  • This was about 1978. I was at a taping of the Jubilee in Nashville when this particular group of Statesmen was on the show (not sure if it was this taping.) I remember them doing "I want to Know." The Hinsons and the Hopper Brothers and Connie were also on that show.

  • There is another song with a similar title, Wait til You See My New Home. I have the music to it but haven't heard the Statesmen sing it in nearly 40 years.

  • This is FANTASTIC! Did you ever hear Hovie preach? He preached just like he sang, with everything he had.

  • this was one of my mom's favorite. wish I had known it was on here a year ago. I use to play it by Jesse Dixon for her @ the nursing home and she enjoyed it. I know she would have loved this version too as Jake and Hovie were some of her favorites too. Thanks for sharing this.

  • where's the bass?

  • This is when they were singing as a trio

  • I've heard people talk about it, and after hearing it, i can see why. nice!

  • HA! thats my dad and grandfather!! how awesome is this video!! Thanks so much for the memories!! i can't wait to show my dad!!

  • Your Grandfather was such a great singer, and I just love his voice and personality. When I was younger I tried to sing like your grandfather listening to old Statesman and Imperial lp's of my dad's. I matured with a deep baraton/bass voice instead of soundling like Jake Hess I sound like Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Rosie and Hovie Lister added to the group made it even better. Hovie was a sport model, his niece llived near my hometown of Americus.

  • Rosie could just sing

  • Dean, this is a great video. Hovie was a great singer, one of my favorite, he always put his all into a song. Great Job. Keep it up Dean. Thanks, Gerald

  • Dean, This is awesome. Thanks for sharing this. Without the videos that you and others are sharing the younger generation would not be able to see how great these classic groups were.

  • Just trying to be a blessing! LOL!

  • Derrell isn't quite as mean to the piano as Hovie is he? :-)

  • Great song!

  • Great Dean just a real great classic 5***** thank you .

  • Is Chris one of Jake's many brothers?

  • Chris is Jake's son.

  • I absolutely loved this...no, it isn't the lineup I'm used to but this was awesome! Hovie was gettin into it!!

    Thanks Dean!!

  • Wow! Now that was cool. But what's up with Chris Hess and no bass? Can you elaborate Dean?

  • This was after Chief's death and Statesmen had "retired". Hovie, Jake, Doy & Rosie did a few concerts - sort of special events and decided to restart the Statesmen. Chris replaced Doy (and that's another story unto itself).

  • We'd like to hear that story too then! Thanks Dean.

  • It's an unfortunate story in many ways.

  • By the way, were there any videos of the restart group that included Doy? I know that they actually had a promo shot wearing the same suits as the video you have posted.

  • I don't think it right to go any further without a special nod to Derrell Stewart, for some great playing, and Les Beasley, for some mighty fine singing and for this classic showcase to host these unforgettable performances. Thanks a heap for this one, Dean.

  • Good sound, but it's not the Statesman sound without Doy....and Chief.

  • gotta agree

  • Excelente video hermano gracias por compartirlo
