  • What is story of Dave Davies not being in this video?

  • seriously .. the kinks ..

  • It's called Destroya.

  • How could Ray miss the beat in his own song? Poor Ray! So Kinks...

  • Mick looks sexy in pink.

  • @SidTheLoveRat Mick wearing a pink jacket! Man, you knew it was the 80's...

  • its a new game- WHERES DAVE?

  • i HATE FAKES BUT THE SONG ROCKS.

  • Awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of guitar is Ray playing? it's awesome

  • @LzrdKng9000 its an GIBSON VICTORY !!!

  • @MrCCRFan I think Ray is about the only guitarists I've seen playing a Victory. I've seen a couple bassists (one of them John Wetton) using a the Victory model bass, but other than Ray, I can't remember seeing anyone use one of the guitar models.

  • @Kohntarkosz its also hard to hear his guitar cos daves is often much louder.

  • 0:00 steve carell

  • love that Aria Bass... the Bass to have in the 80's that and the Steinberger one heavy and the other not so much..

  • Awesome shit!

  • sounds like all day and all of the night but mentions lola----i saw them around the time this came out, they were awesome :)

  • Ray kinda has a MIck Jagger vibe going on! O.o

  • wheres his bro on the lead?

  • Brutal 80s.

  • Where's Dave?

  • where is the other brother did they fight again?

  • Killer rock! They should have been moshing to his one.

  • Why is the crowd so dead and lifeless. I'd totally be rocking out. This song is great!!

  • Where the hell is Dave?

  • they are totally not playing that. It's a recording. Just watch the drummer and listen for the crash cymbals.

  • This song was released in 1981 ... just sayin'. : )

  • @kywildcat37 - This riff came from "All Day and All of the Night" which The Kinks released in 1964. The Doors didn't even exist then...just sayin'.

  • @ Alexander -- Ditto that. I can't believe they'd not be bopping to the infectious beat. They were almost motionless; as if they were listening to a college professor drone on and on...

  • Dave Davies is not only a wailing guitar player... he also is infused with the powers of invisibility! Awesome!

  • A KILLER tour...it seemed late for the Kinks but Ray's writing just was hitting it's stride. And Dave smoked Eddie Van Halen's cover of his song.

  • Where the fuck is Dave Davies???

  • Comment removed

  • @doctorfuse007 Ray and Dave were probably fighting again. It's funny I am watching this video full screen and think to myself where's Dave. Close the full screen and the first comment I see is yours. LOL

  • @doctorfuse007 ray beat the fuck out himmmm

  • I'd love to be there, rocking my ass off

  • looks like if i was there i'd be the only one jumping around and screaming.....

  • stop hold on stay in control

  • AWESOME STUFF

  • anyone notice the absence of the great Dave Davies on lead...?

  • This song really shows the Kinks' versatility. Outstanding!

  • this is one of my all time favorites songs!!

  • this is one of my all time favorites songs!!

  • Ray Davies & The Kinks ROCK!

  • where is dave!? :S

  • Hello, I love you - Doors -.-'

  • @zibaldone3

This song is based on an old Kinks song called All Day And All Of The Night, released in 1964.

Hello I love You by The Doors came out after All Day And All Of The Night.

If anything, it is the Doors ripping off the Kinks, not the other way around!!!

  • @badgerfaye This song isn't based on any other song. Why would they base a song on a song of their own LMFAO.

  • @badgerfaye Actually if you read any biographies about the group you would see its based on LOLA not all day and all of the night

  • @badgerfaye *PSH!* Who'd these lads 'steal' it from in the frist place anyway? ha ha!

I like this one! It seems like it was built from years of the banter from vamping that riff that 'had' to be played at 'every' damned show they played from the skittle years up to this point where everything in their profession had gone from doo=-wop through psyche through disco and now into 'New Wave'. Really, y'all! I'm 42 years old, and I first nknew these cats as a 'New Wave' band, haha!

