  • the syclone was the worlds fastest production truck only in the 1/8 and 1/4 mile its top end sucked! thats why the lightning was declared worlds fastest reaching 148mph i believe and then the SRT10 Ram beat it by acheiving 154mph

  • i did my dads truck has a turbo knn air intake true dual exhaust an edge chip headers and a 460 big block when you add all that together you get one fast sick truck if you just tap the gas on that thing it throws you back into your seat and when you floor it man it goes from zero to 60 in less than seven seconds about 6.7 to be exact

Ive launched a lightning and left a typhoon about a car length behind me! Theyr allot of fun and thats about it!

  • @Ridinred02 Ive done it ,haus ! I used a pair of street radials and i have no idea what he had! Lightnings put more power to the ground than the typhoon because of the crude all wheel drive they had. Traction is the lighnings only downside as far as drag racing goes.

    Now, top speed, would be the only thing that it would get "clobbered" on.

    The Lightning makes roughly 140 the Syclone makes about 126.

  • @gtrxxfiendxx Turbo's use the exhaust which takes zero horsepower and the Lightning is supercharged which takes horsepower to spin it ( parasitic drag ). The Syclone has less frontal mass ( less wind resistance ) and is lighter and smaller than the Lightning. AWD does help with traction down the track, it's just a matter of increasing boost and tune as needed to compensate for the extra drivetrain. European sports cars use awd also.

  • and your wrong, actually turbochargers are the ones that have to spool up at lower rpms, while superchargers dont have lag. They dont kick in in as late as 3rd gear. and turbos will keep makin boost , and they both use air to make boost. and syclones have better quarter mile times stock. And at least the syclone still has a title as quickest. But Dodge took over the fastest truck record

  • 99% of superchargers are made for good low end power, turbochargers are good for mid to high end power, thats why big turbos arent always so good if you cant get it to spool up fast enough, hence the reason why some cars comes eqipped with twin turbos, one turbo helps cut the lag time for the other turbo, hence creating a faster spool up. If you have a high revving motor, then you could probably go with a decent single turbo with boost controller to adjust the timing.

  • No, not all superchargers (as in definitely NOT 99% of them) are good for low end power. Roots-type positive-displacement superchargers (commonly used in OEM applications, like Ford's F-150 Lightning) are great for producing low end power while centrifugal superchargers (e.g. aftermarket Vortech units and the like) produce their optimal boost at higher engine RPMs.

  • along with what Buyahmiata said superchargers are always engaged because they are belt driven turbos run off the exhaust gas problem with superchargers is the boost is more limited and you cant alter the boost on a supercharger like you can on a turbo and turbos can have no lag or tons of lag depending on the setup

  • stock to stock faster isnt always the one that wins. A stock lightning is a fast truck but the quicker of the 2 is the Syclone, it gets to a certain speed faster but after that speed its gears are done and it will be passed by the lightning whose boost builds after around 3rd gear with a hard pull... thats how superchargers are they like top end because of the fact its pulled by the belts, the turbos use air psi to create boost. So in all there is no quicker production truck faster yes.

  • Do your research, the Syclone has a faster stock 0-60 thanks to it's AWD drivetrain, but the Lightning still boasts the fastest stock 1/4 time, what does that tell you genius? Somewhere after hitting early/middle of 2nd gear the Syclone just couldn't keep up. This one is modded beyond factory, get a clue. Bone stock they ran about 13.4s, Lightning can do 13.3 or something like that.

  • There is a big difference between quick and fast. For a while the guiness world record held the Lightning as the fastest, now it's the SRT10 Ram. No doubt the Syclone is QUICK off the line, but at the end of the 1/4 mile it's not faster than a Lightning, stock for stock on similar pump gas.

  • If he got BEAT by a Syclone then it was probably a 1/8 mile run, or the Syclone was running a higher octane fuel. I'm no mechanic either, but from what I've read in many public articles and from what I know about their drivetrains, motors, forced induction, and overall weights, professionally raced and timed Syclones and Lightnings come close at the end of the 1/4 mile, with the Lightning boasting the faster stock time, but the Syclone gets the better launch with the AWD and less overall weight.

  • Some do and some don't. They don't have really big turbos so boost actually comes fairly quickly. And with the motor as big as it already is, boost is almost instantaneous. All the ones I've read that run lower than 13s build boost at just over 3200rpm. Some of the lowest Lightning times ran just above idle rate.

  • you mean the srt-10, the rumble be is just a 5.7 hemi, runs high 14's, can be made to run low 13's N/A with mods though. The Dodge SRT-10 IS the worlds fastest production truck, the syclone isnt without modifications.

  • Wow there are some enlightening comments here. Anyhoo, this was my Syclone, so I can comment authoritatively on it. It was heavily modified; built stock trans, rebuilt motor with stronger internals, better heads, larger turbo and so forth. It was probably near stock weight, of ~3600lbs. You can do the calculation to figure out the HP. Obviously it is not stock, and it looked like the L was stock; no big deal. Syty's aren't reliable, but they are worth the effort to make 'em fast IMO.

  • ford made the 302. chevy had the 305. they replaced it with the 327 and 350 because they were more powerful and reliable. they stopped making the syclone because they had too much power for the truck which was basically an S10 or Sonoma. they didnt want more people to get hurt or killed in them,not because nobody wanted them. I want one and plan to buy one later. does anyone know how much power its engine has? i know its a 4.3 V6 with a turbo. or ill get an S10 and put a 350 or 383 stroker in it
