They dropped the hp to keep insurance rates down and meet emission requirements and rising gas prices of the time The grand national gets around that with a turbo'd v6. Actually the GNX and the GN engines were not the same. The GNX had more power, different turbo, some other engine mods that I can remember right now, and different rear suspension. Stock GN's were a low 14 second car. GNX's were a low 13 second car if you could hook them up.
I dont know who said a stock GNX ran 12s stock but thats incorrect. Boostnitup is right. Grannys were low to mid 14 second cars. All The GNX was a GN with fender flares, specific goodyear tires, and monotube shocks! THATS it. Exact same engine
The buick GN and GNX are actually two different engines the GNX was designed by McLarren Motor Sport for Generral Motors Corp., it featured a full portmatch and polish bigger turbo ceramic heat treated headers computer work, and a finned GNX diff. cover and was a whole 207lbs lighter than a regular GN.(owner 87 GN & #247 Registered GNX)
There's more to the GNX than what you stated. They had a modded trans, bracing, slightly different chip and some traction aids, and then there was also the different gauges/cluster and some other stuff I can't think of.
The 1987 T-Type was putting down 13.8's on a cold day.
Reality is most of the Turbo Buicks were in the 14.2 to 14.5 range after reaching operational temps.
The GNX was a specialty offering. 547 were made. Better grab up a GNX if you have the money. They will only go up in value... as will the remaining GN's and T-Types.

Yeah that is the only point I was trying to get across. I know a modded GN is nothing to play with. I only have one friend that has a stang that will run with your GN. He has a 91 LX with a 331 Stroker and spraying a 180 shot. He averages 11.50's on motor and 10.40's on spray.

Hate to burst your bubble but the Camaro and Trans Am was discontinued because GM was losing money on them not because they were afraid of it competing with their flagship car. As for the GN I will admit it was a badass car for its time but a lot of people are making it sound more badass than it really was.

They are bring back the Camaro because they see Ford making money by using the nostalgia look on the Mustangs. Why do you think the new Camaro favors the Camaros of the 60s and 70s. If you don't believe me then look up the reason GM discontinued them. As for your badass GN I know of a few SVO Mustangs with 4 cylinders and a turbo that are running 9's and used as a daily driver. And those were mid 80's cars.
And there's also GN's that run 8's in the 1/4 on the stock block. I've only seen one SVO, yes it ran 9's, and a shit load of boost too. Impressive, of course the fox body Mustang does weigh less than a GN. And GM is trying to copy the Mustang, it will probably flop, like the T bird.
I will give you that, I don't know what the hell Ford was thinking with the thunderbird so I will just say it was a brain fart. So instead of turning this into an argument I will concede that the GN was a badass vehicle for its time.
Also what you don't understand is that any car company can build a specialty car for a couple of years that is badass. Buick built the Grand National for a couple of years, Ford has been building Mustangs since 1964. Even the mighty Corvette was pretty crappy until 1998.

GN's sound mean when you run E85 in them turbo cars love the cooler intake charge associated with E85 and the 108 ocyane isnt bad either

Actually the GNX and the GN engines were not the same. The GNX had more power, different turbo, some other engine mods that I can remember right now, and different rear suspension. Stock GN's were a low 14 second car. GNX's were a low 13 second car if you could hook them up.

I dont know who said a stock GNX ran 12s stock but thats incorrect. Boostnitup is right. Grannys were low to mid 14 second cars. All The GNX was a GN with fender flares, specific goodyear tires, and monotube shocks! THATS it. Exact same engine

The buick GN and GNX are actually two different engines the GNX was designed by McLarren Motor Sport for Generral Motors Corp., it featured a full portmatch and polish bigger turbo ceramic heat treated headers computer work, and a finned GNX diff. cover and was a whole 207lbs lighter than a regular GN.(owner 87 GN & #247 Registered GNX)

There's more to the GNX than what you stated. They had a modded trans, bracing, slightly different chip and some traction aids, and then there was also the different gauges/cluster and some other stuff I can't think of.

