  • Wow they coppied Flour Bluffs Clovers move for move, how pathetic , it was slow and sloppy compared to the Sea Devils though.

  • The commander sounds like Logan Stumbo

  • I was watching this routine live when I heard his report in. I was like reallyyyy xD.

But that was a very good routine!

  • Oh yea and our armed got first place as well.

  • Prodigy699 I am glad you respect what we are doing but our drill team has the moves you are talking about. I mean everything you said we should have we got. And I know because I am apart of the N.J.R.O.T.C program for the school. We see the A.D.T practice all the time.

  • So who likes our man stumbo?

  • u guys are extremely snappy but the thing is i notice that u guys do alot of the same drill movements and they are reeeealy simple so it hurt ur scores :( i really respect u guys but add some really difficult and flashy spins to ur routine

  • this routine is AMAZING!! how did you guys come away with just 8th place???

  • Thanks to everyone for the congrats! I'm Armed Commander from 2010 Nationals. I graduated last year and God do I miss it. Good luck to all of you in the 2011 Nationals! I wish someone would post the 2010 one, at least on facebook so I can see it again. I was watching this and got nostalgia haha.

  • Hey Centennial, this is Aaron Sandifer. I am the Armed Drill Team Commander for George Bush HS (The President's Own) for the 09-10 school year. I just wanted to let you know that although this routine was midly simplistic, It was definitly one of the better routines demonstrated at Navy Nationals in 09. The "snappyness" and precision of all of your drill team members is astounding! Can't wait to see y'all this year (Next week actually) and may I wish y'all the best of luck!.

  • was this in pensicola fl

  • all port spins and slaps. no variety.

  • Can't wait to do this in Next year in 9th grade :D do you have to be a certain height? i'm 5'4 5'3

  • height isnt really a huge issue, but if you're a freshman the timing either has to be perfect or you need to be exceptionally good at drill to make the team. good luck to you tho

  • Do you mean like you can't join it when you just moved to the school.Or do you have to like audition?

  • you can definitely join when you just moved in! you just need to know the right people and the timing needs to be right. I was REALLY lucky and the timing was perfect so i was able to be on i as a freshman. it also depends on your school

  • @Swrtzjstn12 i would tell you no, but you made that 9 months ago, and are probably in njrotc by now

  • @TheRiseagainstfan Yeah,I'm in it now. It's awesome, I just hate getting chewed out.

  • @Swrtzjstn12 i am as well, it is a great experience, but i gotta tell you man. you better get used to getting chewed out.. especially when you become a ns3, ns4 when the instructors dont baby you as much

  • @TheRiseagainstfan I'm sort of use to it because my dad yells at me a lot.Well he use to.2 weeks ago i majorly got chewed out for forgetting my cap at home. When your a ns3 or ns4 you get chewed out for every little mistake you make.

  • @Swrtzjstn12

no you dont have to be a certain height you just have to do really motivated and dedicated

  • Someone on my schools armed x is like 4'10 i think.

  • @BubbaUnit someone at my school is 4'8'' ...literally...== and he's annoying...

  • clean drill. this team works together great.cant wait to drill with u guys in a bit. (from troy).

  • @9Sandman2

ya but look at how perfect the drill is and if you watch other schools they are all sloppy with the drill. ours is on point and snap and pop

  • yo, i'm from northmont highs school, nd i jus wanna say, you guys were fukin awesome out there at nationals. cnt wait to see you guys back there nxt year

  • well u got 8th in ex and we got 6th. and we do have it up. just look for it. u guys did amazing in everything else though

  • hey good routine and congrats on winning im from flanagan n we placed 3rd in armed ex

  • that was an ok routine, im in winter park and we got 6 placed armed ex

  • Overall this is an enjoyable and effective routine. The repetition is a detractor at times and execution is not as high as it could be. Maybe the team can address these for next season.

I hope my comments have been helpful!

  • 7:42, marching backwards is good in and of itself, but I suggest layering weapon movements on top of it- not the "clock"-like movement- to enhance the effectiveness and increase the demand (difficulty) on the team.

After the report-out the team is not finished. I know this is the standard mindset- even the Head Judge is walking away- but the team is still within the boundaries and still has the time running- PERFORM! Use every last second to your advantage.

  • When here, why the Mark Time? How does this enhance the routine. The team is in these blocks for a purpose and delaying that purpose isn't effective at all.

7:24, effective pause! This works very well! And adding the head movement is a very effective as well- except that the execution is not exact, slightly detracting from the movement.

  • The entire time the Drillers are making their way to their place all they are doing is marching around at a modified Port Arms. There is little to no effort being given here, little to no effectiveness and little to nothing to see for the audience.

The reforming around 5:06 takes quite a while and there is little performance going on here.

5:57, very effective Rear March, but the execution is somewhat sloppy.

6:34, interesting tempo change to get to this position.

  • Incorporating slight and slow movements into the ripple line makes it drag on somewhat. I suggest speeding up the movements with the commander in line- especially since he executes the ripple movements at the time where he is centered on the line.

Having the commander move back and then having the team move into place to set up the next move takes away from the momentum that the team just created with the "Hoo!" yelled out by the team. Now the team has to rebuild the excitement.

  • 3:09, very effective use of the pinwheels to move into the single file company front. Instead of having the commander out in front of the team, I would suggest he move closer to the second rank on the lead up to just before the pinwheel movement and move into the single-file line. This would then provide an unobstructed view of the whole team during the ripples. Spacing ends up to be varied and so detracts from the ripples slightly.

  • However, the execution by the Drillers is very inconsistent and greatly diminishes the effect you are going for.

Around 2:48 there is a very effective tempo change and slight pause in the tempo change before resuming the standard steps per minute. This is very effective and I would suggest elongating the pause for maybe one or two seconds more to highlight it and the exact frozen positions of the Drillers.

  • Each Driller knows where the direction change is in the routine and knows what direction to go from and to. So, it comes down to teaching the Drillers how to make the flank movement appropriately and in sync.

At around 2:40 the team is at Right Shoulder, executing two short flanking movements and then marching with an extended arm swing. This is great! It's an effective change in style and works very well here.

  • The weapon movements here are what I'm calling the "clock"-like movements. It's very repetitious. The marching and the simultaneous weapon movements are called layered responsibilities. Layered is good. What the team presents here is simple layering.

Try to stop the video at 1:51. Here you will see that the whole team does not execute turns as it should. Distribution of weight during this direction change is not being applied properly by all Drillers.

  • A note on the butt-slam at 0:42- ensure each Driller is hitting the weapon on the heel of the butt of the weapon. This eliminates the bounce the some members experienced.

Try to stop the video at the initiation of the weapon spin sequence at 0:49. There you will see the weapons pointing in various directions. This makes it seem as though the team's timing is slightly off or out of sync (known as "phasing").

Just before and right after the report-in, the team sidesteps to their positions.

  • On just a cursory viewing, I noticed the team relies heavily on the "clock"-type weapon movements (that's what I call it, for now anyway) for much of the routine.

Watch weapon angles (arm angles as well); stop the video at certain times and look at how each Driller holds the weapon and notice the path the weapon takes- not all Drillers are doing the same thing.

The entrance sequence is very impressive. The sudden change in marching tempo works well.

  • My borther is the commander of this team, they are so good, I can't believe they didn't get 1st place,
