscar. to me, korova and the dream of a ridiculous man are artistically priceless.

i am wondering if anyone knows the music played in the dream sequence of the kid in this animation(the cow). the music beginning at 7:10.

  • I don't know the exact piece, but that's typical eastern orthodox choral music.

  • It is the most complicated subject in Petrov's cartoons. I value it more than his sweet love stories. It is more graphic than painting.

I can't believe that my people in a rich country like my Russia lived and continue to live in a poverty with a shrinked mind.

  • sad but very beautiful*****

    thanks a lot for posting-

  • Russian soul is portrayed beautifully.

  • add to playlist*******

    thanks for sharing!!!

  • feel so sadly... This is our Life...

  • pörfect

  • this is beautiful and sad! but it's a great

    work!

  • Beautiful and sad.

  • If only the beautiful and profound Platonov's writing style could be translated properly to English!..

His words illuminate reader's inmost parts of mind, and a feeling of defencelessness, admiration, solitude and freedom evolves. Platonov's peculiar wordwork lets one see common concepts under an absolutely different angle, freshly, through the eyes of a child.

The subtitles are hopelessly dull =(

  • Sorry, nothing I can do now. :(

If you want, you can make a better translation and upload another copy of the film to Youtube.

Which particular phrases did you not like?

  • neithere- I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT.

I feel the subtitles ARE BEAUTIFULLY SIMPLE and worked VERY WELL.

THEY EFFECTED ME very strongly with their child-like honesty + clarity. This whole animation is so perfect I felt like crying. And THAT WAS BEFORE I knew they'd klled her son!

    THANK YOU Niffiwan.

  • my last name is petrov omfg.!

  • LOVED IT!

  • Una bella pieza de animacion, hecha por uno de los mejores animadores que existen, una muestra que consta que es una muestra de ARTE increible, pero poco difundida en el mundo

  • Didn't Petrov finally win an Oscar in 2000?

  • Yes, for "The Old Man and the Sea". A lot of his colleagues in Russia (people like Yuriy Norshteyn, Ivan Maximov, and so on) actually think that this film is superior, though. Perhaps the main difference was that "Sea" was produced in Canada, had an English soundtrack, and was adapted from an English writer. Presumably something like this wasn't as culturally close to the Academy jury.

  • I personally think this one is more meaningful then "The Old Man and the Sea".

  • @Niffiwan Hemingway was actually American, but I know exactly what you mean.

  • @hagonyourface I know... I meant language, not nationality. :)

  • petrov é o melhor animador q existe, putz grilla....esse é phoda!!!!!

  • Thank you for putting this film online :) I saw it years ago and it is as beautiful as it was in my memories.

  • I really like the effect of the paint on glass method. Nice ending too. Great video, thanks.
