  • Does anyone else think that old books smell amazing?

There's a whole variety of different smells. One of the reasons why I don't like ebooks

  • I get the feeling my house won't have visible walls..just bookshelves. xD Hmm we have one hundred years of solitude in the basement, I may just pick it up, my interest is peaked.

  • Sooo jealous.

  • I wish I had that collection. That is my new standard to how big I want my personal collection.

  • That house, must smell amazing.

I would love to wake up in that cozy, warm house, sit by the fireplace with a very good book and a cup of coffee in the most comfortable chair.....

    that, is true paradise

  • I wonder if someone bought all the Harry Potter Items cuz I'd love to see it.

  • I'm guessing he didn't have any friends.

  • Have you any rare occult grimoires?

  • Amazing collection. Have you read (1Q84 by) Haruki Murakami?

  • I hope my collection will be that big one day.

  • You sir are my hero.. Take that husband of mine.. and I thought my 500plus was a great amount.. I can only dream of being as big as this gentleman some day..We are not hoarders, we are collectors of the written word. So many books so little time.

  • You sir are my hero.. Take that husband of mine..

  • If you were to read 2 books a day, every day, it would take 50 years to reach 35,000.

  • do you read harry potter

  • very interesting, but the first thing that comes to mind is hoarder.

  • @meow98 lol.

  • There no such thing as obsessed with books...from war and peace to galactic battlefront I collect all the classics

  • I don`t judge you Joe Perlman. I applaud you.

  • Wouldn't that be the funniest thing if he didn't have Harry Potter in that entire collection.

  • Awesome video, thanks a million books!

Now in no certain order: 1984 (okay, yes, it's my favorite), FAKE, Clifford Irving, Miles From Nowhere, Barbara Savage(don't read the back cover until the end!), Full Tilt, Dervla Murphy, I Caught Flies for Howard Hughes, Ron Kistler, A Confederacy of Dunces, Toole (I got so into Ignatius that I wanted to meet him!!), A One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding, Robert Gover, The Uneasy Chair, Wallace Stegner, The Wanderer, Fritz Leiber - I love $5 per bag!

  • @LuckyGuu A One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding is a trilogy. Also read, Atlas Shrugged (of course) and Missing Beauty, Carpenter. I encourage everyone to read about Howard Hughes!

*You will never stop buying! You may need a stronger house. Q: Where are your favorite "types" of

    places to buy books?

  • I hope he never has to fumigate for dust mites...

  • GOT ABOUT FOUR THOUSAND MYSELF.

    people say...jim, get kimble! NO.

there's something about the book itself..the covers, binding, paper, the smell...nothing can replace it.

  • @JAMESMCCULLA yes! I'm a sucker for a great book jacket and should have moved to NYC directly after HS graduation to make it my 2nd career, along with Bellman! Yes, Bellmen are sexy, if only sexy on the inside!

  • I thought I was bad, I only have 1,500 books and people are amazed when they come over.

  • @CSATexan since my Dad is 86.5 he has lost interest in reading(very sad because he is the one who "imprinted" the love of reading on my soul), anyway, he said I can have all his books..........which I plan to trade for book credit, so expand my collection!

  • @LuckyGuu

I too from time to time loose interest in reading, it only last for a few months.

Are you sure you want to part with those books, I would keep them

  • @CSATexan how many books did you buy this month?

  • @LuckyGuu

This month so far I have

    Bought 4

    Donations 6

  • @CSATexan 4....................that's amazingly low, how come? Lately I've been buying "collectable" paperbacks from 1950-1970s. The covers are great! Have you ever collected any of these? Some are worth $10-$50+! I buy them for 25-100 cents, don't tell anyone.

  • @LuckyGuu

I get into my moods, {translation- I picked up all the cool books at the used book store} In a month or so they will put up some cool ones at the Half Price Books, Goodwill and the library

  • It sort of reminds me of the a scene in Fahrenhiet 451 when the captain calls Montag to the old lady's attic. When Montag enters he sees a collection laid out before him.

  • well, i guess his son and daughter will never have to ask him to get a book for them, cuz he'll probably already have it!

  • i think he probably read all of those books and if he didn't it's not my fault i didn't even watch the video yet

  • God, one poorly placed candle and that place is gone.

  • Ahaa' ma freen'

A'l bet yee hinna got "Thi lyfe an tymes o an enshoar loon!!

    Gordon

  • i'd rather be a bibilomaniac then a drug addict or drunk.

  • I love to read for those moments in a story when it's like a shift in consciousness like a light bulb goes off in your head and you've expanded past your own self to something greater

  • atleast its all organized

  • He's like Don Quixote LOL:-)

  • I adore this video. B&N- please produce more Book Obsessed videos!!

  • I hate it when people call me obsessed with books and CD's.

There is no such thing as obsessed, but passionate. I hate the word obsessed.

  • I dunno...when you have thousands of books you've never read and never will read, yet keep buying more....THAT's Obsessed...

  • @TheUniverse3000 Exactly!! I have over 200 books and my dad says "You shouldn't get any more books." And I say "It's fun reading and collecting!! And what you said really is what I've been trying to say!!! Thank you!! ByEsErS1!1!

  • @TheUniverse3000 But, there is still obsession. Too much love is obsession. Love is sometimes control of feeling.

  • He reminds me of Elinor or Mo in Inkheart!

  • yes!! you are sooo right! elinors house is a place I dreamed of forever.

  • I plan to beat out this collection size throughout the years.

I've had a passion for reading since I can long remember.

  • If it will make you feel any better or worse: If you set out to read one book each week, you'll reach somewhere around 1,000 books in 20 years.

  • Big libraries make a rich life....

    and make moving SUCK!!!!

  • @calebengler LOL!! Soooooo true!! =)

  • i am a book obsessed too. but my collection does not exceed 1000 books because i live in a country where english books are not fully available and there's no way for me to buy via internet.

    i envy you

    best wishes

  • I live in Morocco, you see..

    Take care

  • Joe, I enjoyed your book recommendations a lot. Show more. But by all means, you must open your private collection to other people. 35000 books : you can never finish in a life time. Let us not amass things, not even books, just for the sake of HAVING. We must share!!!! What a treasure you have. Don´t sit on it, OPEN YOUR HOUSE to other booknuts. Best wishes, tina

  • what a good man! In a time of techno gadgets, paper is still the way. I have 700+signed books and it is growing weekly. Love the pad! I will be doing a vid about my "office" soon for YT. Thanx for sharin'.

  • If this was 3 months ago, I have since found an additional 200.

  • So many books, so little time!! (Bn have a thing about the brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao!)

  • A wonderful short--great topic.
