  • i use 3 in one greas and white grease. works fine for me. you can look on youtube shows you how to clean and lube them

  • I got my needle from LP Gear .com that was only one issue the rest are only one channel works for the audio the auto start is sticking but it runs fine in manual and the changer it self isnt working if i put more than one on at a time it drops both at once it is a bsr mcdonald 2260 bx professional i don't wanna junk it but i have no knowledge or money on wich to fix whats wrong and I don't drive I got it at salvation army in ankeny iowa where i live

  • I have exactly the same one here. The badge on mine says 'BSR mcdonald' though. You can get needles from maplin. They have thousands in stock, i bought two for no more than £3!

  • Wow. He definitely shouldn't have listed it as in mint condition! It's not in poor condition, but it's nowhere near mint. So sorry to hear about your bad experience on eBay. I've had my share of bad experiences of eBay turntables.

That being said, you have to take into account the age of the unit. That turntable's been around for years. I love BSR's...with a little tweaking and oiling, they last forever. Hope that things shape up for you!

  • Radio shack has needles for it Bring the old one to radio shack store and theyll order you a new one there really cheap. Or you can order one from needle doctor .com. Theres a store in syracuse New york called music express If you bring your old needle there theyll sell you a new one.

  • @thatmuse76 B.S.R. standed for Birmingham Sound Reproducers

  • Not saying that the seller was in the right (he was charging WAY to much for that unit), but this being a BSR (British Sound Research) turntable it was never very good. I can't tell you how many of those I have had to repair for people because the build quality is so poor on those units. Most of the time the platters are seized, the idler puck is out of round and all of them that have plastic platters never play at a very consistent speed (and play a bit up pitched on 33).

  • @thatmuse76 That's exactly correct. Mine ALWAYS played too fast. You can slow it by sanding the idler wheel down with sand paper. That's what I did on my Elac turntable. It plays close now anyway. I don't use a strobe disc on it to check how far off it still is, but sounds good enough. BSR's were a pain.

  • Where can I learn about electronics, and the mechanisms of turntables?

  • @CassetteRookie Me too. This person seems to know about them. I know nothing but how to work them, & thats about it. YouTube shows hardly anything about turntable restoration.

  • as AG3304 says, you probably need an ST16 for this, this has Lp and 78 tips. You can get the ST17 or single tip ST21, all will work.

  • What's that record? Sounds a little more pop than early Pink Floyed, more like The Move or something like that. I've never heard it before.

  • @lrd9999 Curiosity got the better of me; I googled the lyrics. It's "Friends of Mine" by the Zombies: the flip side of the second release of "Time of the Season".

  • @lrd9999 The record label was Date Records. The Zombies more than likely.

  • This is why I've never really bought into the Ebay concept; "mint condition" doesn't mean the same thing to all people, even if they're honest. My pet peeve with '70s turntables in general: no storage for the extra spindles/adapters and no hinges on the dust covers. That still plays pretty well for a plastic-platter BSR; I got rid of one because it couldn't keep an even speed.

  • most of the bsr's tone arms have landing problems,,but i love my bsr :)

  • If you're in the USA, you can get the stylus from Radio Shack, otherwise you can get the styli from the internet.

it should be an ST16 stylus. Be sure to get the diamond tipped one, they

I also have that same turntable, but with a different dust cover and base. It's a little on the cheap side, but they have a very reliable mechanism.

Also, what's that song? I love that!

Also, the seller sounds like a douche, but it's a good thing you know how to fix it.

  • @wilkes85 (douche) Here, here !

  • Aaaah, the exact one my parents taught me how to use and grew up with. All except I think it was an BSR/McDonald brand. Exact same though. Good job working on it. I have no clue what to do when something goes wrong with my turntables other than basic maintenance. No good at tiny mechanical parts. LOL

  • Nice turntable!

    I got the same model.

BSRs seem to have a bad reputation, but I think they're excellent turntables. Maintain them well, set them up properly, hook them to a good receiver, and they'll be very good to you.

If yours has the same cartridge as mine, it uses the ST16 stylus.

  • But you can play 78s made from the 1950s with a microgroove stylus.

  • That's a nice turntable,it'll be nicer when you've finished. You're right about them saying full working order - it obviously took some getting going again, and if you hadn't known how to do it you'd have been stuffed! You should be able to find a stylus quite easily,we can still get them here in th UK easily.

  • I went radioshack website to look for

a replacement but I didn't see my stylus.

I was looking the old stylus and I'm 51 years

old and it's hard read what's the stylus.

    I think it read 15HO ?

  • What's your machine's cartridge number?lt should be on the side of the actual cartridge.Ours used to be SC12M or SC12H for a BSR deck like that usually.Of course they may well have done their own thing with numbers in the States!15 HO is not a code l have ever seen...

  • @steelrain3 i get all mind on ebay steelrain. 15ho shoud be on there. i just put in neeld for record plays or stylus

  • Yes, you might be able to get a needle from Radio Shack, but you will have to go to their website and order it online. Sadly they don't carry replacement needles or cartridges in the stores anymore. You might be able to go to a store and order it there though.

Radio Shack is just a shadow of its former self!

  • I really can't read what it read on my old

stylus. All my friends are 50 and up as well and

    use reading class too.

  • radio shack still sells needles you need either the needle number or the cartridge brand and model.

  • It's getting there! You will have it working well in no time! That's quite a nice TT! The sound is good! It has absolute potential!

  • Seems to work good for what it is. Luckily, the turntable wasn't badly seized up like most of these BSRs. If it has a flip needle and the other side states "78", then you can play a 78 on it.
