its cinda wierd that the people who wrote the constitution and wanted "maximum freedom and liberty" owned slaves who had no "maximum freedom and liberty" for almost a hundered years 1776-1862 just sayin though
@TheStormbucket today it seems weird, but in those days it was normal. also, people did not necessarily treat their slaves 'inhumane'. it also depended of the kind of labor they had to do, how they were treated etc etc
Great video Matt! You should do the " what went wrong video" that was the best explanation of how our government is supposed to be I've ever heard. Thank you so much it gives me one more tool to use when trying to talk sense into people close to me!
you should do a vid on todays government...man it hurts, my whole life ive lived in this country and i havnt even seen in my lifetime the way the government is supposed to be...i love my land and my people but every day i slowly start disliking the actual country more and more...were still america but it wont be for long
So since the pyramid is upside down doesnt that mean that we the people need to take action. Unless we vote out the career politicians that can only agree to vote on their own pay raises we are basically screwed. I know there have to be a few good ones left but shouldnt we just cleanse the system and put in all new intelligent people? Right now the system is in trouble but we can bring it back. its not yet time for revolution so put the rifles down. A vote is a term limit so wake up and vote.
@bonesoncampus I absolutely agree, the last presidential election in 2008 was the biggest turnout of registered voters in 30 years and it was only 28% of registered voters. That just proves that we as a country have become too lazy to even vote yet sit here complaining all the time about everything. The first step is to get up off our asses and go vote to hold the politicians accountable for their actions
Kind of interesting when you flipped your graph around and put the individual at the bottom "in the cone of death". I'd anyone else concerned that our government is too damn big? Great video brother, thank you.
I agree with what you are saying. Look at the patriot act, NDAA, SOPA and IPPA. It isn’t just one party either, it is politicians in general. We now have a class of professional politicians who think the laws they pass are only for the little people (us). One day I hope to see the Constitution restored.
wasn't this country founded on FREEDOM not CENSORSHIP and curroption, also if you read a little i think ben franklin came up up with a phrase "the goverment should be afraid of the people not the people afraid of the goverment...? any matt what state do you live in i live in tx
@shtf79 Well actually voting would be a good start. Did u know that the last presidential election was the biggest turnout of registered voters in 30 years and and it was still only 28% of total registered voters in this country. We've grown lazy and allowed our government to steamroll over us and we haven't held them accountable for the things they've done.
I would like to add that although I do have many libertarian beliefs I wouldn't go so far as many do because I feel that is very naive. Everyone doing there own thing ALL of the time will first lead to anarchy then chaos-we are humans, that's what we do.
@gabrielle0869 Well the founders set us up to be as close to anarchy as possible to allow for maximum freedom and liberty without slipping into total chaos. It's a fine line and its one that the founders weren't sure that they could make successfull but this was the grand experiment of the U.S.
I wish we could get the police to understand this so they would stop beating us when the Fed Government steals our money and put a check on the TSA so they would stop putting their hands down our pants.....
@tr2899 Absolutely they made the constitution so that if we needed we could make adjustments to it to suit the needs of the people, but only a very small percentage of the things that the government has taken control of or simply done has been done within the bounds of the constitution. Federalizing the educational system, the post office, the railroad, healthcare & borrowing us into practical slavery wasn't done within the bounds of the constitution, it was not ratified among the states
I find it funny that the big government liberal shout about people paying their "fair share" while 47% of Americans dont pay any tax at all. Lets talk about their fair share
I fully agree with you Matt. The problem is, both the Liberals AND the Conservatives put the government above the people. The whole thing needs to be changed. Either you believe in a big powerful government or you don't, THIS is the real issue.
@bencanon2 Absolutely, Republicans can talk all they want about wanting small government but in the end they're just more political clones just like the Democrats.
The way it was always explained it to me...The individual votes on things going on in their state (so tells the state what to do) they also put senators etc. in office which then take the individuals opinions and ideas to the federal government so that the federal government can carry out what the people have decided. Unfortunately though you're right in your idea of it all being turned upside down and I wonder what kids are being taught these days?
