  • FYI Goldstar is the former name of LG. There is an LG branded Korean 3DO after they changed their identity.

  • Yeah.. But... Where is Frodo B.???

  • nevermind it wasnt this i did research and he bought me the phillips cdi

  • my dad bought this for me when it first came out it was 500$ it was sooooo cool using a cd to play games :D

  • This is the best 3DO related video online

  • I think it straight up was too expensive. I remember it being very impressive and buyable as a child. I think that if it was cheap enough it would have gotten some attention.

  • hmmm, didnt know samwise gamgee left the shire and bought a 3do...

  • Sorry, but you look like shelley on friday the 13th part 3 lol!

  • Thanks for telling me that the thing isn't copy protected (CD wise) Does this Also Apply for the FZ-10?

  • They Did release peripherals well only one I recall A Video CD Adapter

In America The released one for the Goldstar (only). In Japan they released one for the FZ-1 and I believe the FZ-10. But those are Extremly Rare.

  • you might be thinking about Lucky Goldstar ,better know as LG.

  • @tvandlust Goldstar is LG, its stands for Lucky Goldstar!!!

  • thanks for your video! Do you know of any good games to get on this system that you would recommend?

  • @Masteroftuba3 Crash n Burn, Road Rash, Guardian War, Gex, Alone in the Dark, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo are good places to start. :)

  • @tvandlust thanks man. I'm somewhat new to the 3dO and the less popular systems so this really helps. What price range do you think is good to purchase one of these?

  • @Masteroftuba3 It depends. I got what I thought was a good deal on my FZ-1 model: $35 with Gex, I think. It wasn't boxed or anything though. So I guess anywhere between $30 and $50, depending on what it comes with, but that's just a guess.

  • @tvandlust oh ok cool thanks!

  • @tvandlust Hey have you ever watched a show called "delocated" on adult swim?

  • ive got a FZ-10 had the pillar but sold it 12 years ago but back in its time it was a $600 console wow but need for speed was radical back in its day

    great video

  • another funny thing about the controllers, after you've daisy chained three of four together, the person on the end could pull all the other players controllers outa there hands if they suddenly felt the need for ragequit. lol

  • if somone could tell me where to buy one of these that would be great. i dont mean ebay, either. like a different website- this is one of the consoles i have always wanted.. but could not friggin find!!!

  • You didn't even turn it on. 10 minutes of talking, and you didn't even power it up.

  • @endornify I don't think people have a right to bitch about a video's length if they're not going to bother to watch the whole thing.

I did turn it on. I showed footage of Crash n' Burn.

  • @tvandlust What, a clip at 8:23 for literally 17 seconds?

  • @endornify I'm not really sure what you're looking for then. 17 seconds, 17 more, another minute. Doesn't matter, the game would have looked exactly the same. It's a system overview, not a montage of footage. There are other are videos for that (and, as a trade off, they don't present the history and information that this video does).

Regardless, you can huff and puff about the duration all you like, you were wrong. Qualifying it now doesn't make it any less so.

  • @endornify most reviews like this are informative and are mainly talking, if you dont like it, go away.

  • the huge case are like the uk saturn cases.

  • Okay, so as this video just described which I'm not over yet. Hold on let me get it out... 700 FUCKING DOLLARS!? ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME!? I'VE SEEN FUCKING PLASMA SCREEN TELEVISIONS THAT COULDN'T EVEN DREAM OF COSTING THAT MUCH! Okay I'm good.

  • The best game on the 3DO overall, is Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

  • wow that was interesting. I only just found out Panasonic released a console lol

    nice video man

  • Really big? Cost a shit load of cash? Was tattered as a "multimedia" device? Was shity? Sounds like the ps3 wen it first came out!!

  • Great system I had one. Only thing that killed it was the price tag. I wish Panasonic was still making systems.

