Im 16 and wanted a career in dentistry however this medical career is fascinating and the way in which you conduct yourself in your profession is fantastic :) we study patient care at college and this i use as a perfect example especially your episodes with younger children
@mattmmd Thanks for you compiments, much appreciated :) we have a number of posts on their way which deal mostly with simple patient interaction with children and babies so stay tuned. Good luck with your future too, regardless of what it ultimately is. If patient care is your focus already, you will do extremely well. Take care and thanks again, Dr Ian.
@chiroexcellence, I've been to a regular chiropractor twice and dont see a difference. how would a gonstead chiropractic help? I just want to be a normal 25 year old with no pain. i want to get back to being my old athletic self.
@afwon A Gonstead Chiropractor with good experience should be able to take care of your problem and get you back to your old activities. I would need to physically check you to give you an absolute opinion but disc injury is a Gonstead Chiropractor's specialty. Please check the Gonstead website for the specialist closest to you. Stay in touch and let me know now you go. If you can't find someone, let me know where you live and I'll try to find someone close to you. All the best, Dr Ian
@chiroexcellence, I have had low back pain since April 2011 but have no pain radiating down my leg. I can run around, lift weights (nothing serious) but the pain is still there (4/10) and its been that way since April. nothing debilitating but pain sucks whenever I sit or even jog for a little bit. my back muscles would get inflammed at times but it still hurts when its not inflammed. MRI shows a disc herniation on the L4/L5 and L5/S1. would a gonstead chiropractic lead to permanent fix?
@mgallant01 Wow, you've watched and commented on at least 3 of our posts, have a look at the rest with an open mind. You'll see the truth in them. All the best, Dr Ian.
Great to hear that you had such a good result. Gonstead chiropractic is well known for it's safety, specificity and effectiveness and removing nerve pressure. All the best, Dr Ian
I live in England and it seems that getting the doc to get an Xray on my back seems out of the question. I've had real bad pain for several months. Physio is not helping, painkillers and anti-inflammatorys can solve the problem. Are Docs persuaded more to give xrays in Austrailia?
@stratocaster1986able It depends on the Specialty that they practice. I am a Gonstead specialist and xrays are very important to screaning pathology and also to assess all the subtle indicators for biomechanical problems that are causing nerve pressure and dysfunction. There is a Gonstead practitioner in London. I will find his details and post them soon. 1 more thing tho, finding someone to order films won't be as hard as finding someone who can read them and fix your problem. Chat soon, Dr Ian
@stratocaster1986able I have spoke to my contacts and have found a Gonstead practitioner; Dr Jacobowski in Harley st, London. I do not personally know him but several of my associates refer patients to him and the head of Gonstead Australia did his internship there. Please let me know how you go. All the best in health and happiness, Ian.
@stratocaster1986able its easy in America, all you have to do is tell them and they will. too bad obama is a fan of socialist health care. thats why i love the usa!!!
Hi Thanks for this interesting video. I am a physiotherapist (don't worry I'm not a chiro basher) and find treating acute sciatic pain sometimes a bit hit and miss to be frank with sometimes very good results with manual therapy and sometimes no change at all and the odd time it can aggravate symptoms. I was interested to know if you ever re X Ray to see if your initial findings have changed? Cheers
@markbrennan1977 Hi Mark, good question. In short, yes we do occasionally re X-ray. In these cases it would be that some subsequent physical trauma has occurred, including difficult labour, the patient assessment no longer reflects the information from the images, or radical postural adaption has altered the picture. The films are only a 3D object squashed into 2D and they reflect a static image of a dynamic entity. The pathology is important but patient function is the driving factor. Dr Ian
Dr Lan, I have already sent you an e-mail with all my background history. THat was about 2 days ago, but I insist to follow and see if I can send you my x-rays so you can take a look at it and give me your diagnosis. this is my e-mail, Jeanislove1985@yahoo.com
thanks for your time and hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
Dr. please I need some sort of help, I have been trying to initiate a conversation with you, you have been gone a while. I am really struggling with this terrible pain it's a constant thing and can do very little things on my own, I need to go back to work as soon as possible as well. I will see an excellent chiropractor here in Peru but I hope you can be of a lot help to fix my problem, I got both legs with sciatica I'm afraid, how often do you travel to California?
@jeanlatorre18 I am sorry it seems that my reply did not post properly. My email is Ian@chiropracticexcellence.con.au You do need someone with an American license so I will try to find somebody for in California. Send me your email address and I will contact you soon. Good luck and best wishes, Dr Ian.
I only put hot water or hot tub when the pain is not tolerable, I hope you sympathize with my pain and try to help me gain the relief I have been seeking for years. I am sick of taking oral steroids or antiinflamatories they have ruined my liver, stomach so on. I came here to Peru , I was born here by the way but mainly because in california they were not focusing on the cause of the problem but only my symptoms, everything was temporary , is it OK if I e-mail you ?
