  • Did the Tokens back Neil up on this song?

  • I love this song !

  • Lovely song! Yes, there's a boy on my diary... Needless to mention his name.

  • a nice slower version with the reiterating piano so popular of the 50's, and great sexy saxophone work too.

  • Never heard this version before. It's great. Thanks for posting.

  • A very popular song by Neil Sedaka in the 1950s. Thanks for sharing.

  • I didn't know the sax version of "The Diary". A little slower than the known one. It's pretty good, too. I guess a few people here in Brazil know that. Thanks for post it.

  • ahhhh, This is as good, if not better than the one they finally let out.

    thanks,

    ken

  • Thanks so much!!! Would never have heard of this if not for you!!!............A TERRIFIC posting......This is what it's all about!!!....btw, where do I learn how to upload???

  • You're welcome. As for how to upload, I sent some info to your message box.

  • new for me,simply beautiful

  • Please keep us posted.

  • This is a very interesting mix, esp with the sax being such a sexy instrument. I like it!! Please don't remove it! Thanks for this great, innovative post!

  • Got no plans to remove it, unless the YouTube police has other ideas. Thanks for your comments!

  • youtube police hahaha so true!!!!!!!!!

  • GREAT SONG THANK U*****

  • You're very welcome!

  • Love this , I just got the chills when Neil

goes up at the end of the song, that higher

register gets me every time. Thanks soo

    much, just great...

    Best, Marcie B.

  • I had read that Neil recored The Diary because he hated the version by Little Anthony & The Imperials. I agree, I have his version and the Imperials version and theirs was terrible..it had no melody...love Neil's!

  • That's possible, although Neil's was, I think, the first released version in 1958. I show Little Anthony's version being released on the End label the following year;, in 1959. But thanks much for visiting my channel and commenting, I appreciate it.

  • Neil said Little Anthony and the Imperials "ruined my song." He wrote it for them, and they recorded it before he did, but it was not released as a single. After Neil had a hit with it, they may have stuck it on a '"B" side. I know I never heard their version back in the day. It was not a hit in the NYC market, at least.

  • One of my fave Sedaka songs. As you say, interesting but they got it right in the end! Just shows how much thought and work went into recording in those days.

  • Also interesting is that this song iseems to be in a different style than most of his future hits; i.e., it has none of the musical "hooks" (shooby dooby dum dum, etc.) that he would later become famous for. Thanks for commenting!

  • So where did get a copy of this alternate version of Neil Sedaka's "The Diary"?

Is it available on the net? or cd?

  • I love these alternative versions. In this case I think the producers chose the right version to release.

  • I agree with you on that, my friend. Although this version is "interesting", I much prefer the released one. Thanks for commenting.
