everyone but omar and cedric is just a bloated studio musician... they could literally be anyone. someone said that it's a two-man show. that's right. they're the two writing all of it. it was much better when they were stealing the spotlight from just two other people... it doesn't look quite so bad when you only ignore the bassist and the drummer... this is like watching bands play on snl. i'm just like "oh... you brought a whole band with you... you shouldn't have.... really."
I love music, and i tried to listen to the mars volta before. But even as my tastes have matured and on the 3rd listen, this still sounds like auditory insanity to me.
God, this is the best TMV I've ever seen. Cedric's vocals are the best I've ever heard, and if only John was there it would be perfect, but Deantoni does a good job.

I was surprised to learn that there are a lot of rednecks in Portland as well. It's probably not very different from the music scene in the town I live in. Mediocre hip-hop scene, decent folk/rock scene, reggae etc. Like most smallish college towns really.
TMV is best heard with their studio work. NOT their live performance. but once you know what TMV is , it makes their live performances ten times better

So ya, been a looong at the drive-in/mars volta/omar fan. But when I hear live versions of this song - which is bad ass - Adrian is always playing the wrong side of the clave. (This will go over the heads of those who don't understand clave with afro cuban/latin music, which is fine) But he is playing 2/3 clave and it is clearly 3/2. It always sticks out like a sore thumb to me. So yeah, I just needed to get that off my chest. :)

@4skin Good for you. That is a moot point. I like them. They aren't the best band I've ever heard either. What do you have going on in Portland these days? A bunch of granolas playing freak folk? That was the scene there last time I checked. Unless you are into something that is so interesting. I doubt that. It sounds like you probably listen to hip hop of some kind. I"m sure the scene of that is pitiful in Portland. Keep trying though.

@subsamadhi I am a fan o music (all!)Currently listening to primus,tool,soundgarden,rage,audioslave,streetsweepersocialclub,slipknot,perfect circle. I do listen to all types though but actually very little in the way of hip-hop. If you like this band the Portland scene is full of this type of stuff! TONS!

@4skin yeah, that's cool. I have never been there actually. I was just going on what friends have told me about the music scene there. I was surprised to learn that there are a lot of rednecks in Portland as well. It's probably not very different from the music scene in the town I live in. Mediocre hip-hop scene, decent folk/rock scene, reggae etc. Like most smallish college towns really.

So ya, been a looong at the drive-in/mars volta/omar fan. But when I hear live versions of this song - which is bad ass - Adrian is always playing the wrong side of the clave. (This will go over the heads of those who don't understand clave with afro cuban/latin music, which is fine) But he is playing 2/3 clave and it is clearly 3/2. It always sticks out like a sore thumb to me. So yeah, I just needed to get that off my chest. :)
