I had the chance to visit Casa Lusitana on August 31, 2008 and was delighted to see Jorge Gabriel ride! He his a true gifted rider and he reminded me of Nuno Olivera. Very nice stable and nice people too!!! I took like 1000 pictures in the 4 hours I was there!!!

This is what harmony between rider and horse is all about! better than this only the great Master Nuno Oliveira! I am Portuguese and am nothing but proud to see all the comments made about Lusitano Horses and the rider. What saddens me is that many times such horses and riders are not enough appreciated in our country and need to go other countries to be appreciated and get their work recognised. he is a little behind..however still engaged and through his back so he is not beind the bit or evading the contact..he is a very nice example of the breed and this is a common issue with them and Andalusians...they are built like that....he is also ..7 most GP horses are 12!!!

People get so bent out of shape if a horse comes slightly behind the vertical. Of course the ideal is to have a horse perfectly balanced and soft on or SLIGHTLY in front of the vertical, but if you had to err one way or the other, I would rather see a horse slightly behind and soft over his topline (as long as he is still working into the contact, like this horse) than too much in front and bracing the underside of his neck and consequently his back, becoming hollow. Just my opinion.

U don't need rollkur on the average lusitano stallion, they curl up their necks out of their own accord. Actually, the problem is convincing them NOT to curl up so much! I've been working the same stallion for a year and he still goes behind the vertical on a loose rein with a Dr. Cook bitless! only way to make him go above is doing counted walk O_o...

What I love: The horse keeps his head still while doing piaffe and passage. Almost all horses of todays "great" dressage riders are "nodding" while doing these lessons, which shows that they're under a lot of tension and lag balance. Great riding.