  • cd based systems were not starting to become the norm in 93.

    not at all

not until saturn and ps1 was it normal

  • @TheSleathable Yeah? And they only came out a year later. And the Jaguar CD came out the year after that. And by the following generation, all consoles were disc based.

I never said that CD based systems were the norm in 1993, but that they were becoming the norm. In fact, you used my own phrasing right there in your comment. Based on all this, I'm confident what I said, and how I said it, was accurate.

  • no one had a 3d0 or jaguar cd. anyway thanks for the review

  • @tvandlust Even before those two, they had the Sega CD attachment for the Genesis and I bet other companies made 16 Bit CD consoles.

  • @itachi1303 Yeah, the CD add-on for the TG-16/PC Engine was the first home console optical drive, and that was in 1989 I believe, but it wasn't even close to the norm at that time.

  • when this thing first came out it was like 600 dollars.

  • the port on the side was for a video CD adapter much like the 360's HD-DVD add on which was a flop also lol

  • In case you didn't know and no one else said so, GoldStar later became LG (as you wondered what GoldStar was at the beginning of the video).

    P.S.Thanks for the buyer info!

  • When I first saw this for sale in 1993 I was shocked to learn that it was 700 dollars. I was happy to see that there was finally a 3d game system with decent graphics. But there wasn't much of a variety of games for it like nintendo or sega. Plus the loading time took forever. I really wanted one of these systems but it was way out of my price range for the time. I was stuck with SNES. However I was really happy when N64 came out in 1996 (finally a 3d gaming system that was affordable.

  • Cool! It looks like a VCR.

  • Very informative keep up the vids take care!

  • Panasonic is coming out with a handheld called the jungle. It is supposed to be leaned towards MMOs.

  • Subscribed.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom That Weird. I've Got 2 goldstar telly's (in the loft) and a VCR (Also In The Loft) from the 1980's Nowt Went Wrong with them

  • close proximity is not too close because the wires are pretty long. the max amount of players is 8. there is like 1 game that supports that many players and no games that support any more. also I guess people do the following: tie the controller wire around the controller a few times and than plug the controller plug into the multiplayer slot. no wires coming loose on that controller.

  • Goldstar is now LG Electronics. They changed the name because Goldstar was know for making junk VCR's that would break down back in the 1980's and 1990's

Samsung was also know as junk back in the 1980's and 1990's but they kept their name.

Both companies at the time up and coming South Korea.

  • you r sexy (not sarcasm)

  • I had one in the 90's

the coolest thing about was that you could play adult xxx photo cd's etc hehe

  • wow thats unque i might checks some pawnshops and see if theres one around town if not ill go on ebay lol coo

  • 3d0 rocks. I will never get rid of mine.

  • @Larommi71 same for me man i will never sell mine :)

  • the super nintendo itself is also capable of s-video output

  • In about '97, I did a borrow-trade thing with a buddy from highschool. He let me borrow his 3DO (that he purchased new back when it was $700 a few years earlier) with about 35 games and I let him borrow my Playstation with about 3 games. Long story short, we graduated and lost contact and never traded back. I laugh about those times. I actually liked the 3DO, I had some kickass fun on that system that summer.

    Good review. *two thumbs up*

  • Where can I find this system for sale?

    I really want it.

  • @kingxskippy eBay dot com ???

  • Early Playstation one games came in the big cases like that as well. Sega CD games as well. I think the Saturn did too

  • I remember playing 3D0 only one time on a display at Radio Shack. The game was Road Rash. I remember it being pretty good with nice graphics. I still can't believe that the original MSRP on this system was $699!!!! That would be like $1,100 today probably...

  • If I'm not mistaken wasn't the plan to have movies released specifically for the 3DO, that's why the controller has all the different markings. I miss mine. I traded my game boy for my 3DO & 3 games back in '94. I was the only person I knew that had one, so swapping games wasn't an option. I'd just buy used ones. I recently sold my 3DO, 2 contr. & 13 games for $170 on ebay. Which I thought was pretty decent for me. Nice review. Brought back some good memories. Mad dog McCree & prize fighter

  • GoldStar now known as LG (y)

  • What expansions would be used?

