  • Would Butch Johnson's catch be legal today?

  • By the way, if Butch Johnson had dropped the ball after crossing the goal, all he had to do was pick it up, which he did(can we say" fumble")....also, in all the years since that play, no one has made a big deal about that play...Denver had Tom Jackson and Lyle Alzzado-two guys that were very vocal, so if they never said a thing about the play, then you know all was right with the world-nuff said-RIP lyle.

  • By the way, if Butch Johnson had dropped the ball after crossing the goal, all he had to do was pick it up, which he did.

  • Back then all the ball had to do was cross the goalline...Some of you are showing your age...That "football move" stuff started about 25 years after that catch...You see the ref standing right there.

  • Man, this is the day and age when pro football was still great. All the rivalries, the comebacks, the guts, mature men not 30 year old kids.

.....just look at what a laughing-stock pro football has become....might as well be watching the NBA.

  • Haha that's exactly why I looked this up. He didn't make a football move so in turn did not complete the process of the catch. Gimme a break!

  • Butch Johnson didn't 'complete the process' on that catch. Replay that SB!

  • Butch Johnson's great catch would not have been a catch under today's rules.

  • @kzimmerman63 that is so true especially after Calvin Johnson's touchdown catch was overruled on Sunday... Damn good post youngster...

  • he said stallblack it stalback

  • Seeing the Cowboys players carry Tom Landry off the field is a great image...

  • Ah plzz Dallas cowboys yeah ya got a gr8t history but ya still so annoyiN Lol!

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA COWBOYS!!!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song in the background?

  • I am glad you guys kicked their ass you were fortunate it wasn't the Raiders instead because you would have lost.

  • Anybody who is a Cowgirl fan is a front-runner

  • thats true i am a runner and im usually in front

  • Cowgirl? idk. All I know is we are a cowBOYS fan bitch. Go to the country side to look for cowgirls in the bars. You'll find a lot of hot ones. In football we are Cowboys fan.

  • it was Mike Montler

  • yea the dalas cowboys are the champions fuckin donkeys of denver

  • lol

  • Butch Johnson. The most famous incomplete pass in Super Bowl history.

    (Until Jackie Smith anyway)

  • No, that pass was CLEARLY completed. He caught it, pulled it in and crossed the goal line. The moment he crossed the goal line it was a TD.

  • You're right. At the time all he had to do was cross the goal line with the ball in his possession. Today, he would have do that and maintain control once he hit the ground. The rule was changed because of plays like this.

  • I didn't know that, thanks for clarifying that. It was one hell of a catch.

  • Anybody know if Broncos beat the Steelers to get to the SB? Was this a cinderella team? where were the Raiders, steelers and dolphins in the playoffs?

  • @quincee33

They beat Pittsburgh in the first round and then beat the Raiders. Both of those games were played at Denver, and, if I remember correctly, Pittsburgh and Oakland were not at full strength in either of those contests.

As for Miami, they barely missed the playoffs. They were beaten out by the Baltimore Colts on the final day of the season.

  • @quincee33 actually they beat oakland 20-17 to reach the superbowl that year, but prior to that they beat the steelers in the playoffs as well. miami finished 10-4 that year, but missed the playoffs and so did the steelers, but oakland was 11-3 while denver finished that year 12-2.

  • Yes. Denver beat the Steelers in the divisional playoffs.

  • Thanks for posting this.. does anyone have the 1/2 time show on tape? My uncle was playing with Pete Fountain's Jazz club at 1/2 time that day and I can't find it anywhere

    thanks

  • Were gonna beat Carolina!!!!!!!!
