  • Thanks

  • quick question:before taping the finger should we put a base coat or any colour of nail polish?(and how many times?)

  • @musicstargazer yes, I usually do my base coat & color first =) how many layers is going to depend on the color but usually 1 or 2

  • I love your videos! I tried this for the first time last night and it worked! The tape I have is too sticky and hard to get off without messing up the polish so I tried lotion instead. I put a thin layer around the nail and finger then whiped it off with a tissue after a dipped.

  • @2000jasmin It's been on my to-do list for a while now to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick etc, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Aside from the fact that it seems like it would be very messy, several viewers have told me that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • Ahh, yeah I understand now! THANK YOU!

  • DOES NORMAL SEE THROUGH TAPE WORK???????

  • @SuperLydia121 you can use any tape =)

  • would i tooth pick work instead of an orange stick?

  • @MrMakeupgurl I've often used toothpicks and they work very well :)

  • @MrMakeupgurl yes, you can use anything with a fine point =)

  • I don't know why, but when I tape my fingers like that, the tape MOVES after it gets wet :( It often slides off a bit and messes up the marbling when it does that :(

  • @outipapu I've never had that problem - are you hands completely clean of like lotion or anything?

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues I tried again yesterday and this time I was being extra careful when taping and made sure I did it exactly the way you do.. and now it worked perfectly! :D I'm not sure what I did wrong before but I'm really happy it worked now. Thank you for all your tutorials, I'm a big fan :)

  • i just noticed that ur name is simplelittlepleasues not pleasures xD

    thumbs up :)

and check out my channel :D

  • i just noticed that ur name is simplelittlepleasues not pleasures xD

  • Mwahahah. >:] Im a pro at water marbling now...

Lemme just get longer nails. V_V

  • does water marbling for for fake acrylic nails??

  • @TheSadhvika I haven't tried it myself but it should be fine =)

  • i didnt realize it was so...so...EASY!!

  • I find that chapstick is alot quicker and easier :) But as you said it can leave a residue in the water which isnt helpful :(

  • Does it matter what type of vessel you use to hold your water? Is there too big/too small? I tried an old mug but it didn't seem big enough and I tried a glass bowl but the polish only spread over half the surface

  • @tarantula9200 I've found polish spreads better in a smaller container - the cup I use is just 5 oz =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues i have a question that you have probably already answered: is it okay to not tape your fingers or use any type of lotion tape vaseline, et.

  • @ilovemiddleschoolyah It's been on my to-do list for a while now to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick etc, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Aside from the fact that it seems like it would be very messy, several viewers have told me that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues i tried using lotion, and as you said, it does leave a residue in the water. it takes a while to clear out the water, but it makes the clean up on your fingers a lot easier and faster so that you normally don't to use remover on your hands when you're done. i found that if you use lotion, you could use get a napkin or something, and wipe the nail polish on your skin and it comes off easily without leaving bits of nail polish on your skin. i hope this helped ^^

  • @xStupidityx3 with the tape, I only rarely end up with any polish on my finger =)

  • I don't have tape , is it okay to use lotion ?

  • @chinggay90 It's been on my to-do list for a while now to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick etc, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Aside from the fact that it seems like it would be very messy, several viewers have told me that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =) but if you have no tape it couldn't hurt to try

  • Hey! Um i love your videos and i was just curious how much tap do you whined up using in a month? lol

  • @lexibrooke520 not really much - you only need small pieces =) the roll I use for marbling I've been using over a year

  • Thanks for your videos so much!

  • can u use duct tape?haha im getto

  • @hellojacke1 I think it would be too sticky & hard to remove, but I guess if it's all you have it wouldn't hurt to try =)

  • I tried water marbling today, and it did not end up working, I did not use filtered or bottled water, and I have very short nails. I use sally hansen Xtreme wear.

    any tips for me???

  • @bubba1biss I always use room temperature filtered water from a Brita pitcher because most tap water is too hard & the polish will not spread as well. Bottled is also usually OK as long as there are no additives. You can check out my water comparison under the Tips & Tricks playlist in the information box to see the difference =)

  • Ilove you're water marbling video's collette. I wach everyting.... Love it!!!

  • Is there a difference in effects of the masking tape or scotch tape? I usually use masking tape, but a lot of people seem to prefer scotch.

  • @Number1ChoChangFan I don't think it makes a difference - you can use whatever is handy as long as it's not too sticky & hard to remove =)

  • what are the pros/cons to taping vs. applying cream/vaseline to the skin around your nails? thanks!

