@Gemini061882 Videos of the time weren't necessarily meant to represent the song in a dramatic sense, but had more to do with images evoked by both the lyrics and music together. Often they came across as weird or surreal or dreamy, and this is a good example.

"Bright eyes" is evidently meant to be said TO the singer as a kind of counterpoint to her angst, but the video places literal "bright eyes" on the objects of her fantasies.

@Gemini061882 According to the creator of the video: Shes dreaming of going back to her school girl days..she is in her old boyfriends (all boys) school, hence the swimmers, dancers, karate, groups that you see and might find in an all boys school. Bright eyes according to the writer of the song was a pet name for an old girlfriend. FYI,...this is not my opinion,..rather the facts. Now you know.

After 28 years, I can NEVER tire of this song or video. It came out in the summer of 1983, the time I met my husband, and fell in love with both song and husband. This is my song to him. I don't like Nikki French's remake, no passion in it, and of course I'm biased. But there's a spanish version that came out in 1997 by Lissette (Alvarez), which I did take to. My favorite song of all time. Nothing can outdo this.
