Q. I wonder if you think this might be his year, given some of the really threatening players haven't been doing so well this year.
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, true, Rafa played terribly lately; Soderling is not a threat either. He's got an easy ride to this victory, that's for sure. Djokovic can't play tennis anymore it seems like.
Got to make your own work, please. Respect the players. Obviously Andy is a fantastic player and he's got all the chances to win here. We all know that.

@catlynekeuh That is a RUDE reply, Federer' was just pissed his outdated gamestyle got beat so he went on a mardy getting rude about all the other players. Berdych beat his ass fair and square, simple.
@ArjunJethwa The fact is that federer did praise Berdych but that those journalist like to start something between them. And I really appreciated that Berdych reacted like he did on that.
@catlynekeuh Of course, but journalists are there to get a story, get the low down and push for some responses from players. Especially a shock loss by Federer at Wimbledon.
Federer (as he does when he's winning) could've acted classy and been truthful about his play and put much more emphasis on Berdych playing well. But he does the opposite, deciding to insult other players, sulk with his cap over his face and blame a non existent injury for being hit off the court comprehensively.
@ArjunJethwa Well...I believed he was injured though. But I guess if you are injured you better not say that while you are still in the tournament. Either way the journalists always make a big thing out of it...

This is just ridiculous... Tomas won the match fair and square and the journalists do not even congratulate him, but they are putting him under pressure so he will admit that he is not good but Roger was unlucky. I have great respect for RF, but come on...
the press are misleading Berdych with some of those questions, they are pathetic... they always try to do this to Federer when he loses - especially American journo's
Federer was not physically good in 2010 Wimbledon.. its just a Fact. how else was possible was 1 point from losing 4-6 4-6 4-6 in 1r to Falla, Berdych should behave better and not be so bitter.
@Mirren81 how is the press misleading him exactly? Federer said he was perfectly fine beforehand after the 1st round against Falla and is looking forward to the rest of the tournament. And if you read the transcript of Federers interviews, every question the american 'journo' stated about Federer commenting about his 'injuries' werent misleading at all seeing as thats what Fed said.
Federer is such a crappy loser! He always makes excuses! After his match against Falla he said he felt perfect but when he loses he suddenly has health problems. Even if u have problems you don't have to turn it into an excuse. No players ever feel 100 percent everyone has injuries. Im tired of Federer saying he was hurt, unlucky and that he should have won. What does I should have won even mean? How bout accepting it like a man and giving credit where its due. Bad example for young players!!
If you think about it, I'd be kind of pissed too...it's almost the equivalent of saying "I let him win". And in a way it is an excuse, so you have to see it from his perspective. Tomas played a great game--I watched it.