  • @BluRaindropz It's been on my to-do list for a while to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick etc, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Aside from the fact that it seems like it would be very messy, several viewers have told me that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • @boysndMAKEUP I think it would be too sticky & hard to remove =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues i ran out of scotch tape, so i use painters tape (the blue one you put on the wall when your painting) and it works well!

  • what kind of water do you use?

  • @prettyinpinkxoxo28 I always use room temperature filtered water from a Brita pitcher =)

  • omg THAAANK YOU for this video. before this, i would use so much tape, it was a waste. this is so much easier then the way i was doing it ><

  • do you put the tape on each nail individually or do you tape them all at the same time ready for use? thanks by the way i love your tutorials :)

  • @ImaCremeTruffle I usually do one full hand at a time =)

  • IM A BIG FAN BUT I HAVE SHORT NALIS CAN U PLZ DO A WATER MARBLE FOR SHORT NAILS PLZ!!!!!!!!!

  • @daphney94able check out the marble I did on my mom's short nails =) She may make another gues appearance eventually =)

  • @daphney94able I have short nails and I just tried doing a water marbling on my own, just do the same thing as doing it with long nails. just tape around your nails and dip :)

  • @daphney94 she did do one

  • Hi I am 9 so I have short nails I tried it but it did not work can you help me oh is fridge water filtered bye going to dairy queen then to get nails done

  • @bylashbaby715 I think most fridge water is filtered but I'm not sure, I get mine from a Brita Pitcher. if you have short nails you just get less of the design, so it's very important where you dip your nail - check out my short nails marble with my mom for hand model for some tips =)

  • i have a question about the marbling its self... i can get all my colors to spread and what not.. however i find by the time i go to make the design. its amost to hard and wax like. what am i doing right?

  • @jekkie01 every polish dries at a different speed & the ones that dry fast won't work well for marbling - you either have to work quicker or find colors that dry slower =)

  • I litterally just finished marbling my nails for the first time a minute or two ago. Thanks so much for the tutorials! This is so beautiful ,and way easier and faster than painting nails. Again, thanks so much!! :)

  • me , mi mom and sister did this and its fun.... MARBLE NAILS!!!! (water) LOL BYE!!!

  • Can u use petroliumjelli around the nails in stead of tape

  • @hammel132 It's on my to-do list to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick etc, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Aside from the fact that it seems like it would be very messy, several viewers have told me that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • @itsjustdani1 seems to work fine for all the fans posting pics on facebook =P what problem are you having?

  • Can I put colorless nail polish after?

  • @diannevisperas yes =)

  • how long did it take you to beable to water marble really well?

  • @MrChubbicheekz not that long, but I would also say I'm still learning =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues thats what youd say, well i wouldnt!!!!

  • short nails to you, is long for me =D

  • hey i just started watching and it turns out ive been doing marbeling wrong lol XD

...but my nails r short can i still do marbeling?\

  • @MakeItShine2010 yes, if you have short nails you just get less of the design =)

  • How long has it taken you to grow your nails so long!?

  • @krissyohgeez this is actually on the short end for me, but I pretty much maintain them long - they grow about 1mm/week =)

  • Thank you...

I am going to try it now

  • @SimpleLittlePleasures Okay and thankyou for answering

  • How do you grow your nails so long?!? My nails have no strenghth so everytime there a little bit long they chip or break so i have to cut them

  • @DeeDeesx3 I try to keep my nails moisturized, lots of lotion & cuticle oil & I also take a biotin supplement – you can check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine. I do occasionally get a tear or break but you can check out my tutorial on silk wrap patching for how I save those nails =) I do "Naked Nails" posts on my blog every month or so where I talk more about like all the specific products I'm currently using.

  • @DeeDeesx3 Why dont u use a nail strengthener polish that what I use, my nails are long and they dont chip when I use that. :)

  • Girl you are the bomb! thanks for sharing and being a great teacher!

  • hi colette , i'm a big fan of you and i'm gruduating soon , so could you do a graduation episode for me ?

    please ....??.

  • @kidchips2ran I don't really do any shout-outs in vids, but a good design might be in your school colors =)

  • uhm ok thanx colette i am actually from suriname , a countrey in the caribean north of brazil , ans my school colours are blue ( blue t-shirt) with a black circle and a bird in it

  • Why is that in some of your videos that your skin tone is a light color and then in another video its a darker color? Please Reply :)

  • @baseballrules2365 it has to do with the lighting & my camera settings - also I suppose at this point some filmed during winter & some in summer =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Oh thanks :)

  • thank you so much each time i do water marbling i tape to far on my nail cause i always get scared if it goes on my skin but now im fine

  • thnx i always used to get the polish on my skin and it was so hard to get off

  • Hi Colette!!

