  • jd sumner is like the king, sitting, when another is standing, haha

  • I love this song with all my heart! God has blessed these boys for certain!

  • the king is gone

  • @926doty I know. I'm sad. Loved the guy.

  • oh bummer i thought this was j.d sumner and the CRAMPS!!!

  • elvis e jd sumer è demais,o encontro musical que fez estoria na musica.

  • elvis e jd sumer è demais

  • Does anyone know what note J.D. Sumner sings at the end of this song?....

  • @red3005 About a Z minus?

  • @red3005 that was an F1 that he hit at the end

  • JD set the standard by which all other bass singers will be judged just like Rosie Rozelle set the standard for Tenors. The cool thing about JD is he adapted to the style of quartet singing that happening at that particular time with out letting go of his roots. Tim is an awesome bass singer. Two different styles. Pull some JD videos from back in the 70's when he was healthy and you will sing a different tune.

  • Tim Riley is honestly better. He can actually sing low with POWER. Not back off like this guy.

  • @mistertitanic You can judge off of one performance. Was Tim Riley Elvis' bass singer? He must not be as good then. Just Elvis and JD alone put on an amazing show. You really should think more before putting a stupid comment.

  • @vipor3D I'm saying that because whenever I read comments about J.D, I hear "LOWEST VOICE EVER! NO ONE ELSE COMES CLOSE TO HIS GREATNESS"!! I've listened to J.D. before. And, I'm not quite understaning what you mean with your comment, please retype it.

  • @mistertitanic JD Sumner really does have the lowest voice in history! JD Sumner was Elvis' bass singer throughout the 70s up until 77 when Elvis died. It just goes to show that the greatest all around singer of all time has the greatest bass singer of all time in his backup. Tim Riley could sing for anyone and couldn't meet those credentials or voice!

  • @vipor3D I really think Tim is lower. J.D. struggles to hit those notes, and he nearly whispers them. Like I said before, TIm sings his low notes with power. Listen to this video:

    /watch?v=6WsUO6M6SrY

  • @mistertitanic You must really not listen to JD much. He can hit those low notes with ease and I've heard him hit them very loud on multiple occasions!

  • @vipor3D If that's the case, why do I never ever hear him sing like that? Wheneverhe sings low, the rest of the group has to quiet down just so you can hear him!

  • @mistertitanic That's just kinda his style. But JD worked alot with an elvis tribute artist named Eddie Miles throughout the 90s and I've met Eddie many times and those personal experiences help explain a lot more. Most of his performances with eddie weren't recorded, but he really did hit those low notes.

  • elvis was a fan od jd sumner

  • How dare you. JD Sumner was a legend. You should be so blessed to live half the life he lived. RolyRJ

  • Lead singer sounds like a strangled cat

  • @RolyRJ and you are a queer tit,ha ha ha ha.

  • saw this group in person....they shook the walls at the Tioga H.S. auditorium!

  • JD summer will always be the best lowest bass singer ever.

  • I saw him in person at the Shrine temple in Chicago and he went 5 notes lower than the piano!!!!!

  • 4ever Jesus, he`s my Lord & my savior.

  • For 30 years, and this isn't a competition, but - for 30 years the Gaither Vocal Band has been chasing these men and they still haven't caught up. They'll all have fun in God's company and that will be truly beautiful harmony.

  • In my book Jd Sumner is the greatest bas singer of all time. It stinks that like so many others we do not have him around any more. I am just amazed that he can match the lowest note on the piano exactly! That is amazing!

  • seen them last week at Newcastle arena on Elvis`s show, They sung sweet sweet spirit. they had to sing it 2 times because of tech error with mics they were exellent.

  • Very great gospelsong...:o)

  • AWESOME!

  • Rick makes his home here in Greeneville and has sung at our church!

  • he always looked good in that yellow suit. JD is awesome

  • Great Job!!! beautiful gospel number. i love doing this song, check it out and let me know what you think i would apreciate it

    Larry

  • great dj sumner

  • that song makes me think a little have waited for this peace... That makes me happy

  • Love to hear his songs, always makes you feel his music. Elvis tought very highly of him

  • Loved this old bass man....James said he would never live long enough to be as old as he looked already!

