Clearly it's not intended to be a scientific measurement, but a common standard that conveys size to a non-scientist audience watching at home.
If you still want to be a jackass, I'm sure there is an internet app that converts football fields into decimeters or whatever pedantic bs gets you off. Enjoy.
i have been on this ship before a lots of times ,working the discharge side at the dock in texas, real nice ship, the koreans are building a much better ships right now, easy to get around on deck
@MovingUpp horsepower is completely irrelevant, the thing that matters the most for such big ships is torque and diesel engines are known to give you vast amount of torque.
@tupsumato tankers need not be fast nor big, especially chemical tankers. they are limited in size due to multiple factors. petroleum tankers, e.g, aframax, suezmax, vlcc, in other hand, are much larger in size. they too need not to be fast.
@cockercane What they ment is : "Protect [ your working] environnement [from freaking explosion]. No smoking" My uncle works on oil tankers and they wear jumpsuits with rubber buttons to prevent static when they are on deck because its not safe. Imagine a cigarette.
@cockercane = Sir, I've been working aboard oil tankers most of my 15 year sea-going career and those letters mean alot to the men & women who crew these ships. What we have to worry about & fear is the shipowner!
@cockercane Well they are referring to the ecological disaster that would result when a the ship is set ablaze from a cigarrete and it releases its oil into the ocean.
i still didn't get it

That's NOT sand on the weld... It's flux... WTH?
4gasem 2 months ago
@4gasem it's sand; flux wouldn't hold to in industrial welding. it's only to keep out any contaminants. :)