  • @badgerfaye Didn't Ray Davies actually sue The Doors? I seem to recall reading that The Doors all their royalties to Hello I Love You because of a lawsuit.

  • Love the Kinks but Im pretty sure he starts lip syncing

  • @yabeguns1ezu That or my version is this live one, also this song came out in 1981....

  • this is about the coke/drug scene using old lyrics as a hybrid

  • sorry un love this song, but where the fuck is dave?

  • i bet the drummer balls were wet he was sweating hardcore haha

  • @cluescrollvids you nasty! but you're funny.

  • @ladycoconutbutt haha :)

  • @bdjr2009, its all day and all of the night...Not Your really got me and Yes they did play some original stuff, like You Really Got Me.

  • You really got me - same song different lyrics - did they every play anything original

  • @bdjr2009 great question. the only way to verify if they had, in fact, ever played anything original would be to, i dunno, listen to one of their albums. just throwin' darts here. but how one could accomplish this is beyond the realm of speculation, let alone possibility. though there may be one way: listen to "this time tomorrow." come back here and tell me it doesn't sound EXACTLY like the bridge from "acute schizophrenia paranoia blues"

  • @bdjr2009 What a fucking ridiculously ignorant and un informed comment based on just one song.

  • It's a made for tv thing einstine" Not the Paradise/Boston

  • Where's Dave ???

  • Must be in England... We just saw Ray last night at Royal Festival Hall and the crowd only got to its feet during the second encore. Amazing set. His voice is so strong...

  • I love the kinks, but im not the biggest fan of this song, although it does proves they could rock hard.

  • @jamaral81 you may not like this song but it does make a good point. City youth often falls through the cracks. There is far too much for them to get into and too many parents either working or too spaced out to know what their kids are doing. Deep thinking goes into a lot of the kinks music.

  • @ladycoconutbutt I agree, i guess its the hard rockin sound im not a fan of, altough Dave's guitar work is amazing in this. I do like some of there other hard rock stuff like all day and all of the night and Do it again.

  • alx ,yes crowde lame but so was song and 79

  • Yeah, where the hell is Dave? His guitar parts are there, but no sign of Dave...

  • Wheres Dave Davis? I can't see him anyhwhere throughout the video?

  • fantastic forefathers of punk

  • Eff the Beatles, this is it right here. I remember waiting for the radio to play this in Austin as a kid and we'd do extra acid if it played, which it always did. Good times when Destroyer came on. Perfect song.

  • are they really singing? doesnt sound like that

  • no spell check !!! :P

  • OH YEA FEELING THE Parania PART of this from HIGH SCHOOL AGAIN.. no doubt yo! LOL paranioa - will you destroy ya and it goes like this ( my lyrics) hey!

  • DOORS RIP OFF

  • @Koolkitties Care to explain?

  • @Koolkitties Actually, it's a KINKS "rip-off" of themselves. (The tune is an update of "All Day and All of the Night" released in 1964 and the lyrics are an update of "Lola" realeased in 1970.) This version does sound somewhat like the Doors, though... the album version and the single version really didn't, though...

  • @Koolkitties in the '60 the Doors ripped off the KINKS ;)

  • @valerock667 haha you fools. I have been playing you all like a boticcelli violin the whole time. I know quite welll that the kinks originated this bassline, I also knew that you would assume I didn't know that. Haha, foooools!

  • @Koolkitties I should have expected that you are a Kinks fan by the number of K in your nickname lol

  • and Dave Davies?

  • It made me a little paranoid this morning when I thought about this song and it came on after the next set of commercials.

  • @skyehoyt1971 Dave would be proud of you recognizing your psychic abilities! ;-)

  • @MsLithium21 Yep I am pretty good I also predicted the end of the world was not 5/21/11

    and I was right ***(/|\)***PeAcE

  • Where's Dave here?

  • I think that this is really from 1981...not that it matters all that much.

  • 2 people just self destroyed.

  • i just went to turn this up even more.. i forgot i already had it on blast lol

  • The crowd is too stoned to understand what they are seeing...