  • I agree never anothe J.D, or another Elvis. I also feel they were very close.

  • great great great, i am from Thailand. A Thai, i like this song

  • loved watching this, Elvis would of loved it, RIP

  • maybe God is trying to tell you something by recommending this to you

  • Yes, God Bless the Man. Elvis had a great hear for music. And Elvis always admired him for his LOW voice. He had always wanted to be a bass singer. But, in any event. God brought the two together as they both had that gift of singing.

God Bless them! There will never be another J.D. or another Elvis.

  • What year was this?

  • Elvis loved to sing with him.

  • In the summer of '93 I opened for JD and the Stamps when they appeared at the Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth NJ. It was an honor I'll treasure always...

  • is there anyone that know how old JD Sumner is on this clip?

  • I'd venture to say he was 73. I know he looked the same in the Atlanta Homecoming videos produced by the Gaithers, and that was shortly before he died. He died in November 1998, just a few days short of his 74th birthday.

  • okay...thanks, stormyeyedbear.

  • I'd say his voice and age were on opposite extremes on the spectrum of low and high.

  • Not really, but he was 73 when he died...I would think this one was in 1997.

  • No one was lower than JD or ever will be no matter who claims that they can sing that low.

  • Very well said,JD was the best base singer & always will be.God bless JD.

  • @fosterf6 Definitely! Youtuber thebassmanadam has a clip of J.D. sliding down about a full step off the bottom of the piano in full voice! Sure, Paul David Kennamer can do it too, but as far as sound quality goes at that low of a note, J.D. cannot be beat. And I personally think that the records for the lowest notes now were done using vocal fry (instead of full voice). They shouldn't count that if you ask me.

  • @fosterf6 I forgot what song it was, JD was singing background to an Elvis song, JD's voice really got deep, much deeper than he was in this song.

  • Storms is good, BUT my favorite is George Younce. When JD's wife died George sang at her funeral. I love the bass singers.

Red Foley did a heck of a version of this song several years ago

  • doggone you boy, doggone if you have not blessed our soul with this beauty of a recording. I am blessed by you sharing and owe you a debt that I cannot repay. The man is on this video doing his thing...the immortal J.D.Sumner

  • o ma bad. is he second then?

  • waaatttt benwrong46???? all the bass fellas do that in the Gaither shows. watch tim duncan from EH&SS, watch Gaither Himself do it, its soo low, and your sharing the stage monitors with everyone...

  • Cupping the ear to be able to hear the notes was a trademark of JD's stage performance.

  • heh, seems like the only thing he had trouble with was his chair in the beginning, amazing how he could sing just as well in his old age, he glissed down to that pedal F at then end like nothing

  • Classic stuff, brings back memories . . . I'd swear he actually overshoots that last glissando low note, producing a nice psychoacoustic effect that doesn't really sound out-of tune but rather authoritatively intentional.

  • JD didn't look like he was feeling well. But he did a great job still!

  • That would be true. I know I read that he did that as a matter of habit, to shoot slightly lower and come up to the correct pitch.

  • he holds the world record for the lowest note hit

  • No, Tim Storms currently has the record with 8hertz (about two octaves below the pianos lowest note).

  • tim storms breathes his notes, JD sings them... I respect JD's notes a hell of a lot more than Tim Storms... although, I can't do what tim storms does, so I'm not dissing him. I just think the real record should belong to JD

  • In memory of JD Sumner! The greatest Bass-Singer ever!

  • Does anybody know where this performance was done at? It looks so familiar, the set.

  • I believe in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium.

  • @BeTrueAlways

    from americas funniest home videos

  • JD Sumner the best bass singer that ever was, is and will be.

  • in memory of elvis!

  • WOW!!!

  • Thanks Adkinsda.

  • Thanks Dean.

  • Thank you once again. I hope to see more of these great vidoes.

  • Dean you're the best!! You can put a smile on my face like no one else!! This is my favorite "line-up" of my favorite quartet!!!!!

    Thanks a million!!!!
