Easier way to take off the top hat with no compressor needed, just take the impact gun with end on the wall. Connected to the top hat nut and simply undo the nut. At worst the strut goes flying.
Dont have a spring compressor? use nylon rope wrapped around the coils 4 times then tied in a good knot. This will keep the spring from popping out and killing your friend.