  • why this videos are upload for nerds?...ever

  • the neo geo t16 an atari jag look ok but notas good as the snes or gen.

  • cool review. I'm getting one simply because i couldn't afford it back then and now I can.

  • the good thing aswell was the 3do games had no copy protection so you copy games easy for which at the time i payed 400 uk pounds for a cdrom rw which was slow only 2 write but copied the games easy

  • @AstromechR4S8 if you want games you can download iso game files from rom sites as they will work straight from a copy cd as the 3do had no copy protection on their discs

  • the best option was the pc version the creative 3do blaster which came with a cd rom drive which i bought one and i had the same panasonic one

  • Hmm, you almost look like a parallel universe Sean Astin...

Anyways, just got my FZ-1 a few days ago. Lovely system, very satisfied with it! Ready to review it. Nice vid btw

  • I knew he looked familiar at the beginning of the video, just couldnt remember who, thanks for confirming :-)

  • bad timing again. thats all it was.

  • 3DO FTW

  • Good

  • dude, its sweating balls....just say it...

  • gex, road rash, need for speed, killing time were great 3do games. A friend of mine bought this when it came out.

  • wow i had forgot about killing time.

  • Goldstar was later renamed to LG. (Lucky Goldstar)

  • I WANT 2 BUY 1 CD ,, COZ I HAVE THIS GAME BUT I DUnt have acd , i always wanted 2 play , but i dint find cdzz i lost all my cdz do u mind me selling 1 cd 2 me?? if u dnt mind i wanna buy 1 cd ,, i live in london and u?

  • I'm sorry, none of my games are for sale.

  • @tvandlust I love you.

  • @tvandlust you dont need to buy them just burn them on a cd

  • learn grammer

  • @Hubanuche You're telling him to learn grammar yet you can't even spell it..LOL..Congrats, you are the ass of the day.

  • @nasir125 MOD IT!

  • @nasir125 just go to ebay nasire

  • @nasir125 As you say earlier in the video, go online and find the IsO for some of the games and burn them to a Cd-R, The console can't tell the difference.

  • hey crak do u have c.ds of this game

  • Yes, I do have a number of 3DO games.

  • Ugh...I had to watch filmstrips in German class. In 1999. Needless to say, that department had no budget. Our text books featured dialogues of children who were going to see Conan the Barbarian at theaters. *cries*

Anyway, great review. You always seem to have something good to say about consoles that weren't accepted by the masses. I feel that all consoles have something to offer, even if they were executed poorly.

  • I completely agree. I can't think of a single system I own that doesn't have some place in history and at least a few good games.

  • @tvandlust Even the virtual boy has its own place in history, and not just as a commercial failure.

  • cool, what was the race game you showed a little of?

  • Crash n' Burn

  • Hey, great review! Many thanks!

  • Nice video. I collect vintage systems and I have been looking at getting either a 3DO or a Atari Jaguar which one would you recommend getting first. I already have a Atari 7800,SNES, Sega Dreamcast,Neo Geo Aes, Atari lynx, Neo Geo pocket color.

  • Between the 3DO and the Jaguar, definitely the 3DO. I feel it has more worthwhile games, and its 3D games don't look completely awful like the Jaguar's do.

But the Jaguar is an ok system, as long as you're playing the right games. Definitely consider it down the road.

  • You're right the fz10 model did not have the headphone jacks on the controllers, thats the top loader model.

  • Thanks for the head's up!

  • I think Goldstar went on to become LG.

Also if MN12BIRD's review is correct, not all the controller's had those headphone jack's & volume scroller's on them.

  • That's a good point. Maybe it has to do with the manufacturer or something.

  • Cut your hair you damned hippie!!!