  • Great Song, The Kinks is a rock legend.

  • AHHH! THE KINKS!!! YESS!

  • soy to me gusta esta

  • I was the only one in my high school that had this album when it came out. This was the shit man! All the other dweebs were "ROCKIN" on Thriller!!!

  • Ray is rumored to be bipolar, this song is written about his struggles with it. Many bipolars are CREATIVE and eccentric!

  • this sounds so much like hello, i love you by the doors. .__.

  • @savagejayne Actually this sound like "All of the Day and All of the Night",by...

    The Kinks!

  • @metalrunas it does - but it still sounds great

  • Melvins doing a cover of Destroyer with Clem Burke on the THIRD set of DRUMS!!!

    Can't wait to hear that!!!!

  • this song came out in 1981...and where the fuck is dave?

  • Oops, at 2:12 Davies realizes he's a bit too early with play-backing the words "doctor, doctor" and starts clapping instead. But worse than that is the absence of Dave Davies. You could get away with things like that, in those days (I doubt whether anyone there even noticed), but it must have been part of all that Ray Davies despised in show-business.

  • shall i be the first to suggest a kinks biopic in which jason bateman plays ray?

  • I know this is a "duh" statement...BUT Ray Davies is THE MAN!!!!!

  • @chalklava Yeh..the 'Dale Earnhardt' of the British Invation Giants!

  • where is Dave Davies?

  • the crowd should be shot for being so lame...

  • @Alexandernero666

    really... argh!

  • @Alexandernero666 Must of been in Florida, we are pretty lame when it comes to getting into concerts. I think it has to do with Geritol and Depends.

  • @Alexandernero666 Considering it wasn't live... they were lip-synching.

  • Does anyone know if there is an MTV Video, or was this released before MTV type videos-???? I'm old as dirt, this song was a hit my first year in college

  • They were forerunners of the British pop music scene from the 60's. And then they joined the new wave music scene of the 80's. They scene that they had inspired 15 years before! I've never heard of any other band doing that. Joining the next music scene that they helped inspire. Seriously, who else has ever done that? The Kinks are simply the greatest.

  • Better overall quality version

  • She said, "man, there's really something wrong with you.

    One day you're gonna' self-destruct.

    You're up, you're down, I can't work you out

You get a good thing goin' then you blow yourself out."

Silly boy ya' self-destroyer. Silly boy ya' self-destroyer

  • 0:01 steve carrel?

  • @PoptartTheLeoGecko LMFAO!!

  • @PoptartTheLeoGecko Wouldn't that be so awesome, Steve carrel was secretly the drummer for the Kinks!

  • @PoptartTheLeoGecko lol, steve carrel, he KINDA looks like steve

  • Ends with a fade? WHAhhaaaa?!?! Anyway, I never hear this on the radio so it should never EVER get a thumbs down, I remember it like it was yesterday, 1982 I thought

  • @MetallicBill

Dude: You won't get a Thumbs down from me! This Song KICKS!

  • @Gabby9292K1 I didn't post it, but I concur!

  • @MetallicBill

    Thanks for the Back!

  • playback destroys my heart. </3

  • something worng in this video......

  • its sucks that he is lip syncing at the part where he goes "lola looked at me and said ohh you look so weird " if you watch he goes to say man in the mic but it still says ohh ha ha...great song though this kinda stuff revolutionized music.

  • wheres dave?

  • @Roxxy1987 , Dave's not here ! LMAO ! Sorry I could not resist.

  • dave is god at singing.....haha

  • I was also wondering where Dave was.

  • @marynightshade

I think he is adjusting the lighting in the background at 1:27

  • This song has a mix between "All Day and All of the Night" and "Hello, I Love You" from The Doors

  • wow wheres dave? watch this vid its lip symced NO LEAD GUITARIST !

  • Didn't this come out in 1981?

  • Ray messed up!Still kicked ass!

  • OMG...lipsynching his own stuff and blew it!!