@aquarianbabe wait wait wait...let me get this straight...are u implying that Tomas can beat Roger Federer when he's on his peek?...i don't think so...and if Fed's not on his peek..then yes who ever he losses too it's his fault not the person who beat him...fed as proven him self millions of times and has shown time after time an again that the only person that can beat him is him self...apart form nadal
@DonxRaul Everyone has their days and there are days when someone is going to be better than someone on or not. Federer doesn't give any credit when credit is due on several occassions. I bet you're gonna say that Djokovic got lucky too. Why can't people accept that Roger IS NOT going to win every match he steps foot in. He is not the incredible freaking hulk. He is a just a man. He needs to give Berdych props. He doesn't have to like losing, but come on. I like Roger, but come on.
@aquarianbabe I see what u're saying..but I think u're kinda missing the point...the argument here is not that he should win every signal match he steps into or that he should win grand slams until the day he die...it's the simple fact that Roger Federer is best tennis player on tour until he quiets ..skill wise and talent wise...no one should really beat him tbh...but they do and that's because Federer can't maintain that kind of level of play that he had back in 2007-2008..because of his age
@aquarianbabe the man's going to be 30 soon...and about Djkovic getting Lucky..the same guy that finally broke the 7 year rain losses to Federer in the US open?..7 year!?..Yeh some tells me he did...7 YEAR!?!?! lol
@DonxRaul He's beaten him a lot of times. Berdych beat him twice in recently history. Soderling has beaten him a ton of times. He's beaten Nadal too, but of course as I said not everyone beats the same person all the time. Roger can still win a bunch of slams because he has, I think the most complete game on the tour. But he will NOT win every time he plays. Djokovic was better at the open this year, just like Berdych was better at Wimbledon.
@aquarianbabe first of all everything u've stated has been recent history..and i've explained exactly why that;s happening...it's because Fed's game has decreased dramatically since 2007-2008 when he was on his peek..hence the people he's lost to since 2008-2009 and onwards doesn't mean that they are better then Fed...cuz when u look at it...they' re pretty simple/average skilled player that haven't coursed problems for Fed in the passed.
@aquarianbabe but ofc like I've said previously...the challenge now for Federer is all about trying keep the that same high level of tennis performance...which ofc is now every hard for him to do because of the injuries and his age (in a sense..he's in a battle within himself to win in every match)...anyway these recent victory are not (apart from 2) grand slam victory..and if there not grand slam victories,, it mean's nothing.
apart from Nadal but he's paid for his victories through the injuries he's received..just because he did have the natural talent to beat Federer and had to make it up for it through physical physic..hence why Nadal's game is now almost Federer like..because he's realized that it's not just all about out hitting more all than other player
after Meltzer match in 4th round: "hinestly now I have no more problems, no strappings so im happy I recovered that", after first round against falla: "So he just played at a higher level than you in the first to sets?" A lot easier to be humble when you win than when you loose ha federer?

