@bcopp: I can't stand Whitney, Mariah, or Christina. They could learn a lot from Aretha Franklin. She knows when to sing, when to belt, and when to be quiet. A lot of singers could learn from Rob Halford, David Coverdale, and others. You rarely hear a bad note out of any of them.

If her notes, as you state, were flat "once or twice," then she is not an "extremely in-tune" performer. I've re-watched the clip. Her vocal style is strained, too Broadway-espue, and this song was in a key too difficult for her to perform. My opinion is that she should learn proper intonation, pitch, and when and how to scream properly.
@codednine: You completely missed the content of my message. I don't watch Idol anymore because it is ALL cookie-cutter. Even the "surprises" that come along (country acts and "rockers") are completely cookie-cutter. Siobhan was no different. Siobhan tried to be Bohemian within the safe confines of top 40 and "indie". And I stand by my opinion on her scream. She overused it on too many songs and never executed them correctly (it's about pitch, not volume). Her performances were mediocre.
Siobhan should have been in the final if winning was based on talent and performances. During the Idol Summer Tour, I watched many of the Top 10 concerts and Siobhan's performances were just amazing, unique and WOWED many in the audience. She is an amazing performer, a unique artist and her "Paint It Black" end note is out of this world.
She's the only contestant I personally thought was close to Adam Lambert after season 8, her high notes are a lot more controlled and restrained like Adam and this performance just shows how much of a performer she is like Adam, unlike James Durbin, his high notes are everywhere and only 45 percent them are there, and with him it's the same performance every week.

I have such a girl crush on her! I knew she wouldn't win American Idol because she's not pre-packaged enough. AI wants a specific image for marketing purposes. The judges complained constantly that they "didn't know who she [was]". That basically means, "We can't categorize you." Realistically, she nailed every one of her songs, yet that wasn't good enough for the judges.
As for this song, she does such a fantastic job. Esp the way she ends it - the notes are so clear and beautiful.
@DevoBassGirl they have their fav's! last nite they criticized the country singer (can't remember name) for doing the same thing all the time basically,. but then they bashed Haley for "not knowing what kind of an artist she wants to be". so they send contradictions all the time but in the end, they have the one's they want! I have some hopes that some of the girls will be good this season (2011), but there is no one like Siobhan this season. I'm doubt anyone will come close either. Due to inside politics/pressure etc, the show tried to hold her back. She was growing so fast.. She's amazing. This year, will probably be dull, and the tweenies will likely elect their obligatory guy singer, who will probably look and sound a lot like the past 3 winners. Blah. I wish Siobhan could perform on idol again.

I have such a girl crush on her! I knew she wouldn't win American Idol because she's not pre-packaged enough. AI wants a specific image for marketing purposes. The judges complained constantly that they "didn't know who she [was]". That basically means, "We can't categorize you." Realistically, she nailed every one of her songs, yet that wasn't good enough for the judges.
As for this song, she does such a fantastic job. Esp the way she ends it - the notes are so clear and beautiful.

@DevoBassGirl they have their fav's! last nite they criticized the country singer (can't remember name) for doing the same thing all the time basically,. but then they bashed Haley for "not knowing what kind of an artist she wants to be". so they send contradictions all the time but in the end, they have the one's they want! Siobhan is pure magic. I am addicted to her!

Not even close, I appreciate more creative artists who are true to themselves and aren't afraid to be different even if that didn't gain them a huge crowd and big selling numbers.

@oso7jo7ro I agree. I prefer the artists who are edgier, and not afraid to be themselves. Its a lot better music than just club bangers and techno music. There's a lot more emotion to it than just "I'm gonna go out to the club drink lots and get laid." ;) Thats why I like artists like Siobhan because they're different, and don't sell out.

@LoLz01ful Um, well when they're on american idol I tend to have high expectations of them and it's just my personal opinion. I just wasn't in love with her voice, she was a knock off of Adam Lambert. So don't get all hurt about it haha. I do sing and I know my voice isn't as strong as hers but I honestly don't care. I have always loved Siobhan's quirkiness ....However, if she had stuck with this image with the hair and clothing I believe that by the nature of today's commercial music business she would had blown the rest of the competitors to kingdom come....Good Luck Siobhan with your future endeavors..

I have some hopes that some of the girls will be good this season (2011), but there is no one like Siobhan this season. I'm doubt anyone will come close either. Due to inside politics/pressure etc, the show tried to hold her back. She was growing so fast.. She's amazing. This year, will probably be dull, and the tweenies will likely elect their obligatory guy singer, who will probably look and sound a lot like the past 3 winners. Blah. I wish Siobhan could perform on idol again.

@trigerhapymonky1 well, Idol has actual artists now, that are sane, as well. but don't worry, our Sweet, Sexy Siobhan is doing well with Lunar Valve and I am sure will have solo success if she chooses that course. she has star power and is as original as I have ever seen on Idol, or most other places for that matter.
