  • I have worked with both Claire Moore and Rebecca Caine. Claire is such a talented lady, but Rebecca Caine is the more authentic soprano (with such a beautiful voice). I envy all of you who were lucky enough to see either Rebecca or Claire in the show!

  • @jchurch1 Rebecca Caine to date is the BEST Christine I have ever seen live and I have seen a dozen of them. Caine was my first Christine (Toronto 1990) & to date no one has been able to steal that crown away from her. My sis & father also share this sentiment as her performance left a deep impression on them too as every Christine we have seen is ultimately compared to her :-) Her voice was sublime. I also like Claire but have never seen her live so I have to make due with these recordings.

  • Claire Moore. Wow.

  • She's the real Christine

  • Brilliant cadenza!!!

  • wow that cadenza was amazing. I first heard Claire on the documentary of how the Phantom was made and you hear her sing Angel of Music and I thought that was really good but this, well it's amazing!

  • i saw Phantom during it's first month 2 times with Brightman n was let down by her lack of vocal talent- i decided to go to a Matinee with Claire Moore and what a difference to the WHOLE show it was having her! she was amazing!

  • I like both Sarah and Claire. It's true Claire is technically more secure. Sarah is better in the live version in 1992 (Japan) than on the original cast recording. However, I do associate this role more with Sarah than Claire. I haven't heard Rebecca Caine. I'm very curious about her if she's good in this because I didn't like her at all as Cosette. The original LesMiz recording I mean. She was so breathy and sounded weak. Judy Kuhn much better.

  • @MrTristan1983 Caine can be found on the London OCR of Les Mis-she is Cossette the elder.her voice is quite light.

  • @TZEITEL10 Caine's voice developed exquisitely though the years that by the early 90's she developed into a full blown Operatic Lyric soprano & also starred with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto (Her LULU was amazing). It's true as Cosette (at least in the recording) her vocal timbre was much lighter but if you listen to her in the Canadian Recording, you should be able to tell the difference. She was vocally one of the greatest Christine's ever IMO.

  • It is true that its hard to pull off a lyric song if you're voice is very warm like claire's. In fact, she is more of a belter tho' classically trained. She excelled more than sarah. If you watch the making of phantom, Claire did the first ever public preview 'coz Sarah decided to be sick and claire was received wit rave reviews from both audiences and cast members alike. the next day, lo and behold, sarah brightman miraculously gets better and assumes the role of christine. lol

  • @artsyboi You're a douche. Moore is great, but she couldn't compete with Brightman. If Brightman said she was sick, she really was. At that time, this was the biggest and most important role she had had. Plus, there's a reason this show has followed her throughout her magnificent career. I mean, she was still singing her Phantom selection in her Symphony tour last year.

  • @aarond53 In that case, her recovery was nothing short of a miracle-check out The making of.....documentary and see what fellow cast members had to say.Sarah got back the day after a triumphant and assured performance from Claire Moore.Brightman was then married to her mentor and musical miester Lloyd Webber and she had no way of knowing that it would hit the rocks despite the turbulent rehearsals. She believed,i'm sure, that she was made for life, after all she had been in other ALW hits.

  • claire moore sounds much cleaner and connected than sarah brightman, but the role was actually written for brightman, so no one can be better than that haha

  • @thereisnophantom true, she deos sound better, but that's not really a hard thing to accomplish IMO. I've never been a fan of the original cast, except for Steve Barton (it's a pity he didn't have a better English-speaking career). All my love goes to my copy of the Canadian Cast highlights with Rebecca Caine, Moore's London alternate, and Colm Wilkinson...

  • Sarah and claire are my favorite for the role of chritine.

  • FAR FAR better than Sarah Brightman... Honestly, Sarah Brightman only sang Christine because she was Andre Lloys Webber's wife... So unfair for Claire because she sings better than Sarah!

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the part for Sarah, to think that without her voice to inspire him, he might never have even written the music for the show, puts it into perspective. I do agree that after Sarah, Claire is the next best Christine, but the part was completely Sarah's.

  • @zram2008 Brightman was a hopeless actress, she was renowned for her wooden performances to the point where the dummy bride in the Phantoms lair was labelled Sarah by the crew, check out the late Frank Rich's appraisal of her-he was not impressed and he ,too, claimed that she got the gig on account of her marriage to Lloyd Webber,

  • @christmasfairytale That is true, many people who saw both women ,preferred Claire Moore to Brightman.

  • Definately better then Sarah, but I wouldn't say as good as Rebecca Caine.

  • What a fantastic voice! Sarah Brightman was great, too, of course, but I always felt her voice had sort of an odd color to it. Claire Moore's voice, I think, is much warmer. Not always easy to pull off warmth when you're singing that high!

  • surely one of the best christines ever !?

  • my gosh! that gave me chills!