  • I know a lot of bands lip synched at the time due to the fact something could happen to affect the performance. , but I hate watching people who are clearly not singing or playing. I have one other observation though. Where is Dave Davies?

  • there have been lots of comments about Hello I love you (especially on other vids for All Day and All of the Night), but Kinks preceded the Doors by many years with that

  • If someone has the Saturday Night Live version of this, please upload NOW!!!

  • Where is Dave? I hear a guitar soloing.

  • I don't think Ray does anything accidentally--I hear at least 3 song nods here, and probably more than I am familiar with or that i caught.

All day and all of the night

    Lola

    Paranoia

and yeah, there must have been a massive invisible energy barrier between the energy on stage and that lifeless audience!

  • @highroadnow yes, and a little bit of the style of "hello i love you" from the doors, don´t you think?

  • love this song, hate to see the peeps just sit there

  • @cheeseweaselmudbutt

With the exception of Ray's vocal, they're miming to the recorded version. I'd "just sit there" too.

  • @Fakename70 oh, lol i guess i didnt catch that, ty

  • Is there a heavy nod to All of the Day and All of the Night or did he unsubtly lift his own song?

  • I kind of think of these guys as one of the first real Punk Rock bands. What's so amazing about these guys...is that as long as they've been around....they've stayed true to their sound....most groups don't have the balls to do that. Right on!

  • Paranoiaaa the destroyeerrrr! Genius

  • Love it!!!

  • no Dave ??great tune!!

  • This is probably one of the worst lip-synch jobs I've seen in a while.

  • this is like my fucking anthem!

  • no dave?

  • Drummer on the ride cymbal when the sound is clearly that of a high hat...things that make you go hhhhmmmmm....

  • @winterspartyof5 i think he is opening and closing the hi-hat so thats why the hi hat sounds all the time..

  • Great pop tune all about extreme paranoia and basically loosing your shit.

  • Great Tune!!!!!

  • that´s great music!love it :)

  • real music

    no hard no sed....

  • good song too bad it wasnt a real live show. milli vanilli act. you see ray playing lead part time and at other times not at all.

  • @rigimp Lip synch yes. Milli Vanilli no. And for equating der Kinkens with those imposters you should eat glass and get the runs!

  • @ Emma -- Dave wuz prob. feelin cranky n dint wanna do this. they WERE notorious for HATING these lip-synchs.

  • I saw the Kinks during the Low Budget Tour, Loved it!! was a kick ass show!

  • Where was Dave when this video was filmed? Anyone know? Please reply if you have the info.

  • fuckin a frank...stan here.

  • @PRINCIPALBROKER -----A little strange, where is Dave????

  • @MegaRussellC82 thats what i was thinking

  • God save the KinKs, they are what rock & Roll is and was always meant to be all about " The Kinks, always were and always will be the greatest, most important and relevant rock & roll band of all time!

  • GREAT music, GREAT song. This one really puts awareness out there for all those dealing with mental disorders, whether personal or someone you know - so SAD!!

  • damn is it 1982,am i a freshman in high school, great song by the KINKS

  • haha love it :) and this must be the coolest studio ever ! :D

  • @BritishRulez right!

  • 1 - First of all this song was released in August 1981, not 1979.

2 - The song borrows the main riff from their own song "All Day and All of the Night". Not from The Doors.

3 - The lyrics are based on the song "Lola".

  • it REALLY REALLY sounds like "Hello I love you" by The Doors !!

  • legendary

  • BADD ASSS!!! This is one of thee best songs ever, and I've rarley had the opportunity to enjoy it since it' was on the radio in 1981. It's just so much fun to listen to; you can't hear it without getting happy!!! The video was defintely shot in '81, based on the outfits & stage design, which makes the whole experience even more fun!!!

  • I can hear Dave's guitar, but not see him

  • this song is 1981 not 1979

  • Love how he's playing the guitar at 2:40 with his hands in the air!

  • I have been looking for this song for 20 years. I listned to it when it came out and thought i must have made it up.

    thanks