I don't think Berdych is cocky, he's just fed up with Federer's interviews lol. That Jimmy Fallon sketch "At the bar with Roger Federer" was hilarious.
"you know Rafa Nadal is my biggest competition...he's a real gentleman off the court you know...as well as a best friend of mine you know...but on the court I crush him like a piece of garbage, I don't care about him...I'd like to see him get hit by the bus...and then the bus go in reverse so there's nothing but a pool of blood and a headband"
@Marceles45 I agree... I mean, why is Federer a bit more happy for this guy? He hasn't won 16 slams. I love federer, but I think he should put it some other way.
I am a very long Federer fan, however Berdych did very very well in this interview.
With regards to Roger saying he's injured....maybe, but I doubt it, he's in a little bit of denial right now, maybe a little bit of gamemanship, but alas too late.
Roger realizes what's what, if he wants to win another couple of majors, He's gotta remember what it was like when he was 21.....And Get that hunger back!
@Tfuchure Roger's sickness and injury. He got sickness several times. MONO. And, the disease of lungs.
2008 that suffers an illness. He has obviously become weak play. The decrease continues.
And, the chronic injury. Back. Waist. In addition, the foot is injury from the tournament of Halle. He was defeated at Lleyton. But, Roger was laughing
Honesty may conflict with humility and generosity sometimes, refraining from speaking your mind is sometimes a form of repectful restrain , not a dishonesty/hypocrisy.
I think a man's generosity shows through when he congratulates his opponent in his worst defeat and refrain from saying things like "if.., I would have won" ..
..
but its very difficult to find such a man with such a generous heart.. I wonder is there ever a sportsman like that .. I would respect such person even if he's not the most successful ..
Well it seems you confuse self-confidence with arrogance.. I think its still possible to be very self-confident and yet not arrogant/cocky..
..
But its very difficult to achieve , only a very self-assured, classy and unintimidated man can be self-confidence without being arrogant in his demeanors..
Its true that there are successful athletes who feeds on a sense of arrogance to fire up their fighting spirit, but i respect those who are able to hold their composure and restrain themselves from disrespect towards opponents..
..
I think an athlete's attitude commands more of my admiration and respect than his winnings..
Well done Thomas. I am a Federer fan but I always believed in Berdych abilities. Thomas is similar to how Federer first started out..has the talent to beat any player..but lacks the consistency and mental strength to last the tournament. I hope Thomas, this is the tournament you fulfill your potential. In this interview the journalist are taking a lot of comment from Roger out of context, urging Thomas to be negative towards Roger. Shame!!! Roger needs to get a new coach, get the motivation up!!!
this guy just thinks hes better than fed, really funny, berdych has like 0 grand slams but he thinks hes better still, really funny, he has like 5 titles in his whole life, and fed has like 62... idk...
federers always making excuses, why cant he just admit he was beaten by the better player. Tommy is so sweet, you can tell he just wants to have a go. lol. 1:48 is well funny.
I think its the interviewers' fault. They're twisting Federer's words so much and making him sound like such a bad sportsman when he is know to be one of the best in the game. Yes, he said that he had some injuries, but he also said that it was no excuse and that Berdych played a great match. When he said unlucky he meant on some points and the injuries and everything, he basically meant unlucky that he couldn't play his best, which he wasn't, but that doesn't mean Berdych didn't also play well
OUTTA BOY, BERDYCH! fucking yes, roger made up excuses! that's all he does nowadays. fucking sore loser, i used to be a big fan but now i really hate him, how dare he take away credit from berdych with stupid stuff like "bad luck"! and if you're injured, call the fucking trainer, he's there for a reason and there's no shame in that. now we see the true face of roger, so nice in victory but then such a coward in defeat. what a shame. fucking sore loser. retire from tennis already you pussy!
@Elwink oh yes i've been listening. though you have a point, i really don't sound like a former fan. I used to love federer, and i admit his best years are behind him, but I can't remember one time (lately, when he's losing to everybody) he said "I was outplayed"... or something of that sort. He just gives excuses every single time.... believe me, i wish he didn't, i trully did. But he can't seem to be honest with himself. He could just say "i lost because the other guy played better". that's it
@DomingosSC he does say often that 'he played better than me', this is only obvious actually. Many tennis fans are worried about what a player says and especially how he says it. When someone is so confident in his own ability and knows at almost every rally he could have done better, then it's normal not to say someone is just better to me. But he does say the opponent played better, which is just an obvious thing.
@Elwink yes it's obvious but the way roger says it often denotes a little indiference to that point, like "the other guy played better BUT....." something. it's part of being a tennis player, making sacrifices like playing through pain and stuff like that. And one thing that makes for a great player is NOT mentioning those things when you lose. But if you're in pain, why even play? because if you play despite not being 100%, when you lose it does sound like an excuse (like in this case).
@DomingosSC Why don't you listen to what Federer actually said instead of geting it from this reporter who is obviously trying to get under Berdych's skin?
@ThaaWhiteShadow I did, I watched the video from the conference on the ATP website. The reporter didn't lie about anything, Federer did say those things (among other stuff, yes, but he did say them).
@LeftLaneMerges most often he says he plays bad, but he does like to look on the positive side. Unlucky is a normal way of saying things after a loss, he also admits Berdych has become much more consistent and so he's a better player, full of facts
That was something people tended to forget but was also said in Federer's pressconference that day (about Andy Murray). So proves once more that he does respect everybody

