I am for the banning of no books. I believe everything should be available to reference and learn from, even if they're about things you aren't proud of. I imagine that this stems from some sort of budget they have to continue their curriculum, but in that area, if you don't learn about mexican-american history, you're missing out of your local history. I live in Tucson and the matter is not that simple.
The auditors failed to determine much of value. Some classes were teaching out and out racist propaganda, many were not. I know from experience that curricula is very loosely enforced in the schools here.
Something should have been done for sure, but they way they went about it was a complete disaster. Now we have an establishment vs. kids, whites vs. Mexicans type situation. Arguably the worst possible outcome.

Mexico consists of mostly Native Americans, so they know of what it's like to reach near extinction levels (mostly due to diseases from Europeans) in population. I'm sorry that Native Americans further north could not recoup their losses the same way natives in other parts could. However that doesn't mean you should make light on the suffering of others.

I am an Irish-indigenous"native" American. Have learned in school nothing of other races including my Irish race and the majority of my soux(native) tribe. I am for the banning of no books. I believe everything should be available to reference and learn from, even if they're about things you aren't proud of. I imagine that this stems from some sort of budget they have to continue their curriculum, but in that area, if you don't learn about mexican-american history, you're missing out of your local history. I live in Tucson and the matter is not that simple.
The auditors failed to determine much of value. Some classes were teaching out and out racist propaganda, many were not. I know from experience that curricula is very loosely enforced in the schools here.
Something should have been done for sure, but they way they went about it was a complete disaster. Now we have an establishment vs. kids, whites vs. Mexicans type situation. Arguably the worst possible outcome.

@griffbcf Those aren't races, those are nationalities and in the case of Africans it's a continent; in which not everyone is black. Mexico consists of mostly Native Americans, so they know of what it's like to reach near extinction levels (mostly due to diseases from Europeans) in population. I'm sorry that Native Americans further north could not recoup their losses the same way natives in other parts could. However that doesn't mean you should make light on the suffering of others.

I am an Irish-indigenous"native" American. Have learned in school nothing of other races including my Irish race and the majority of my soux(native) tribe. Main race points;African American and Hispanic. I say African American because I know plenty of races(Puerto Rican) that have people who's skin tones are comparable.

Here in Australia, in my last leg of school, the gov't began an initiative to teach the Indigenous Australian stories of the colonisation, and beyond. Until then, we were taught next to nothing about White Australia Policy, or got to read historical accounts of settlers burying babies up to their neck and kicking their ... anyway, though the books made the White Supremacists angry, the knowledge has made Australia stronger, as did Prime Minister Rudd's monumental acknowledgment of that history.
