Swallows are such a blast to watch! But I still like house sparrows more because they don't migrate in the winter, and they have more broods.

Yes, from a survivalist point of view, I suppose that they are admirable. From the point of view of anyone who cares about native bird species, House Sparrow nests are to be removed and discouraged.

Wow, first time i've heard that!
You are doing more harm than good for our native species if you're allowing them to nest!
Remove their nests!

Removing the HOSP nest is good, but even better if you can trap them with the eggs. So far I've trapped 24 adults and 24 eggs.

I've trapped a total of 5 HOSP. $ this year and 1 last year.
One male claimed a box, got him, 2 days later another one showed up and I trapped and Dispatched a mate he had, then reset it and disptached him.
In the same EXACT box, there are now 4 17 day old bluebird nestlings.
I am also evicting the HOSP from my neighbor's martin house (Whihc isn't very far from this one.
Occasionally HOSP flocks are in the area in the early day.
But no attempted takeover.
