Personally, I don't think one needs to feel any pressure about whether to call oneself an "atheist" or not. In a way it's a silly word. I think you can be religious and an atheist. Atheism just means you aren't theistic and for many Buddhist religions I think most are not theistic. I learned a little bit about Buddhism and then I learned about Taoism which actually makes a lot of sense to me. So yeah, it's more of a way of life and philosophy than a religion because most Taoists do not believe in any Gods.

It sounds like you are more agnostic than anything. I don't hear you rejecting the idea that a God could exist, but you just don't see any evidence of such. That is my belief as well. Personally, I don't think one needs to feel any pressure about whether to call oneself an "atheist" or not. In a way it's a silly word. Why should people define themself based on their views on whether a supernatural supervisory being exists, when there are so many other ways we can orient ourselves and define our values?
As for Buddhism, it seems to me that it can be a religion or a philosophy (way of life) depending on a person's particular approach to it. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I try to tell pat our presidents only pay lip service to God and Jesus. Hitchens has pointed this out before in debates. However, Pat never considers this possiblity. I think you can be religious and an atheist. Atheism just means you aren't theistic and for many Buddhist religions I think most are not theistic. I learned a little bit about Buddhism and then I learned about Taoism which actually makes a lot of sense to me. So yeah, it's more of a way of life and philosophy than a religion because most Taoists do not believe in any Gods.
The thing about Taoism that interests me is that it actually teaches that you can't know the truth, so stop trying