  • Holy shit! That thing had S-Video?!?! My mom got a divorce and used some money to buy a TV (27in tube was big back then for us) and I remember the back of the TV back in 93 and STILL to this day I never knew why that TV had S-Video... we never used it or thought it could be used(until like 1999 for Dreamcast/DVDs). Now I know. 3D0

  • Good ol film strips, Apple IIe's, and 3DO's =P

  • Does anyone know a good place to download 3DO iso files?

  • Actually, it wasn't EA who designed the 3DO. It was the 3DO Company. Both where founded by Trip Hawkins. But he left EA to start the 3DO Company.

  • Hawkins was still a board member at EA when he founded the 3DO Company, and he did so in partnership with EA. I think it's fair to call that a "joint venture." I fulbbed a couple times in this video, but this wasn't one of them. :)

  • True. But the thing is no one would really say that EA "created" the 3DO system. No more so then one would say Panasonic created the 3DO system. EA was more of a financial backer then a helper in development. After it is the 3DO system. Not the EA system. ;)

  • Oh I know. But I didn't say "created," haha. I said "joint venture." I try to pick my words carefully... most of the time!

  • I also remember renting this thing at a local family owned video rental store. $350 deposit on a credit card and when my dad complained, they told him it was only 1/2 of the price of the unit, plus the game cost.

They had been ripped off before. Anyhow, PLEASE COPY ISO's and seed them out on torrents. This thing will go extinct soon! 5 or 10 more years! GONE into the darkness!

  • I still have my FZ-1 unit and it works! I did download some ISO's but I found that you have to play around with "TRACK-AT-ONCE" and "DISC-AT-ONCE" settings and another one (I forgot) but they're the basic settings.

The games are HARD to find and they're becoming increasingly rare. I suggest anyone has games? Make an ISO and TORRENT IT OUT!

It wont be long until this 1st CD-ROM home game/entertainment system will become EXTINCT!!

  • Also sooo hot here --'

    Great video again !

    Learn alot ..

  • its really windy here like 50klh winds!

  • lol goldstar lol.....they make AC units and other house hold product. Sweet vid! Keep it up! PeacE!

  • cool

  • that actually looks like a sweet device. And that game looks awesome! I would still pick it up. :) but 700 bucks.. ouch..

  • Nice to see a well thought out review of the 3DO system. A couple of quick points. Both expansion ports were utilized by memory and VCD peripherals. Also, you will risk damaging the console if you plug in Atari or Genesis control pads as 3DO pads utilized serial communication over a proprietary bus while the Atari and Genesis pads were simple swtich connections. I have been collecting for the 3DO for a little over 9 years now and have over 350 unique titles for the system-I love the system.

  • Good tip on the controllers, thanks.

Also, I was under the impression that the memory and VCD addons were planned, but never released. Is that incorrect?

  • They were released. There were four VCD models produced for the various 3DO models, and one memory expansion unit produced.

There are some VERY rare pieces of hardware and software for the 3DO. I even have a Karoke add-on that produced for the 3DO.

  • Never knew that. Thanks for filling me in, I appreciate it.

  • one word: Gex.

  • Yeah, I have Gex. It's not bad.

  • We do apreciate it! lol

  • At my School they still have Filmstrips, they are old.

  • is this a dvd player as well

  • No, it does play CDs though. DVDs didn't come out until about 3 years after the 3DO did.

  • i hear that they are making a new ps3 like the slim ps2 but i dont believe them until i get straight up proof great vid i watched this after it was put up by an hour thank its too bad that i missed u are there any other places u may have vids or email any other way that we can comunicate then utbe plz tell if u dont its ok

  • Nice!

    I have the Goldstar 3do.

    Great review. Keep it up!

  • Goldstar = Lucky Goldstar. AKA - LG

  • OH, no kidding? I had no idea. Thanks for filling me in!

  • No prob bud!

Anything else you wanna ask about old consoles and stuff?
