I think best tempo is relative to the listener age. Our brain is faster when younger and everything seems to be too slow (see car drivers at different ages).
Kirkpatrick or some authority says somewhere that we play early music too slow as if giving it meaning.seems our rushed age would speed things up .I no longer know wht to believe .This tempoi have never heard in these Goldbergs .ave to hear the rest!
Alas, there will never be another Landowska. But that makes her having been amongst us all the more blissful. Thanks for posting this. Truly transports one into a better world.
@BeckyBarnett Well, actually little is know as to how fast baroque keyboard music should be played. There were no metronomes these days. Play it your own way, at your own speed, and have others say whether they like it or not, but let nobody say s/he knows the right way to play it.
superb!

The other version posted on Youtube has a less harsh, less trebly sound - but the interpretation is always admirable.

Harpsichord was meant to be slow. Glenn Gould sped it up, but it raised controversy with the purists. You might want to check it out.

@BeckyBarnett Compare Gould when he played young and old. He slowed down too and it is nice (and I'm not that old yet).

@Steinbach1984 Well, actually, I'm not telling anyone the "right way to play it," so calm down.

So slow? Only if you are impatient, I think.
