The authors simply used the image of Alien (something we all know) to symbolize a different kind of alien they didn't want to show yet. Cloverfield was cute but he's just a little 'cuz compared to the others. Ia! Ia!

i'm just throwing this out there, i don't claim this to be true. but i could see aladygma to be some kind of tie-in to the incredibly open ending of Alien verses Predator Requiem

In Thomas's Notebook, it has a picture of the Alien-predator taped in there... as well as ufo's abducting people to drop them back down with some sort of weapon to fight some giant ass monster...
