  • I've never really heard this song, never really heard much of Willie Nelson. But this is pure poetry. <3

  • This is one of my favorite youtube videos.

  • The Red Headed Stranger is one of the best albums of all time. I couldn't even begin to guess at how many times I've listened to it in its entirety. This song listened to in the context of the entire album takes on a new meaning than just listening to it separately. It stands on its own but as a part of the album it stands out.

  • so many good songs by Willie Nelson - but this (IMHO) is by far his finest. Pure, simple, perfect.

  • This song overcomes Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird to be the ultimate Cowboy farewell soundtrack...

  • nobody can do this like willie

  • @FlyboyLWB

    AMEN.........

    Hwaj5300

  • love is like a dying ember, and only memories remain, this is the straight proof, and no one on this earth will ever change my mind on that.

  • Found more info re origin of Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. At Wikipedia: Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is a song written by songwriter Fred Rose. Originally performed by Roy Acuff, the song was later recorded by Willie Nelson as part of his 1975 album Red Headed Stranger. Both the song and album would become iconic in country music history, and jump start Nelson's success as a singer and recording artist. (He had thus far been primarily successful as a songwriter for other artists.)

  • @lovingtheoldtunes

Fred Rose Was A writer of great songs

  • I love this song...

  • @LoreneVan

    Well so do I

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • I have a question for Willie fans. Why does he now sound like he's trying to rush through his classics? Song meant to be sung and now half-spoken.

  • @captainamerica1967us I don't see it that way Cap'n....it's a song and he sings it the way HE thinks how it SHOULD sound. I've been listening to this particular version for years now. I happen to think it's the best version of this little gem. Peace.

  • Wielki talent

  • grrreat song, in my opinion :)

  • See how great his performance is when he sticks to the written beat/tempo?! Simply one of Willie's best!

  • We played this song and "Yellow Rose of Texas" at my great-grandmother's funeral.

  • @IndalecioCeleste

    I have family in Texas

Sorry About you Grandmother....I am sure she would have loved it

  • That was aewsome!

  • I have always liked him and his guitar playing is so unique. Brit1234ish

  • Kiss - keep it simple, like this song, whittled to the essence.

  • my grandfather taught me this song when he gave me his guitar a few years ago. now his alzheimer's is so bad that this is one of the only things he remembers about me..

  • @esfc137

    Sad...But good he remembers this

    Hwaj5300

  • @esfc137 thats like....crazy sad. im crying.

  • yhey played this song at my best friend of 15 years' funeral, and it will forever be in my heart.

  • Happy 78th Birthday today, Willie!!! April 30th, 2011

  • 6 people think Shania Twain has talent.

  • This is the best Willie, always loved you and your singing.

  • @morrisgillum

Never been his biggest fan ....But I stand behind this one

  • @morrisgillum

Never been his biggest fan ....But I stand behind this one

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • I think this is the best version as well...of course I played it so often it got embedded in my brain that way, so no other version seems 'right'.....this lost love meeting in heaven hits home for a lot of blue eyed folks...I would imagine... I think it's about the tone of the voice having the believable amount of sorrow and loneliness along with the perfect slightly slower tempo. You're a great artist, Willie Nelson. Love ya.

  • With respect to the rest, this version cannot be beaten, bettered, whatever!

  • @wookyhollow

    I agree Wooky I agree

    hwaj5300

  • @wookyhollow the illustrations are methodically crippled to me. I grew up with this song as it picked cords through my soul. I could not understand the illustrator and what he wanted the flow to show.

  • willie is so bad ass, when he got busted for weed, they gave him a $100 fine and he had to sing this song in court.

  • Willie Nelson, the gray haired stranged. Iove ya Willie, at any age.

  • Love this version by Willie.

  • for me is this the BEST version of this song

  • Willy has a heart as big as Texas !

  • Love this song! I think it is a very sweet song.

  • in the opening you for the "her"..In the twilight glow is see her.....blue eyes crying in the rain.

  • @ralromero

Listened twice ....Cant hear the word "her" although I must admit it make sense to me

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 umm actually your lyrics are right. in this version Willie doesn't say 'her' not startin shit....but just saying

  • @hwaj5300 He does say "her". Quietly, but it's there.

  • @ralromero

Listened again ......Heard it this time..But thought it was poetic license And he was just adding a syllable to the word " See"

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • As a rocker I always absolutlely hated country,..but... Willie is f n awesome,..noone holds a candle to this guy

  • @discerdan

I like any thing that sounds good to my ears

Not a fan ...(meaning They could not put a bad record or performance) except Tony Williams .

but to my ears this is by far the best version of this song for sure.....

    Thanks Hwaj5300

  • I love the gitarsolo!!!

  • umm...the eyes looked brown to me.

  • @CountryBuff08

Ok ....but you are much more than a country buff

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • It was this song converted that me to country.

  • I love this song!!!! And, your video is very different, I almost forgot what song I was listening to......almost distracting---but in a good way. Like reading a book and getting distracted by the great smell of the print and paper.

