@jessejohnneedles10 Kuwait is still producing more than it's quota from OPEC, so just because it's spending a few million dollars, pocket change for a oil rich country, on exploration means nothing. Plus Canada has 100 years left of reserves in oil so no worry.

As a former Russian officer you amerikansky has forgotten the energy history of WW II. During that time, Europe practically and successfully used wood gasifiers to run their millions of trucks and cars throughout the war years. Coal was successfully converted to oil by the Karrick process we Russians copied and improved successfully while drilling for abiotic oil and gas. Scare tactics again you amerikansky are doing to the world which we Russians do not like.

you need to watch a video on exponential growth. an increase of 10% usage, or growth a year doubles every 7 years (compounding) exponential growth only takes a few generations to become incredibly massive. 10 multiplied 10 times is 10,000,000,000, economic growth @ 7% for 20 years for 3 billion people = armaggedon for cheap energy and cheap resources.

Tar sands will help Canada a little bit, but they're a drop in the bucket for the rest of the world. It should also be noted that the oil industry's most OPTIMISTIC forecast only sees the tar sand production rate going to 4 million barrels per day by 2020. That's more then 10 years away and it still will produce barely 5% of the world's energy needs right NOW much less be able to keep pace with global oil demand increasing by at least 2% per year.

Bullshit on your claim that Alberta can solve our energy crisis. Heavy Tar sands are ridiculously difficult and expensive to extract, the EROIE (A phrase you need to look up) BARELY makes it worth it. Above all what matters is EXTRACTION rate. Despite HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars thrown at the tar sands in recent years, we havn't gotten it to produce anymore then 1 million barrels per day. The world needs more then 85 million barrels per day to even maintain its existing rate of consumption.

There are 2bn barrels of oil in the ground (ASPO) 1bn has been taken out we use 80m a day - u do the math. Yes Tar sands become Economic when gasoline is $100 a gallon - but I think you may find other problems at that rate.

LOL. The remaining 1 trillion is tiny if that number is correct at all. 1 trillion is 1,000,000 million barrels. Say the rate of demand remains the current 86 million barrels/day, that is about 32 years of supply. But the rate of demand keeps increasing per year, while the rate of extraction keeps falling per year due to geology and other production related issues. The point is Peak Oil is right around the corner.

I have spent far too much time learning about PO. I am 100% sure that the 400 year figure that you have cited is commonly published figure but it is very a misleading one. I know about coal-to-liquid technologies and the companies that can build them. But is the USA building enough capacities now? The sorry truth is no. Coal can be converted to petroleum, the coal to oil process is called Gasification..Look it up if you doubt me. Peak oil is an urban myth...America has a 400 year supply of coal. And 32 years is a long time, Hydrogen, electics, who knows snythetic gasoline in 10 years..There is so much money to be made someone or a company like Dupont will solve the problem by the time we need it in 100 years or so when we run out....

Yeah. I have read in the Sunday Telegraph reports that demand will increase to 120 million barrels a day when China and India economys really get going, and that oil will get to $138 a barrel. I'm just waiting for all the fun to start as the reality hits all the sheep, the main stream media, and the politicians. Sorry, stihlman37 seems uninformed: there is no free energy from water, and it will always require more energy to create hydrogen than you can get out of it. For some reason the hydrogen energy advocates claim it is the energy transportation method of the future. Its big advantage is clean burning, but it is highly explosive, and not particularly dense. It may work, and mabye not. But it DOES NOT create energy from water!
