  • Fortunately maintanance is better now and stuff like this is a rarity.

  • if it can get you from a to b who cares?

  • @davidthekid2000 What if it didn't and you have to wait a while for the next bus to come and you really had to get somewhere ON TIME?

  • @htownman24 well thats there problem ( not MTA or your problem ) if they dont know how it feels to ride a bus with a motor issue then let them ride a bus to where they need to be on a important day to show that it dont matter to be there on time it matters to get there

  • Hmmm---well what I CAN say is this: If the bus does have any type of major motor issue, than it needs to be taken out of service ASAP and not to be driven again until the problems are fixed.

  • So yeah, I was on this LI Bus (1417) on the way home that we caught from Freeport to Jamaica a few months ago. Somewhere along the route some guy gets on, pays his fare and continues to move to the back of the bus... Once he grabs hold of one of the grab bars, it SNAPS off the forward-facing seat! LOL we were cracking! And there was also a flapping floorboard somewhere in there too...

  • That was a lawsuit waiting to happen! I wish they'd get rid of those 1400s, they are beyond their useful life. I think they should get some of the MTA Bus CNGs from CP over here to replace them.

  • Well, now they got the NG CNG's! The 1400s are slowly going! There's only like 40 of them in service for another year!

  • Any bus can just die.....it has nothing to do with age its just a maintenance problem...we had a Nova RTS in Brooklyn that kept stalling and they made him foce it all the way to the garage, IN SERVICE!!!

  • You know I got on this bus recently.....Its renumbered 1446 and I made a video of it...it ran perfectly fine...

  • Also the reason why the 1996,1997,and 1998 Orion V was not repowered to DD50G was because LIB never had enough money to overhaul the bus.

  • yep WoodrowWilsonHS is right, this bus 1446 (ex-183) has been scrapped.

The 1991 Orion V are all retired and the 1996 Orion V CNG are retring anytime soon, there are a few units left and some 1997 Orion V CNG are being replaced,i hope the MTA place addtoinal orders for the Orion 7 NG to replace all the remaining 1997 Orion V CNG.

  • Also the Orion 7 NG order is completed, but the MTA should place additional orders of Orion 7 NG.

  • You can't be serious!!! When did they retire this 1? That was a big mistake!!!!

  • um.the Orion 7 NG are replacing the 1996 Orion V CNG and some 1997 Orion V CNG.

Also,i saw this 1 at the Eastchester scrap yard.

  • Well I know eventually they're gonna be replaced by the VII NGs, but there was nothing wrong with 1446. I was on it a couple of months ago. I even made a video of it. It's sad!!!

  • the 1991 orion v and the 1996-1997 orion v cng are being retired.

  • update this bus was renumbered to 1446 in march and this bus was scrapped as of May 9, 2009 since they are getting replaced by the Orion 7 NG CNG.

the 1991 orion v and the 1996-1997 orion v are being retired.

  • I think it's an electrical problem because if it were the engine it wouldn't even that good. It starts right up every time. I bet it's electrical. They need to take care of those things lol.

  • Its better just to drive a car.

  • all the Long Island Bus Orion V is starting to have break downs since last year.

all the Long Island Bus Orion V are having problems.

  • Hybrids aren't that reliable either, sad to say

  • I have an idea MTA Bus should take over MTA Long Island Bus.

  • That is what is supposed to be happening, but until I see a blue stripe on the buses (without the orange) and renumbering, I'll just be waiting.

  • Also with the "MTA Bus" logo.

193 Orion V has blue stripes but it says "MTA Long Island Bus" still.

If Albany funds the MTA more money for the budget then the sign will say "MTA Bus" to replace LIB.

  • thats the stupid MTA to you...all they do is take over other bus companies...first was the NYC private bus lines...then the Bee-line allowing Metrocard...whats next...Suffolk Transit being take over by MTA...man this is so wrong

also is the #183 bus still in service???

  • The MTA Bus is going to take over Long Island Bus and the MTA is planning to have "MTA Bus" company to take over Suffolk Transit then after they take over Suffolk Transit then Bee-line bus line will be taken over.

  • man te MTA is like an advanced country annexing weaker nations...i ea sure that Suffolk transit dosent make as much as the MTA but c'mon those buses belongto SUFFOLK COUNTRY not NEW YORK CITY...that also goes tothe Bee-line as well

  • Also the MTA Bus should take over HART.

  • are you kidding? if the MTA takes over ST and HART, then that would be horrible! i live in Huntington and HART is fine the way it is! i do not want to pay a $2 or $3.50 fare just to ride within the town and same goes for ST when i want to ride within the county!

  • Triboro coach bate up their buses and the the buses from Triboro coach were abused and they were having break down and problems these years before MTA Bus took over and when MTA Bus took over the NYCDOT Praviet Bus lines, they maintain the EX-PBL'S better and they doing better and the MTA bus does better.

The MTA Bus might as well take over MTA Long Island Bus then Suffolk Transit then Bee-line Bus line.

  • MTA bus did take over MTA LI bus and NEVER AGAIN say MTA bus should take over Suffolk Transit cause there is no f-in way i'm paying $2.25 for a ride across suffolk! Nassau- Maybe, Suffolk- HELL no!

  • well the MTA Bus should take over Suffolk Transit since Suffolk Transit does not provide sunday service, from what i heard, the a person said that there was a good source that the MTA Bus is taking over Suffolk Transit and he hopes that happens, the MTA is already looking at Suffolk Transit's schedule.

  • in another video, John said that Suffolk Transit is going to impliment sunday service so if Suffolk Transit is going to do that, then no need for the MTA to take over. plus, all MTA buses use Orions, NGs, Nova buses and some others. a majority of Suffolk Transit buses are diesel Gilligs and MTA uses CNG so that would be another problem for the MTA

  • really, then send me the video for proof then.

  • watch?v=KUSSTwVGPYU&feature=channel_page

  • That is happening now as we speak. New buses with the new color scheme are showing up on Long Island but still bearing the MTA Long Island Bus logo.

  • I could tell it was a cummings engine by the sound. Ones that are diesel sound exactly the same. Their natural gas engines have lots of problems. So much that the ttc in toronto retired a whole fleet of buses after just 7 years. Orion6 buses they had. They converted other ng buses to diesel because of similar problems. New orion7 ng buses bought have all kinds of stalling problems there. The ones running in Brooklyn out of the Jackie Gleason depot seem to run pretty good. Buses need a rebuild.

  • I really think CNG has very little benefit. The buses cost more, they are more prone to mechanical problems, and the emissions aren't much less than today's clean diesels. A hybrid engine is much better than CNG. CNG produces just as much or more greenhouse has than diesel.

  • Hybreds also break down alot.