Is there any preparation for the nail before marbling??

  • @caroltimbo yes, I always recommend a base coat as well as a base color =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues are they needed to do water marbling? the base coat?

  • @12PPB it helps the marble colors to be more opaque & vibrant =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues lol ok this is going to be a little weird. have yo ever tried doing it on your toes? my nails aren't as long and didn't come out as nice

  • @12PPB I haven't myself, but I've had a few viewers do it =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Why do you use tape instead of petroleum jelly? IMO it covers the skin (including under the nail) and cuticle better than tape and there is relatively less clean up around the nail after.

  • @ssecretsvc It's on my to-do list to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. A few viewers have told me though that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • wow...

thats a very short but informative video!there should be more of these on youtube..

Thank you very much, now my ''nail art'' wont suck as much :D

  • I made my own how to for Water marbling :) but i suck at taping off my fingers so would it be ok if i put a link in my video to this video so people can learn how to tape them correctly? Lol I love all your videos! :)

  • @KrAzEyOvAeDwArD4eVa sure, I don't mind =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues Thank you :)

  • where do you get the orange stick? can i just use like a toothpick or pencil or do you buy the specially made ones?

  • @darknessangelism They’re available most places that sell polish, usually stocked near the files & clippers =) you can use anythingwith a fine point

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues thnx u, really helped =)(=

  • all i have is electrical tape T__T

  • What if you ave shorter nails? (not bitten but short)

  • @LiviaLollipop do you mean for the taping or the actual marbling? You'd put on the tape the same way, and for the marbling you'd just get less of the design =)

  • where did you learn how to water marble??:)

  • @oyamagalesiralhc I read about it on several blogs before I started doing it myself =)

  • Hey are u that one chick from GS? haha jw im that chick WOLFYeatzPIE

  • @KATARINAdaSMEXYBEAST Hmm, I don't think so because I don't know what GS is LOL =)

  • Are those your natural nails!? They look like you did a French manicure on them! How do you keep them like that if that's not a French manicure!?

  • @tvbx520 yes, my nails are natural =) You can check out my Nail Maintenance vid in the Tips & Trick playlist for my full routine

  • @KarmaCherryJewel It's on my to-do list to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. A few viewers have told me though that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • I don't think I could tape mine like that since mine are still so short. =(

  • @meadowfrance the length of your nail shouldn't effect taping, the tape only goes on your finger - I was able to tape my mom's short nails when I do her manicure =)

  • nniiccee ccooll!!!!!!!!!

  • That helpful

  • I was trying to look for this. I'm so gonna try your technique soon.

  • You are brilliant :) im so excited to see if this works, and the tapes so easy to attach to each fingers =D i want to do it now but its 11:30pm lol

  • OMG you did this tape on my birthday!!

  • OMG. Now i know what to do with the tape! Thanks. :)

  • if you do the marble thing

    does it get dry fast?

or are there any idea to make the nail polish dry faster?

  • @arubiangirl04 I always use a quick-drying top coat =) my favorite is Seche Vite

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues

arent their any other options more?

cause they dont sell it around here :S

  • @arubiangirl04 there are many other brands but not really any that I've personally used =)

  • do you have to use filter water

  • @maiwand2345 I always do because tap water is too hard & the polish will not spread as well – you can check out my water comparison under the Tips & Tricks playlist in the information box to see the difference =)

  • Thanks, didnt wan to start before i knew how to put the choch on and how to take it off! xD lol ;D

  • omgoodness that was cool.

  • this might be a dumb question and i'm not sure if you've answered this before, but do you apply a base coat before you water marble your nails?

  • @LMC916 yes, I always use a base coat as well as a base color =)

  • does water marbling work for foot nails if so please do one(: thank yaa ;)

  • @NickJonasfan55555 I haven't done it myself but I've had several viewers tell me they've done it =) I don't have any plans right now to do any pedicure vids though.

  • can you pleaseeee shop how to use the stick with out making the paint stick to the orange stick

  • @Elliana2001 it just has to do with the polish - if it starts to dry it will stick to the orange stick - or if you dip it too deep it can also stick. You need very slow drying polish & just use the very tip of the point to draw the design =)

  • hi girl! Your nails are gorege! Love the videos! especially the poolside water marble! Tie Dye nails! LOVE! Just a note to say there's a spelling error in the video description above. kinda funny actually.

