Hillary News: the New Zealand Geographic Board is considering Naming a Mountain Ridge near Mt Cook after Sir Edmund. there is another submission to re-name Mt Olivier in Mount Cook National Park: Mt Olivier / Hillary as it was his inspirational first summit & also rename nearby Magellan Pk: Tenzing Norgay Peak to honour his co-party in his great achivement. However the Media is backing the Hillary Ridge Idea thus far.

As far as I know neither Hillary nor Tenzing ever acknowledged which of them was "first," regarding it as a team accomplishment. We should honor and respect that.

@ckallen23 Either way, they have achieved what no one would have the balls to do. They showed that just because your country is small and that most of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about it does not mean that it can acheive greatness. I live in the USA, and 99.999999999999% of people here never give a damn about NZ. I'd die to move to New Zealand.