  • Man I Love This 44. And 6 People Agreed To Eat 1 Of My 6 Bullets. Ain't No Rain But Your Free To Cry

  • @cooljon1111

Not too sure of what you mean....Except you love this....And i hope you mean the video also

    Thanks for your comment

    Hwaj5300

  • This song has never failed to bring tears to my eyes.

  • @MrCowboyJesus

I thinks this has it hands down over all other versions including "Elvis"

Thanks for the feature on your channel I appreciate it

    Hwaj5300

  • This is how Country IS heard.

  • @katey1dog

    You betcha

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • This is my favourite song of all times and has been since I first heard it at 16 yrs old, brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Seen Willie in concert & the live version had the same effect. Amazing voice.

  • @Nettiekins1959

Yep...But it must be "Willie's" version

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • Damn, I have to learn this one on the guitar. I'm gonna have to learn the solo too! Thanks for the upload......freakin awesome!!!

  • @phineasgauge69

Thanks much....For the comment & enthusiasm both

    I agree it's great

    Hwaj5300

  • @phineasgauge69 i play it c,f & g on bass

  • This is one of the mot underrated songs by Willie. His voice is so understated and simple that it is probably lost to the new generations of country music fans. I think of my Dad whistling these verses-so it will remain one of my all time favorites!

  • @soxfan1ful

As I said in my opening I believe this to be his best.

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • Ok my research is going to pretty much leave this up to how the listener

portrays this in his mind...The last time this song was played was in a movie

with Wille called "The Red Headed Stranger" and it was about a man who killed

his wife and was on the run...As everything in life we all have different opinions about.

And this song will also be one of them...Others sang this song as well and I will let you know if I come up with any other stories about the song. Dating back to the writer.

  • @GaCountryGirl024 But we know the missing verse, 'Now my hair is turned to silver, All my life I've loved in vain. I can see her star in Heaven, Blues eyes crying in the rain.' Giving the impression that a love has been lost (in whatever way, for what ever reason) and now comes the reminiscing. 'One day when we meet up yonder...' seems to be telling us he thinks/accepts they'll meet again in Heaven and be together for eternity (In a land that knows no parting)

  • @GaCountryGirl024 Best wishes, GaCountryGirl024, I know what this song means to you (Just like it means so much to me) I sometimes wonder why the trivialists seem to attempt to demean a great song with their constant dissecting, etc. Can't they just enjoy it, love it for what it is?

  • @GaCountryGirl024 One other who recorded this was Hank Williams (Sr.). In fact, he might have been the first.

  • Ok....The Meaning Of This Song Is: NOT A GIRL DYING....IT'S ABOUT A LOST LOVE

Even Though Love That Once Flourished It Can Fade And Die And He Is Remembering The Good Times...And Longs To Be Back With Her Or Be Capable Of Experiencing That Pleasure And That Deep Love Again. He Also Is Saying That Love

Is Like A Dying Ember And Only Memories Remain Not Anything About Death. Remember They Kissed GoodBye & That Was Not A Dead Girl He Was Kissing.

"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" They Broke Up...

  • Comment removed

  • Who said anything about a girl dying? The sentence says when we kissed g'bye and parted? And he then says they would never meet again. Love is like a dying ember and only memories remain Ok so maybe a couple who broke up and Blue Eyes is crying in the rain. This song reached the pop charts at #21 and the Country Charts at #1 His 1st Hit as a Country Performer. Willie won a Grammy for Best Male Vocal in 75. It was also the Last Song that Elvis Presley Sang On His Piano Before He Died.

  • @GaCountryGirl024

Prezactly (precisely/exactly) GACG. Who said anyone died? He states in the song, 'When we kissed goodbye and PARTED' So it wud seem 2b clear that 1 left the other for whatever reason, and he knows he's never gonna see her again.

Could have been a teenage affair, a guy off to war, an illicit liaison. But this was the song that set Willie on the road to singing stardom after years as a songwriter for others.

  • @GaCountryGirl024 It did pretty well for a song the record executives said wouldn't work as a single since it was just a guitar playing and singing, pretty well indeed.

  • @swsanders Fred Rose wrote this song and Roy Acuff and Hank Williams

both sang it but it was Willie that made the music charts when he sang it and

it has been a favorite of mine for a long time as i am a "Blue Eyed Country Girl"

  • @GaCountryGirl024

Hey Blue eyes .....Just listing to the song and you will know it was Willy Version that charted

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 Yes i made that statement in my comment.

Roy Acuff and Hank Williams sang it and it neverhit the

charts it was Wilie Nelson singing it that made it popular!

He made the song what it is today and Willie no matter

how old he gets he keeps us on our toes as he keeps

on singing...Thanks for the comment. *Country Girl*

  • hwaj5300:

Thanks For Posting This Song...It Is Truly One Of His Best!!

  • Willie doesn't know how to do bad He is so talented and has seen others come and go and he still Remains and always will...He is Legendary and will go down in History as one of the Best...Such A Sweet Soul. Love You Willie Keep On Doing what you Do Best! This is one of My Favorites And yes I Have Blue Eyes. He is Singing To my Heart.. He's been up and he's been down but no matter where he is in Life he goes On & On...I will always be hear to Listen Too!!

