shut the fuck up u cry baby bitches. these kids are commiting crimes and rob people blind, may b even kill some one. and ur worried because they get sweared at? thats whats wong with our country every one has equal rights even if they rape someone. fuckin hippies.EYE FOR AN EYE OUR COUNTRY WOULD BE BETTER. THUMBS UP IF U AGREE!!!
@Surpyful Those shows are unfortunately broadcasted here in Canada, but they are becoming less and less popular, and hardly anyone behaves like that. As in military brainwashing, I mean that you are frequently brainwashed to follow orders without questioning.
@Surpyful It is true. In Canada we have MUCH greater respect for people and the way they are. We don't mock anyone or judge anyone, unlike those spoiled kids on those brainwashing Disney Channel shows. We accept people for who they are, while you rude Americans talk behind people's backs and diss them. We actually give a shit about human rights here. Are you even in the military? If you are, I'm sure that you've had too much brainwashing.
@Surpyful this is fucking youtube. i have a fucking right to type in any manner i please to. first of all, i live in canada, and in canada we actually have consideration for the feeling of others, therefore these programs are almost non-existent. they are substituted for therapeutic recovery programs that emphasize the importance of the paths you take, not obeying orders and saying "sir". you fucked up yanks think you are SO polite
@djsandra Why don't we just hold their little hands all the way to the pen? Brilliant. More of that liberal, hug-it-out bullshit that has gotten us in the mess were in. The reality is that the majority of these kids' problems are caused by not having a solid male role model in their lives, thanks to the degradation of the traditional family unit. This program provides that, at least for a brief period of time. Sounds like you could use a few weeks of "treatment" to clue you in to reality.
@txfirefighter80 first of all, where I live (which happens to be canada) these institutions are frowned upon, and are hardly used. the court can not order you to one of these brothels. in fact, they are seen as an infringement of a youth's right not to be subject to cruel and unusual punishment. instead, we use therapeutic homes and programs to guide them to better choices. can you explain to me why us canadians are so much more educated and polite? shut up, you authoritarian fuck up
@djsandra1 " Can you explain to me why us canadians are so much more educated and polite? Shut up, you authoritarian fuck up"
You're definitely not either of those things, based on the above quote from your response. You are, in fact, the product of a nanny state upbringing which has crippled your ability to comprehend reality. "...not to be subject to crul and unusual punishment..."??? Really?! That's your definition of cruel and unusual punishment? It's no wonder Canada is a joke.
@txfirefighter80 Canada is a joke? excuse me? I just recently visited the U.S., and I was surprised how overweight, uncultured, and rude Americans were. Hardly anyone said please or thank you at all, and me and my family were surprised to see how overweight these pigs were. In Canada that would not be acceptable. Speaking of my insult to you, you Americans say things like that much more. I have a right to get angry when some one like you supports these whorehouses.
@txfirefighter80 Ur a fucking cunt! Why don't you go to burgur kiong or KFC grap 5 double-downs (Which were banned in Canada BTW) and chill out. U know we're better than you. It's the truth you must know. OMG!!! You have a big army, a first black president, good sports teams. But in reality you guys all suck. Well most of you and your one of them losers. Go die in a fucking hole!
fuck you all who support this animal house! these unfortunate teens need some sort of
hobby or motivating academic program to help them succeed in life.... you military grunts think you are better than everyone when you are really just uneducated
In actual Military bootcamp, they're not allowed to swear, or beat the shit out of you. But in juvenile corrections bootcamp, both of the above mentioned happens regularly. Quite a few kids have literally been put in the hospital and have been beaten to death by these "Detention Officers" who deserve to be in prisons themselves. I had friends who went to bootcamp, got out, and just went right back in because they didnt give a fuck. It only toughened them up and made them even harder.
Hi Matthew, I don't know if Virginia still has this program. The story was shot in the early 90's as part of a series, to drum up ratings for the May Book. MTV made a huge impact on TV News in the 80's and 90's, and sadly continues today, thus the fast paced montage at the start of the story. It"s an effort to make up for the fact that there is no information in the piece. I shot many stories in prisons State, Federal and on death row ,The prison guards have a tough job, good luck
I wonder, do you have to be in the military to be one of these drill instructors?and if not where and how can you get the training to be a drill instructor there?
Umm, I'm sorry, that looked nothing like basic, we were on the ground much more than that. They should have sent all those people to Benning, or Parris Island for some real boot camp.
I'll admit that most of the kids who get sent to places like this need a good asskicking. But these teen bootcamps have been shown to be very abusive time and time again. I agree with billybassman21.
@AresCassell Most of these kids are pre-adult court or minor offences that just piled up under the 'they got issues'. Troubled kids generally need help, this does help give them the wake up call and you know what? I'd rather take a few weeks of getting yelled at rather than risk getting shanked, beat up or raped in prison thank you.
@JackJivewriter I understand where you are coming from but abuse is just as prevalent in these "camps" as in prison, if not more. That is why they continue to get shut down. I do agree that many of these kids need a good kick in the ass but abusing them doesn't cure them and often makes them worse.
I do not know what Virginia does but a few states reduce the charge to a misdemeanor depending on how serious it is if and ONLY if the offender completes the program.
my lil sister is going to boot camp next month shes 12 i wish her luck :/ and hoprfully they help her shes becoming a rebel teen but awh i noe shes gnna cry hear
@rythems123kim I am in my 30s and would never send a child to such a place. This is so horrible. I think your parents are damned arseholes if they send the poor child there and I would happily tell them in their faces. Bastards. Sending their child to Auschwitz.
These methods are effective when combined with counseling and treatments. Unfortunately abuse is very common in these teen boot camps when outsiders are not around including hitting, denial of the restroom, withholding of food/water, excessive forced exercise and other abuse.
@AresCassell They are not getting abused. They ARE getting discipline, physical conditioning, good food, and substance abuse counseling. I got more "abuse" in Army boot camp than these kids are getting and i didnt break any laws.
@george196161 Sure. Then why do places like this have so many abuse allegations? Why do they get shut down so often? Why do so many people get permanantly traumatized after going to places like this? They are often abusive and the abuse has been well documented.
Well im a convicted felon who enlisted in the army.I am grateful for the army giving me a chance to show how productive i can be.The term"ex-con" is no longer in my book,it is on paper but in my heart iam a veteran,a hero, and a soldier HOOAH!.Now im on my way home from my second tour in Iraq.Programs like these do work,im a perfect example.

