Heard on the grapevine that many established singers in Hindi at that time felt threatened by the entry of Yesudas and lobbied against him. Apparantly Yesudas didn't do much Hindi songs after that.

i dont think thats quite true. At any point of time since 1950s Kishore Rafi Hemant Talat Manna Dey have coexisted, and none of them have ever lobbied against each other. So there is no question of any such thing against Yesudas. He is also a good singer, no doubt.

The Hindiwalas could never accept the fact that a south Indian could sing so beautifully. They played all the dirty tricks that they could at that time to keep him out of the Hindi film industry.

In Malayalam he has been the number one singer for more than 40 years. In south india too...But in Hindi, he never got many chances

The truth is that hindi film industry does not very often produce songs like these which need to be sung by a person of Yesudas' calibre. Most of the time the range of the film songs they produce can be sung by a good club singer.

The fact that there were many attempts in Bollywood to sideline him at that time is an open secret. The egoistic people in the hindi film industry could never accept that a South Indian could sing so beautifully.
