Did he forget about all those years Frank Warren built up his record by fighting bums and nobodies only to wait for the good fighters to age. Did he forget that 18 of his so called defenses were of the WBO belt. That's about as good as the NABF. He didn't even fight another champion until his 18th defense. In regard to Jones & Hopkins, Calzaghe reported a pretty laughable, "fear of flying" as one reason he wouldn't fight them. I remember thinking at the time how absurd that was, but it reached new levels of ridiculous when he went to the States to fight a well past-it Hopkins, & the corpse of Jones.
The ability to change tactics mid-fight was what made Joe a special fighter. He clearly changes tactics in this fight and Kessler has no answers. As much as I love Ricky Hatton, he was unable to do that and it cost him at the very highest level.

The only judge to give it to Hopkins only awarded him the fight by one point, including the knockout. Both the other two judges had Calzaghe winning by a much larger margin. Calzaghe beat him. End of.
Watch the fight. Mute the horrible biased HBO commentary and ignore Harold Lederman's idiotic scorecard. Score the rounds individually, based on who's landing the hard, accurate, effective punches. Look at who's controlling the action. That doesn't mean who's coming forward clumsily and off balance. Coming forward doesn't mean you're winning when it's ineffective aggression. Hopkins schooled him, and Calzaghe only edged rounds based on volume.

I always find cyber mudslinging of fighters to be interesting. The vast majority of people who ridicule and slander fighters will never have been in a ring themselves. These guys are hard men. As far as im concerned, most fighters deserve respect. Win, lose or draw it takes courage to get in a ring and face another man before thousands of people. Hopkins, however, would've lost to Calzaghe at any point in his career. Lets not forget. Calaghe-hopkins was a done deal 6 yrs earlier than it happened in 2002 until Hopkins doubled his demands at the last minute in turning down the guaranteed $3million. Did he forget about all those years Frank Warren built up his record by fighting bums and nobodies only to wait for the good fighters to age. Did he forget that 18 of his so called defenses were of the WBO belt. That's about as good as the NABF. He didn't even fight another champion until his 18th defense. In regard to Jones & Hopkins, Calzaghe reported a pretty laughable, "fear of flying" as one reason he wouldn't fight them. I remember thinking at the time how absurd that was, but it reached new levels of ridiculous when he went to the States to fight a well past-it Hopkins, & the corpse of Jones.

The ability to change tactics mid-fight was what made Joe a special fighter. He clearly changes tactics in this fight and Kessler has no answers. As much as I love Ricky Hatton, he was unable to do that and it cost him at the very highest level.

The only judge to give it to Hopkins only awarded him the fight by one point, including the knockout. Both the other two judges had Calzaghe winning by a much larger margin. Calzaghe beat him. End of.

then he finished his undefeated career off in style. toying, embarrassing, and humiliating the fighter that ducked him for years when Joe was in his prime. he had to get jones when they were both in the twilight of their careers, joe 37 roy 39, and he made roy pay like no one has ever done roy b4. yes roy has been knocked out, but never was he so brutally outboxed in the manner Joe whipped up on him for 12 solid rounds. it was brutal. calzaghe obliterated jones much like roy use 2 beat his foes

you add salambury, bika, byron mitchell, chris eubanks, a prime 1 loss omar shieka, he spanked lacy when all pathetic US media types said The middleweight version of tyson would knock him.. calzaghe put on a clinic, and ruined lacy for ever. lacy was a shell of himself after that fight. a prime unbeaten kessler also was picked to beat him, and everyone said that joe made a huge mistake. not, domination again. then came hopkins, who he bullied all night, and we know what hopkins is still doing

nope i am from nc and i think calzaghe is a great. most who dont give the undefeated champ his simple due are either racist, or blind us patriots. Joe beat two undefeated champ studs (at the time) in lacy and Kessler, two all time american greats in jones&hopkins (who assured everyone he wouldnt lose to white boy) then proceeded to get b slapped all over that ring while joe chased after him like a pure bully. hopkins even went to the pathetic extreme of faking low blows.

Badintentions you are 100% correct. The people who see Calzaghe as a true great are welsh patriots. .... always the same way with the smaller nations. Boxing greats are always superb athletes as much as punchers. Joes not a great athlete. His balance and natural ability are just average .... you only have to look at Roy Jones in his prime to see the difference between him and Joe. ..... , he would have KO'ed joe within a round in the 90's. ....

@binbob1234 I`m no Welsh Patriot, but i think Calzaghe is a Great. I`m English. Mike McCallum and Erik Morales are 2 of a small bunch of fighters i see as Great but neither are English., go figure. Period

Tarver challenges Calzaghe
"If Calzaghe and his people can respect me as the champion I am and make a deal that's worth my time, I'm willing to entertain that," Tarver told BBC Sport.

I always find cyber mudslinging of fighters to be interesting. The vast majority of people who ridicule and slander fighters will never have been in a ring themselves. These guys are hard men. As far as im concerned, most fighters deserve respect. Win, lose or draw it takes courage to get in a ring and face another man before thousands of people. Im sick of clueless arseholes calling fighters 'cowards' when it is a fact they wouldn't do it themselves. THAT is true cowardice.

Calzaghe was a great fighter but I didn't like the way he hit the back of opponents heads. That wasn't sportsmanlike.
He done in this fight and people booed the referee but the ref was doing his job.
Wasn't impressed either with the behaviour of 'some' of the home crowd; booing the Danish anthem; thats yobbish, disrespectful and gives our country a bad image.
