China flooded the market for years with rare earths and when other mines closed because they could not compete, China started jacking with the prices. They know what they are doing and they think long term.
@anikinippon 100 times reserves found!! world supply scarcity just went out the window! this will fuel demand for like, 10,000 years! Basically forever!

worst case scenario, it caps the max prices china can charge which should fuel world growth almost exponentially
Such finds were known before but the low cost rare earth from China previously made it unnecessary to bother with ocean floor deposits. Just shows how cheaply the Chinese have been pricing their resources for the advance economies. But China has little option but to maintain the unfavourable terms of trade because its State enterprises put maximising jobs for social stability first.
"Rare" earth elements have NEVER been rare.. they are just incredibly dirty to refine, which is why the western world have left it to china to do the dirty work.. now china is saying fuck you, do it yourself mofos
I hate that resignation... "would take billions to extract it". If that's the case why not devote tens of millions in R&D to develop more efficient and cheap methods of extraction? It would give 1) short term economic benefits, 2) long-term benefits (deep ocean mining is the future) and 3) the desired REMs.
@Reqrezentin I know why does he do that? I'm subbed to all the news channels, i.e. AP, Reuters, ITNnews, CNN, CBS, etc... and this dude freaking always just rights his name as a comment. It's so weird!

Psalm 121:1-2 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
May the great grace of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ &
the peace of God be with the people of Japan.
Many people in America are praying for you.
May your eyes & hearts be opened to see that the answer is not in Buddha,
but in the Living God ~ the Creator of heaven & earth.