@tr2899 I mean big government as in one that has created an income tax, restricted the 2nd Amendment several times over with legislation, taken over the educational system, allowed the federalization of the health care system, started a social security system, borrowed us into debt with other countries to start useless wars & put even more Americans on the public dole, all things the founders either did or would've disagreed with. Thats my definition of big government.
Just look at our first Constitution, the Articles of Confederation. It restricted power from the feds even more than our current constitution. A clear example of what our founding fathers wanted.
It's great how our government has the right to give itself as much power as it wants, with few checks and balances. We the people have no control over it whatsoever, sure we get to vote; but it seems like most vote strictly with their party or dont care. We get little control over who is in those parties yet are loyal to them.
Ultimately the country is run by a few hundred very select people behind closed doors; totally disconnected from reality: the federal government & agencies they create.
So right now the leader of our country is Mrs. Obama, Vice president is Barack Obama, their court jester is Joe Biden, and their sooth sayer is Mrs. Clinton!?
thats the best analogy ive seen on this subject Matt! great job man! i know alot of mutha freakers that need to watch and learn from this video...damnit! now im probably on "the list!" I'm hoping if Ron Paul doesn't get elected,Texas will seceed & make Paul president..Then i'll be moving to Texas!
@tr2899 This is a simplistic but accurate view. There may have been those that wanted big government but that doesn't change the type of government we were given. Every document from the bill of rights & constitution to the federalist papers show a clear vision of this country by the founders towards a smaller less restrictive form of government, which is what they ultimately intended
@NeverEnuffAmmo Very good come back Matt. Some folks don't do the research on this subject. It is true that some wanted a bigger role for the "Federal Government" but some like Jefferson were not in favor of things being run by a "centralized" federal government and mistrusted the concept. The end result is what was written down. The federal government was responsible for an armed force to protect the "United States" and to send Ambassadors world wide to represent our veiws. Need to set it right
Those same individuals made the second amendment. Why? In case we the people decided that te goverment was a tyranny and we would be able to take it down. Nice vid though.
I like your train of thought. I would have kept the order the same but included local government between state and individual and reversed the pyramids. So that the first diagram show the amount and strength of the Individual as the largest and decreasing from there.
@landshark22 Your absolutely right, local govt. is a very important part of our form of govt, I just didn't include it to keep it simple, I kinda just ran it together with the state govt.
i wish they would teach us this in my school i have to go out on my own and learn the way this great country was made and what its founder had intended for it to be...if you can find it i highly recommend you try reading a book called the 5000 year leap:the 28 principles of the constitution...the author escapes me but as always thanks for another great vid.
Sadly, I think the Federal Government would use the argument of slavery to justify what they do now. They are just protecting individuals from other individuals. Please note that I am not saying that I agree with that. Don't yell at me anyone. I am fragile and can't take it.
@docsimonson Lol ...... Ok I won't yell. I know what u mean though, they've become a nanny state that thinks that they need to tell us what to do for our own good
I agree with most of what you say. Yet your pyramid in my opinion is wrong. The individual should be on the bottom. On a pyramid you would build with the strongest part on bottom. And as you go up each level SHOULD get smaller. In a democratic republic the bottom is suppose to dictate what the TOP does. Hence the constitution. The Federal government was suppose to only be able to do things specifically stated in the constitution. Everything else was reserved to the states.
@LJH08Ralith in other words. the most power and liberty on bottom and as you go up power gets restricted because it has to take its power away from the foundation which is the People. Don't forget what happens if you take out the bottom portion of a building.... the rest falls down :-)
@LJH08Ralith Well we're comparing the size of something vs the importance of it, either way both analogies work, I simply use this one as it is easiest to understand and see how important the individual is because they are at the top signifying the most important part. But rest assured that the fed was originally meant to be a stable base to support the rights and freedoms of the individual
