How does one get a copy of the Original Broadcast? And why doesn't Ian release the video, parts of which are on the poorly edited Slipstream? Ray? You out there?
Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD features concert footage from Tampa 1976, London Hippodrome 1977, Beat Club 1970 plus rare footage from Thick as a Brick/Passion Play tours more info available at Tommygunvideo please see our youtube channel for link/clips/more details
I used to amuse myself by playing the LP at very loud volumes & jamming along on the drumset. I did a decent job as an amateur, but Tull has always inspired me, especially "A." Brilliant. Ian said that he began this work intending it to be a solo album before realizing that he was actually recording a Tull record. That story always makes me laugh.
Great tune but I must add that Mark Craney was simply a superb drummer. No music college attendance just hard work and raw talent. One of the best drummers of all time.
Pic around 7:00... space men in casualwear? Somehow it fits the era, early 1980s. Seems like for the first time in the band's history they must have been listening to A&R promo guys. 'Ian-as-Aqualung' definitely cleaned up... moved w/ the times... no microbes allowed! Guess he rejected all this soon enough.
@Semente200 I ws soooo pissed at him when "A" came out because of the mass personel changeover of the best band I ever heard or he ever had (IMO) that I never gave it a chance. There are some great tracks on "A" but all in all it pales in comparison to hes previous 7 or so albums before that. I later found out the real story behind that changeover & have long forgiven my man IAN:-)
Not very familiar with Jethro Tull, but Mark Craney and whoever is on bass are top rate musicians. RIP Mark Craney- you were an underrated drummer, but one of the best in the business.
@justatuch Dave Pegg on bass. Funny how this band had Mark Craney as a brilliant figure in the jazz rock fusion world, and Eddie Jobson as a towering figure in progressive rock, and Dave Pegg as a mainstay in the British folk rock scene...
I really dig the A album. I say it is the last one that had some downright energetic stuff, even though I do like the albums that followed for about a decade afterward.
awesome video..I have this entire show on an old cassette I don't recall how I acquired it..it was recorded off the king biscuit flower hour...right before aqualung on it it has this awesome baroque esque jam between martin barre and david pegg.
Brings back memories of the Albert Hall show when Eddy played the giant pipe organ during his solo. Does anyone else think that Ian would look a lot better today still wearing a beret rather than the swimming cap he favours?

Additionally, they went into 'Uniform' from here and into Mark Craney's drum solo... posted anywhere?

I used to think like that as well, but with the time i realized that "A" is an excelent album and quite unfairly treated by most of the fans.

Yes I was there - and I remember that - it was a musical highlight of my love - absolutely brilliant theatrics with musicianship to match
