Jeff Beck is pretty good, for sure, but have you guys ever heard of Munky from the band KORN?? If not, check him out..he is awesome and can play with a seven string guitar and uses really cool downtunings. He is amazing!!! You will be blown away!! You are welcome!!
For those of us who were so knocked out the first time Beck hit the radio in the mid-60s, we know he was the guy who changed everything for modern guitar playing, just as his band the Yardbirds proved you could step well outside the boy-loves-girl approach to songs and forge a chart career ('Shapes of Things', 'Over Under Sideways Down', 'Happenings 10 Years Time Ago'). Just look at him here - shredding. He takes chances with every note. No hackneyed blues or widdly-widdly here. He's the man.
@thunderstick1968 Come on now! Let's have a little more respect for one of the most important foundations of hyper-amplified rock that even caught Jimi's attention! Jeff has some of the best guitar techs and roadies in the world and he sounds" out of tune" from your perspective because a lot of stuff he now executes in the use of the whammy bar--he is deliberately going for that sound. He may not be "perfect" by jazz and classical standards though they also sound atonal and "un-tuned" at will...
@pretorious700 Thanks again pretorious for standing up for one of the greatest modern/classic rockers of all times who we can thank in part for the development of thehyper-amplified analog/digital processed whammy guitar playing style we now take for granted...
@dljone9 You summerized it all in just a few words...Right on as one who followed him since first seeing him at the McCormick Place in Chicago with the Yardbirds...A few years later I saw Hendrix who took a lot of the hyper amplified guitar processing and exotic playing to an even higher level. Beck is remarkable to have had such a long and distiguished career in spite of not having a really steady lineup or top forty hit songs other than " People Get Ready" with Rod Stewart...
Very raw sound, but I know how he ACTUALLY sounds and he remains at the top of my list. Too bad Jimi didn't have more time to FULLY develop his talent and explore other realms of exotic music like Jeff. One gets a possible clue of other directions he may have gone in that had nothing to do with keeping up with top ten chart demands...
the thing tha differates jeff ,and i should say also vai, froma other guitarists is that the don't just play guitar or melodies and scales but they ''talk''!-that's my opinion
@dockaiser DO NOT underestimate Jeff as just a blues guitarist! Jeff can play ANY contemporary or traditional style so get a little deeper check out some of his other catalog other than his famous hits. Remember he was born in the Forties and as a reminder to you is one of the most important DNA and building blocks of all the classic power guitar rockers including Hendrix!
@pretorious700 Let's not split hairs over something we both agree about...It doesn't matter whether or not he is playing his style( which IS a blend many influences some of his own creation and the rest borrowed) or his version of other styles--he is normally sucessful coming up with the results. So there's nothing to disagree about
@UrantiaMansion What I mean is, he's one of the few guitarists so distinctive in style that you can recognize his playing by just a few notes in any song.

@pretorious700 Been gone for awhile, but right on pretorious on that clarification...I'm sure you heard by now his latest album and also the fact he actually had a serious accident in his kitchen chopping up vegetables (carrots) and chopping off a bit of his little finger. Can't tell of course in his playing, but the album aside from a few hot cuts is mostly down tempo (not the musical style) and quiet...
@potterboy33 woofers. for a while in the late 90s and early 2000s, a lot of dw endorsers had them in pics/ ads in md magazine. i guess it didnt take off cuz we dont see many now, do we? except bill ward, in case any know-it all trolls need to chastise me
I appreciate your opinion, but Beck has been playing since the 60's so I don't really think you can call him unoriginal. It also isnt easy to solo for minutes at a time but Jeff does it amazingly

id hate to sound like one of those guys who says " this is THE best thing EVER!" but those coool bends at the verse are ...well....THE BEST EVER! :D beck is mint!
I have had the privledge to see Beck during this time period and though the sound quality is rough of the video--this was one of the most exciting creative plateaus reached for a rock guitarist performer. When Jeff feel's it--he is on and has been doing so since the Yardbirds and laid down the foundation for what came later including the speed metal era...
@Jim7711154 As one of the few guitarists that actually saw him since the Yardbirds all the way thru the Jeff Beck Group, later the Jan Hammer lineup, all the way thru the present--I don't know other than the bias that white rockers sometimes have about not only non-white performers playing rock or even giving a commentary. I'm alright about though...let's stay in touch anyway.
BECK + BOZZIO : "The perfect pair" ? ;-)

Jeff called Bozzio perhaps the greatest drummer ever.........and Jeff Played with like 6 hall of famers

What makes Jeff such a genius, is his playing technique and his inventory style. The control of tone and sound
He does have some nice melodies outside the blues scales, but his solos are usually based on blues, that's true

@UrantiaMansion I would disagree, his strength is that he plays one 'style"-his own.