    Hugs Willie...

    Ga Country Girl.

  • @GaCountryGirl024

According to "jakedeparent" it is ....so I will believe him. However For the life of me I don't see where he gets from my video ......That it is about a girl you want to sleep with.

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300

He is saying it's about a Girl dying and "NOT" a Girl you want to Sleep with I however disagree it's about a Lost Love And The Embers Dying Of A Love Affair. hwaj5300 Plase put my comment about Wille being a Legend in his Time in the Highest Voted Comments. Guess we all can't be right. The Song says he kissed her goodbye and parted.Love doesn't last for us all...Could be she was dying and they kissed g'but and parted. I'll have to research thid snd let ys knoe.

    Thanks

    Country Girl

  • Comment removed

  • @GaCountryGirl024 I disagree about him not doing a bad song. I looked at two other versions of him doing this song on here and this is by far the best of the three, the other two are very dry and droll.

  • @mollymitch1

Thanks Mollymitch........I love the sound not necessarily the artist of all That I post.......And I don't think There is such an artist that can do no wrong

    Hwaj5300

  • @GaCountryGirl024

    Wow....A blue eyed Georgia Peach

    Thanks again

    Hwaj5300

  • hawj5300 you are right .there is nothing wrong with the song .i remember it coming out .you couldnt get the record .everyone was after it .it is exactley as you have it thank you for bringing these memories back to me.

  • @azaz09095

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • This video is kind of missing the point. The song is about a woman who died. Listen to the original. It's not about some chick you wish you could still sleep with...

  • @jakedparent

Ok Jake ..... I'LL agree ....if you tell me where you got the idea this video has anything to do with a girl you wish to sleep with. Are you reading something into it that is not there??? Thanks for the comment did not know it was about a dead girl

    Hwaj5300

  • @hwaj5300 It's just that all the girls are like models and the guy pictured looks like some frat boy who wants to get laid lol.

  • @jakedparent

It's About A Love Affair That Has Ended...

Not A Girl That Has Died...

He Is Not Kissing A Dead Girl.

    Country Girl

  • @GaCountryGirl024

Just listen to the original version of the song (sung by Roy Acuff or the version by Hank Williams). There is a verse in it that Willie doesn't sing in his about how the woman is in heaven.

"Now my hair is turned to silver

all my life i've loved in vain

I can see her star in heaven

blue eyes cryin' in the rain"

Just to put it out there, I think Willie's version is one of the greatest pieces of music that's ever been made...

  • @jakedparent

Thanks for that jake But I still insist .....I DID WILLIE'S VERSION. I do not have any Roy Acuff albums but do have 24 of Hank Williams Greatest hits ...The song is not on it .Thanks for the information

    Hwaj5300

  • @jakedparent

    Hi Jake,

I can't find a version by Roy Acuff if you can please send it to me.

I would like to hear it...

I have seen the words to the 2nd verse and still say that the song

is left to the imagination of the listener...

It's that Kiss part when they parted that keeps me thinking about a

lost love...But then when they will stroll hand and hand again where

    land knows no partiing...

    Country Girl

  • @jakedparent - I agree that this is a magnificent song, but it always bothers me that he left out that important verse and I wish he had included it. I love the image that Fred Rose conjured up, in that verse, of an old man who has loved a woman all his life, gazing up at the night sky and finding her star. It provides a nice and essential lead-up to the last verse, wherein the two lovers are united forever in heaven.

  • @jakedparent - Heaven, with a capital H. Sorry.

  • Willie smoked one of the great joints in history. Playing at the White house as a guest, Willie couldn't find a good place. He eluded Secret Service, found his way onto the roof and puffed away like Nero fiddlin ! Who was highest in the land that day !

  • @daddyoj

I didn't know that (shades of Gracie Slick)

    Thanks

    HWAJ5300

  • @daddyoj

Willie Was Then...And Still Is Today If You Think About It...

    Ga Country Girl.

  • i agree this is his best forr surrre

  • Long Live WILLIE NELSON

  • @leftfootlouie Today is his 77 birthday! He,s still going strong:-)

  • @dagny1207

    GOD Bless Willie Nelson

    Hwaj5300

  • I am not a 'country' music fan, but this guy is great... A master...

  • I am not a fan ..Just believe in this version of this song

  • Wonder why he seldom, if ever, sings the 2nd verse:

'Now my hair has turned to silver

All my life I've loved in vain

I can see her star in Heaven

Blue eyes crying in the rain'

Very underrated, deserves the appreciation he never gets

  • @GaCountryGirl024

Hi gacountrygirl024 I thought this was the whole version... When I started first with you tube it was to be my thing to put the words in each song.. But being as bad a speller that I am..... and how hard (almost impossible to correct) .... And having someone dwell on that kind of ruffled my feathers as i felt they were missing my intent... so I stopp it now I just try to make them interesting...

    Thanks