"to prevent getting polish all over your sin." LOL. I know you don't want polish all over YOUR sin! xD lol. k. sorry! Just had to say that! But LOVE! thanks! ;)

  • @crumpitt LOL! Thank you, a lot of times if I dont catch it the first time around it will stay there for a long time as I don't often go back to my older vids, I'll make sure to fix it =)

  • can u use natural nails because i dont have very long nails....also the orange sticks... do u reuse them...

  • @jjpsh my nails are natural =) & I do reuse the orange stick, I'll clean it off with acetone & basically use until it is very stained or if I manage to break it.

  • hey i commented on one of ur other videos requesting a video for this and just found it haha thats helpful(: ur wonderful!

  • how do you paint nails marbling it doesnt work for me

  • @zaniass well, I do have a basic manicure tutorial planned eventually - nothing too fancy though: base coat, 2-3 coats of color & top coat =)

  • Hey,do you have Golden Rose polishes? If yes,can you make marble designs with them? I'm asking because i want to buy some, because they're great as normal nail polishes

  • @skr3wy0u I have a lot of polish but unfortunately none of that brand yet =)

  • @ChannonRose hmmm, I don't know how I'd acheive that kind of a pattern, but I'm always experimenting =) Usually though if I want an animal print I'll use Konad

  • ahhhhhhhhh. ingenius. totally makes sense =]

  • you make this look so easy! me and my friend have been watching your videos and were going to try and water marble our nails later today! thanks for the inspiration!

  • do you have to tape your fingers to do it?

  • @nerdzizzle no, but it makes the clean up much easier =)

  • @SimpleLittlePleasues thankyou.

  • love this !!!!!!!!! i tried it wit tap water

    Come check out my vids

Crazy girl and hotel do not go well

post comments tell us ur feedback

  • Do u think using the blue paint tape would also work?

  • @luvmyjjj yes, I think so - you just don't want anything TOO sticky =) Like duct tape LOL

  • I'm so excited to do this :D

  • OMG thank you sooo much. This is really helpful to me. Do you have any videos for your toenails? Im going to a indoor swimming party and i want to make my toenails look nice lol

  • @Runejenn98 I don't have any pedicure vids up - if you want so see some though, I think Annasbeautysecrets has some & also Tartofraises =)

  • Woowwww this is the coolest thing EVER!!!

    Me = O.O

  • @glittergirl637 well, I really don't have any tips other than what I show in my normal tutorials. The hardest part is choosing the right polish, not every one works - each color is different in the water & it just takes a lot of trial & error to find the ones that work well. You want one with good pigmentation, maybe a little on the thick side but thin enough to drip & above all slow-drying. HTH =)

  • When you water marble does it matter what kind of water temperature you use?

  • @les10522 yes - I always use room temperature filtered water =) You can check out my water comparison vid, part of the Tips & Tricks playlist

  • Another way is, (to not waste tape) just any regular lotion around your nails. Than when your done if there is any more nail polish around your nail then get a paintbrush and dip into nail polish remover it works great! :)

  • @LaDyHaHaXD It's on my to-do list to do a comparison between taping & lotion or vaseline/chapstick, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. A few viewers have told me though that they can leave a residue in the water that makes it harder to do the next designs, which is why I've stuck with tape so far =)

  • should i take the tape off right after i take it out of the cup after i do the water marbling or should i wait for the nail polish to dry?

  • @MeiMay513 I usually wait until it's dry just to be on the safe side, but you can take it off while wet as long as you're careful =)

  • gona go try this right now.. .thnks

  • thanks this really helped!

  • heyy!Febuary 22 is my bday!!!

  • Can I decorate my nails with like rinestones after?

  • I tried this and you are right it just takes trail and error and I did get get it to work after a few tries but I do have a couple of questions sometimes when i was dragging through the polish it left a small hole can you fix that because when I tried it just made the polish sink and left a glob on the nail and I am getting bubbles under the polish why is this happening and can it be fixed while on the nail thanks for your help and you do a wonderful job explaining things easy to follow

  • @DeeDeewv if you get a hole, you should be able to shrink it by dipping the orange stick down & pulling up again - kind of like in my Star of Bethlehem marble. My 3 main tips to prevent bubbles would be: make sure there are none in the polish before you dip you nail (you can pop those), dip in & out slowly, and make sure to get rid of any water drops on your nail - if they won't drip off, you can use the corner of a paper towel to absorb them. HTH =)

  • Thank you so much you helped me alot now I can do water marbling can't wait thank you so much again

  • This is very helpful for me.. Thanks so much!