What Berdych was saying was, "Say whatever you like as long as I'm enjoying the tournament!"
The 16-time GS winner should learn to accept defeat graciously and learn to give opponents credits when necessary! Class act!

The rallies were like slow motion. Fed is injured. He will destroy him if they meet a month from now.
dodododa 1 year ago
Haha.. I can tell the reporters are trying to stir the waters to fish for some spicy comments from Berdych ..

Honesty may conflict with humility and generosity sometimes, refraining from speaking your mind is sometimes a form of repectful restrain , not a dishonesty/hypocrisy.
uuduu7 1 year ago
I think a man's generosity shows through when he congratulates his opponent in his worst defeat and refrain from saying things like "if.., I would have won" ..
..
but its very difficult to find such a man with such a generous heart.. I wonder is there ever a sportsman like that .. I would respect such person even if he's not the most successful ..
uuduu7 1 year ago
@uuduu7 Champions have to be self confident to the point of arrogance. Any niceness in interviews is purely acting.
dodododa 1 year ago
@dodododa
Well it seems you confuse self-confidence with arrogance.. I think its still possible to be very self-confident and yet not arrogant/cocky..
..
But its very difficult to achieve , only a very self-assured, classy and unintimidated man can be self-confidence without being arrogant in his demeanors..
..

@dodododa

Well donde Berdych!! ;)

this guy just thinks hes better than fed, really funny, berdych has like 0 grand slams but he thinks hes better still, really funny, he has like 5 titles in his whole life, and fed has like 62... idk...
partyman1792 1 year ago
@partyman1792 The point is Fed should be honest about why he lost. We all know what Fed can do if he is mentally switched on.
Just dont give crap excuses for loosing, and don't lie to your fans.
cathwitness 1 year ago 2
@partyman1792 He didn't say that he is always better then Federer, he said that he was better TODAY!

federers always making excuses, why cant he just admit he was beaten by the better player. Tommy is so sweet, you can tell he just wants to have a go. lol. 1:48 is well funny.
well done Tom

I think its the interviewers' fault. They're twisting Federer's words so much and making him sound like such a bad sportsman when he is know to be one of the best in the game. Yes, he said that he had some injuries, but he also said that it was no excuse and that Berdych played a great match. When he said unlucky he meant on some points and the injuries and everything, he basically meant unlucky that he couldn't play his best, which he wasn't, but that doesn't mean Berdych didn't also play well
tennishb09 1 year ago
@tennishb09 Yup he definately was twisting the context and emotion behing Fed's words. Poor Berdych fell for it.
cathwitness 1 year ago
@cathwitness Yeah exactly, and Berdych was even a bit surprised, he was like 'that's the firsr time I've heard of him having a reaction like that'.
tennishb09 1 year ago
What lousy questioning! Well played Tomas. No one can take this victory from you or downplay it.
gulibbi 1 year ago
It's actually quite pathetic what the journalist does, downplaying Berdych' victory more so than Federer does
Elwink 1 year ago
Oh, the journalists are just trying to create something hear, quite pathetic, the way they turn words or underline them from a 10-minute interview.

DomingosSC 1 year ago
@DomingosSC Doubt you have been a fan of Fed, because you clearly don't listen to his words and in the way he says it.
Elwink 1 year ago
@Elwink oh yes i've been listening. though you have a point, i really don't sound like a former fan. I used to love federer, and i admit his best years are behind him, but I can't remember one time (lately, when he's losing to everybody) he said "I was outplayed"... or something of that sort. He just gives excuses every single time.... believe me, i wish he didn't, i trully did. But he can't seem to be honest with himself. He could just say "i lost because the other guy played better". that's it
DomingosSC 1 year ago
@DomingosSC he does say often that 'he played better than me', this is only obvious actually. Many tennis fans are worried about what a player says and especially how he says it. When someone is so confident in his own ability and knows at almost every rally he could have done better, then it's normal not to say someone is just better to me. But he does say the opponent played better, which is just an obvious thing.
Elwink 1 year ago
@Elwink yes it's obvious but the way roger says it often denotes a little indiference to that point, like "the other guy played better BUT....." something. it's part of being a tennis player, making sacrifices like playing through pain and stuff like that. And one thing that makes for a great player is NOT mentioning those things when you lose. But if you're in pain, why even play? because if you play despite not being 100%, when you lose it does sound like an excuse (like in this case).
DomingosSC 1 year ago
@DomingosSC Why don't you listen to what Federer actually said instead of geting it from this reporter who is obviously trying to get under Berdych's skin?
ThaaWhiteShadow 1 year ago
@ThaaWhiteShadow I did, I watched the video from the conference on the ATP website. The reporter didn't lie about anything, Federer did say those things (among other stuff, yes, but he did say them).
DomingosSC 1 year ago 2
very well said Tomas!
Fed always says that he got "unlucky" when he loses. He never admits he playes badly. He's such a sore loser!
LeftLaneMerges 1 year ago
@LeftLaneMerges most often he says he plays bad, but he does like to look on the positive side. Unlucky is a normal way of saying things after a loss, he also admits Berdych has become much more consistent and so he's a better player, full of facts
Elwink 1 year ago
@LeftLaneMerges He does acknowledge his opponents. He should just admit that he is mentally off now, and take a short break to recharge his focus.