The 1987 T-Type was putting down 13.8's on a cold day.
Reality is most of the Turbo Buicks were in the 14.2 to 14.5 range after reaching operational temps.
The GNX was a specialty offering. 547 were made. Better grab up a GNX if you have the money. They will only go up in value... as will the remaining GN's and T-Types.

IMO, 2004 and up are too heavy to be greatly affected by a blower, stick with an 89 blown 5.0L and thats where the money is :)

GN>Mustang. The GNX was a limited edition GN which was a limited edition Regal. Buick knew they wouldn't be making them forever and hence they're small build nembers. I think its impressive for an 80s turbo V6 to be woopin on a '05 blown GT Mustang.

Ford always outsold the f-bodys because thats all they ever offered as far as a sporty 2 door coupe was concerned. Everytime they tried to sell something else, it was cancelled. Hell, the T-Bird was supposed to be the answer to the Corvette. That was a joke. Where's it at now? It's been cancelled twice. The Cougar was supposed to be another ponycar. That really lasted. It's come and gone twice now too, with its last iteration being a 4 cyl/V6 FWD layout. The Ford GT(40) came and went twice too.

I doubt Ford people are gonna swap for chev. The built quality on the new comaros is rummored to be less than anticipated. Im a Ford guy, but personally I cant wait to get my hands on a new Challenger SRT-8 when they come out. It will woomp a comaro any day of the week.

You probably won't see a video of a GN racing a Cobra or Shelby because it won't be a race. No GN model has ran 12's stock which is what the 03 and up Cobra's run. If you want proof then go find an 03-04 Cobra or a new Shelby GT500 and let them show you want a Stang's rear bumper looks like.

Yeah that is the only point I was trying to get across. I know a modded GN is nothing to play with. I only have one friend that has a stang that will run with your GN. He has a 91 LX with a 331 Stroker and spraying a 180 shot. He averages 11.50's on motor and 10.40's on spray.

GM quit making GN's and Camaros and Firebirds because they want the Corvette to be the glory car, and when any of the GM high performance cars, such as the Z28, Trans AM or Grand National start looking like they can dominate the Corvette for less GM pulls the plug. You gotta love GM.

Hate to burst your bubble but the Camaro and Trans Am was discontinued because GM was losing money on them not because they were afraid of it competing with their flagship car. As for the GN I will admit it was a badass car for its time but a lot of people are making it sound more badass than it really was.

Also a GN can still run 10's-11's in the 1/4 with added boost and fuel still after 20 years while being docile enough to drive to the track w/o having to gas up every other day. They are bring back the Camaro because they see Ford making money by using the nostalgia look on the Mustangs. Why do you think the new Camaro favors the Camaros of the 60s and 70s. If you don't believe me then look up the reason GM discontinued them. As for your badass GN I know of a few SVO Mustangs with 4 cylinders and a turbo that are running 9's and used as a daily driver. And those were mid 80's cars.

And there's also GN's that run 8's in the 1/4 on the stock block. I've only seen one SVO, yes it ran 9's, and a shit load of boost too. Impressive, of course the fox body Mustang does weigh less than a GN. And GM is trying to copy the Mustang, it will probably flop, like the T bird.

Also what you don't understand is that any car company can build a specialty car for a couple of years that is badass. Buick built the Grand National for a couple of years, Ford has been building Mustangs since 1964. Even the mighty Corvette was pretty crappy until 1998.

Obviously you don't know GM. Yeah the mustangs started with 289's and so forth but the Corvette started in 1953 with 6 cylinders. As for Ford making weak motors I would put a Ford 429SCJ against any 400 or 454 from GM.

What kind of rear end does most Chevy drag cars have? The Ford 9". Just because people put chevy motors in Ford bodies doesn't mean Ford doesn't make good motors. Besides I haven't seen a stock Camaro or Trans Am that could outrun a 2000 Cobra R or even the 2003 and up Cobras. Do the research.