Thank you so much for your response. I would like to tell you my story how it happened from day 1 until today, it's kind long but I want to give u all the details so you know what exactly to do for me, I am really tired and exausted of this terrible sciatic pain, back pain in the lumbar area is almost 0 , I have not much pain at all there. I will wait for you, I'm only here in Peru to get the physical therapy done, I live in California omg! Do you travel to USA often??? thank you!!!!!
Also this may be helpful for you to know more about my history, my protrusion is about 6 mm, don't know if that is worth telling you, and recently after 7 years I started having sciatica symptoms in my right leg now, currently with cortisone in my damage left leg so the pain has reduced a lot. Do I still have some hope? It's amazing what I seen what you do, and those patients are worse than mine, I can at least walk.
@jeanlatorre18 Yes I am sure that you can be helped. Of course, I haven't examined you or seen X-rays but your case is just like thousands of others that have been fixed by Gonstead Chiropractic. I don't know much about Chiropractic in Peru but I will try to find if there is someone in your country. Is it possible for you to travel? If there isn't anyone close to you may be you could fly to the USA? If you come to Australia for a holiday some time, come and visit me :-) good luck, Ian
Respond to this video... Also, I will email some collegue's in the USA and see if they know anything about Chiropractic in Peru. It might take me a few days. In the mean time DO NOT put any heat on your back for therapy and don't let anybody twist your spine to try to "crack" it. Put an ice pack on the part of your low back where the pain comes from for 15-20 mins each hour that you are able to and move as much as possible throughout the day. Walking is usually best.
Hello Dr. sorry but I don't find your name. This is my problem, I have been suffering with a protrusion disc in the l5-s1 location the last 7 years with no relieve whatsoever. I'm doing physical therapy where the are helping solve the cause of the problem, because I have sciatica and it's terrible pain. Do you think I may find permanent relieve with a chiropractor here in Peru? just like the way you do it with your patients? I'm 26 years old now , what do you suggest I should do? thanks!!!
@lastbil1972 hey there, thanks for you comments. No there was not much rotation in the sacral listing. The measurements were slightly greater on the left side of the sacrum but the subluxation was not in the left sacroiliac joint. The contact point was the 2nd sacral segment and the line of drive was P-A through the plane line of the disc. I hope this helps. Thanks again and take care,Ian.
Hi, great vid! It looked for me on the xray that sacrums listing was PL. Did you set it straight P-A ? . Otherwise I should have turned him on the other side eg for the pl sacrum contact/adjustment..
@zeno2712 This instrument was invented a long time ago to assist in finding the exact site of nerve irritation. We are always looking for nerve function disturbance. When spinal nerves are irritated the temperature of the skin on either side of the spine is affected and this temperature sensitive instrument detects this altered skin temperature. Today only Gonstead specialists use this. Thanks for your interest, Ian.
@chiroexcellence Thanks for that, Ian. I wasn't sure what it was measuring. When my lower back is sore, I don't feel any difference in temperature - just how sensitive is the device?
@zeno2712 The instrument is very sensitive to temperature differences in fractions of degree's. The skin temperature difference that we speak of is very subtle and the nerve pressure that we talk of is not always associated with pain, such as a sore back. The patient may have constipation, nausea, headache, a child may wet the bed or have ear infections; almost anything can be cause by spinal nerves being irritated. I hope that this helps. All the best, Ian
@chiroexcellence Fascinating! That's why I've never noticed - I'm sure I'd have noticed a few degrees difference, but maybe not a fraction of a degree. What sort of difference are we talking about? 0.5°C? 0.1°C?
@chiroexcellence Ah! I assumed it was some new hi-tech device. Do you mind me asking if nerve irritation causes one side of the spine to get hotter or both sides? I'm never aware of my back getting hotter, so how hot are we talking about here?
@zeno2712 Like I said, its fraction of degrees and the temperature is difficult to perceive with your hands but the instrument is very sensitive. The temperature on the side of nerve irritation can be increased or decreased depending on the problem. The side of heat is not the most important thing the most important factor is the actual level of temperature difference. Thanks, Ian.
@alanwu713 Hi Alan, Glad to hear you're on your way to becoming a specific, hands on Chiropractor. Not much kick because it's only job is to open the joint space to the exact amount to allow for the correction in the correct line of drive. Most of this is achieved in the set-up. This applies to all patients, but it is extra important when adjusting acute people. Thanks, Ian.
Haha you're on to us! Yes we did mute the audio for some of the adjustments early on because there was a creaky leg on that adjustment table which made a very loud and offputting noise. We're really very glad that you picked up on the detail in the analysis too, even though we removed much of the technical component . This is the essence of Gonstead Chiropractic. We're just getting started and we really want to help so any future feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chiropractic Excellence.
Excellent analysis. Usually chiro's just smash through the adjustment in like 5 minutes. You took x-rays and had a large analysis into his spine before manipulation. Great stuff. Although couldn't help but notice you muted the 'crack' noise! that's the best part!
