As far as i can tell he didn't go below low pedal D (5th ledger line) on the Bass Trombone, however he got at least a pedal Bb (6th ledger line) outta the Contrabass Trombone
@pedropedaltones Yes. Look at him. He's in third, presumably with both triggers down. Also, listen to him. It's a C below the stave, yes, but it's not a pedal.
Steven Frank wrote this for both bass trombone or tuba. The tuba part is totally wimpy, because the bass trombone plays the same exact low notes, AND has to tackle all of the notes in the register above C5! For some reason, instead of an A5 for the highest note, the tuba subs an F4 for it. WTF?
Proof enough that bass trombone kicks ass, and that most(if not all) tuba music should have originally been for bass trombone.
there's a lot of stuff the Tuba does the just wouldn't work on a Bass Trombone. Believe it or not the Tuba can actually play quieter than any other instrument in the entire Orchestra (so quiet, that the person playing it can barely hear themself play) It also has particular presence that works much better when the bass line needs to NOT get in the way of the melody. The Bass Trombone and Contrabass too make excellent melodic basses, but aren't as good harmonic basses in some cases.
Yeah, he switches to contra right before the cadenza (at the 4:15 mark) and switches back to his normal bass after the cadenza (at the 5:26 mark).
My favorite part has to be Charlie's "Hee heeeee!" right after the last note. Such a fun and light-hearted piece, it's great that bass trombonists have this to play.
when i saw him perform this piece he didnt pull out the contra bass... but it was still amazing. lol i cant wait for this piece to come in the mail...
Holy F************! That's amazing! I want a Contrabass for my Band, but I can't afford it! I do have my big Doublebass, but I max out and die T.T Well, I do play Tuba part on it, so yeah... Anyway, With the maturity of a 10th grader, I can't help but think of Popplers.
Yeah, He's Good.

He does go below the Pedal D. From 27-30 seconds in, he's playing a Pedal C.

He goes to Pedal C before he pulls out the contra

he actually plays a pedal C (just below 5 lines) in the beginning. I have the music, and it is really crazy.
flambogularity121 1 year ago
@flambogularity121 That's not a pedal. It's just a C. He whips out the pedal C later ;)

@pedropedaltones Well the guy I originally replied to said 'in the beginning'. I'm talking about the very first note, what are you talking about?
elh666 6 months ago
@pedropedaltones Then why reply negatively to me when I'm clearly talking about the beginning? Silly tit.

I really want to play bass trombone but I can't afford one. Really wish I could find someone who would sell for cheap (major) !!
