Ah, those were the days; back when almost everyone could win the extra four chips. Nowadays we're lucky if contestants can get that lucky due to the staff making the SP's so damn impossible.
First off the top prize was $25,000 then (didn't go to $50,000 till 96), and second no one has ever gotten the top prize whatever the era. The closest someone came was $21,000 when the top was still $25,000. Maybe you're thinking of that playing?
Nope...and besides, Plinko is WAY too damned overrated. I just never understood why so-ooo damn many TPIR fans get a stiff one over a pricing game that's pretty much luck-based, and no one wins the top prize. Not even once in the 25 years it's been in the game rotation on TPIR.
I'm glad to know there are others who don't like Plinko. Apart from the nearly-impossible-to-win top prize, this game is played almost every single week (even on weeks where there are only 3 or 4 new shows). Like Double Prices, Barker's Bargain Bar, and Money Game, this game is no longer exciting because of how often it is played.
@Wheeloffortunefan999 Actually, I was saying that since Double Prices (among others) are played every week or nearly every week, it is not as exciting. I'm saying Double Prices is not exciting, but if it was played less often, it might be more exciting--although I do understand why it is played so often.
The reason so many people love it so much is because the top prize is the highest common prize offered on the show. While it may be mostly luck-based, and though it's not my favorite game (my favorite is Cliff Hangers, the yodeling is awesome), It's exiting to think that someone could win the largest amount of money offered on the daytime circuit.
Nicely done!
