    diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie

  • @WeWillNotRockYou1 I read your comment and busted out laughing. Thats a good 1. I got it pictured in my head some dude sitting at his computer about half bored going.......Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie !!!!!!!

  • Smooth and loud just like it should be.

  • The D3 was a great airplane to fly from what pilots recorded and she was beautiful as well. Thanks.

  • Wow, awesome power!

  • Super

  • I salute those of you, buiding these amazing pieces of history for us to see and wonder how brave those first airmen were. Thanks and Cheers.

  • Super rich at low revs. Is the mixture control inneffective at idle?

  • These were fine planes! i like how the ailerons stick out slightly. It's funny that the main beam of the wing is further back than 1/3 width--probably CG spot?

  • Maravilla que avion de 1 guerrra

  • This aircraft is extremely accurate to the smallest detail. Great to see that such craftsmanship and skill exist. It looks like it is ready to roll off of the factory floor right to Flik 51j! Benno Fiala Ritter von Fernbrugg, Istvan Fejes, Eugen Bönsch, usw. would be happy to see this aircraft from their squadron!

  • Lovely stuff Koloman!

  • Koloman's second Albatros D.III (Oef) of the series 253 also had fitted an original Austro-Daimler engine but it stands under "protection of historical monuments" and therefore this motor never will run.

  • Awesome !!!

  • pfau tolle kiste !!!

  • Lips Inc and Funky Town

  • ¿160 P.S. Mercedes?.

  • @raulox71

  • why is there a star of david on it?

  • @OrCkHaNtheGrEaT

This is the personal marking of the pilot.

  • @OrCkHaNtheGrEaT | You asked "why is there a star of David on it?"

The fighter squadron Flik 51j (Fliegerkompanie 51j (j=jagd or "pursuit squadron") or what we now call "fighter squadron" used the six-pointed star as their unit marking. Each pilot had the same geometric star shape, but with different design. This was one of the the variations. It didn't have to do with religious reasons, but was an attractive design.

  • This is a replica of the oeffag albatros d III with a original austrodaimler ad 6 engine from 1917 or 1918 i think. a great part of the austrian aviation. thank you for postin and building this plane

  • Is this a replica or original? Electric start (not that I blame you)? Either way, most impressive. Engine sounds wonderful. The inline 6 made the planes look so sleeker than their rotary counterparts. Plus that 6 cylinder sound. I have never seen this untill now. Well done.

  • @kolbpilot

It is a replica ..... exactly built after the original plans.

  • @kolbpilot : It is not electric start, but rather "compression" started. There is also a hand-cranked magneto to help generate the spark. It is all original and not a modern add on. The Germans and Austro-Hungarians utilized this method in the Mercedes, Argus, BMW, Austro-Daimler, and other inline engine designs. The allies did not and so you see more photos or films of them "hand propping" their engines to start them. Rotary engines were another matter... all of these had to be hand started.

  • @AviatikD1 Very interesting. Still, a remote way of starting the engine. I'm sure the ground crews of the time loved it. Funny how times change. Gunther Rall said he was impressed with the electric start on the Americans captured fighters, compared to the archaic hand crank of the 109s. I'll bet that was fun on the Eastern front.

  • Thanks Matthais! Whats that music in the background? It isn't Beethoven :).

Looking to seeing and hearing more!

  • Extra. albatros in SCHNEIDEMÜHL ? (Piła POLAND)

  • without a doubt the finest looking aircraft of ww1- thanks for bringing one to life for us. just wish I had one of my own. or at least could touch yours (aircraft that is)

  • Thaks for video - Kolossal!

  • Sorry, some people complained about the video quality and shots.. it was done with my Canon ixus photo camera, so i apologize for the bad quality and my worse camera hand.... Matthias.

  • @yakhiasi -- dude, you photographed one of the most graceful aerocraft ever, no apologies needed.

  • Koloman, thank you so much for sharing your progress. Really enjoying your build, and this really is special.
