  • This isn't a new shark species. This is a frilled shark. It is a deep water species. This species has been known by science since the 1800's.

  • lol fake AND LAME

  • First of all its a not a new species! ...the real news story is its a prehistoric shark that was found off the coast in japan...its the first time this fish has been seen in millions of years...to see a live one is unheard of...and instead of letting it live they decide to take it to study it and it dies...people are stupid why not put a tag on it and monitor it...its sad that something should be extinct was killed by the stupidty of man when science could have learned from this thing

  • @Canadianvillan well, through research we find out they only surface when close to death, so a tag would be useless as it would've died whether they caught it or not. maybe now more people would understand and stop calling them stupid for simply trying to learn.

  • That is one fucking sick Shark!

  • wow

  • is devil shark

  • this is not a new discovery! its a frilled shark which belongs to the same family as six and seven gills, it actualy one of the oldest known sharks at around 200M years old. its usualy found in the arctic or in cold/deep water and it eats fish. its strange-looking gills were developed at a time when there was less oxygen in the ocean than there is today. they are not at-all rare, the only reason it was reported is because the japs thought it was a dragon!

  • A rare prehistoric shark, the Deep Sea Frill Shark, appears off the coast of Japan. The Frilled Shark usually inhabits deep waters between 400 and 4200 feet. The eel-like Frilled Shark may be responsible for some 'sea serpent' sightings. They live between 1,968 and 3,280 feet (600 and 1,000 meters) under the water, which is deeper than humans can go

  • Weird its looks unreal

  • lol wtf is this it looks like my teacher mrs. fraziers face

    but cute

  • its so ugly its cute

  • Thaaat Waas UGLYY!

  • cool, it looks like a shark version of a gulper eel

  • In addition to my previous response, the shark was beginning to die when they captured it. The frilled shark lives very deep down and is almost never seen at that depth, the oxygen saturation was definitely too low at the depth it was found at and likely worse in the tank in which it was kept. Since so little is known about these animals, I am not upset that they chose to research it. I just hope that some important knowledge was obtained through this shark that could help save millions more.

  • This is not a new species, this is a frilled shark. It is relatively unchanged over millions of years and they are very rare. This shark died after a few hours of being in the aquarium, like most sharks like this. This is not an eel, and in fact a legitimate shark. The teeth are designed to crush prey similar to the nurse shark, as well as a longer tail to move slowly across the ocean floor. I am not sure off hand when this species was discovered, but I have known of them for over six years.

  • cool.

  • Awesome!

  • 5/5

  • well if this news was on nbc and sad that its a shark then i think it is a shark..

  • that looks like a eel not a shark

  • Amazing.

  • It is called the Frilled Shark

  • This shark was going to die anyway. Don't you see it looks a little weird/tired/almost dead?? That's why someone was able to film it, these kind of prehistoric fishes live way to deep too discover them.

  • those gills make me wanna fucking puke!

  • WTF! holy shit, what's that!? amazing!

  • EVERYONE:the shark died cus the dumb japan people caught it and it wasent used to the new envirornment so it died

  • It died in the interest of Science...they killed it. Why can't we humans let animals live their lives and we learn from them to respect mother nature.

  • @Maltasabiha i think a greater concern would be humans letting fellow humans live the lives they deserve regardless of -fill in the blank-

  • that fish was like 5 billion years!!! go sen man nen!!

  • oh shit

  • just amazing! it's a shame that it died... if they just hadn't tried to capture it!!

  • Perhaps they made a soup with it.

  • LOOOL SOUP !! u jokaa

  • i think the shark thing is pretty sweet.

  • looks like a birth defect. Where are the environment contamination conspiratists ?

  • This is NOT a NEW species of shark! The Frilled Shark is a prehistoric deep water shark. What makes this case so special is that they don't normally come anywhere close to the surface and of course they captured the shark and it died!

  • wow your cool..

  • he probibly saw it on the news i know i did and thats how i know hes right

  • that thing looks so cool, this new shark its like an eel but can be mistaken for a serpent which is awesome. I love it!