i just got out of a probation boot camp a month ago. i looked it up to see if there were any similar to the one i went to. and look at what i found. only we got it way worse than that.
I shot this story 17 years ago and it still gets people talking.I should have posted the other three parts but they are in a tape file I don't have access to anymore. The stories had interviews with people that had been through the program. Both were positive, but they were also provided to us by the State.I would like to talk to some of the grads of this program. They would be in there 40s now.
@fmrph2 I graduated from the SITC class of 5-93 :), I don't think I recognize anyone in this video, save for the DIs..What month was this footage shot?
Not the way to deal with these kids. "Yeah, they just need some DISCIPLINE!" is the knee jerk Archie Bunker way of handling these kids' problems. Alot of them come from dysfuntional homes and poor backgrounds. There's also companies that make money off of doing this shit (running boot camps).
hm.... this was in 92? was this an attempt to expand the military threw convicts? cost effective and very smart to have this programs exist. because if they succeed then they ( the gov.) could simply turn around and say " oh hey, if this sets convicts straight then why cant we use them in the military .... " clinton was a smart sneaky mother fucker.
right convicted felons right? I was charged with a felony when I was 16 but never convicted just judicated...do you still think I can join the military.

@fmrph2 Convicted felons were at one time allowed to enlist with a waiver but not any more. You cannot have anything more than minor traffic violations to get in. No DUI, no reckless driving, drag racing, etc.

We tried this in the UK back in the 70s. It didn’t work. It wasted army time and NCOs that could have been doing something more constructive.

Convicted felons can't serve in the Military . This program had a high success rate, on kids not going back to prison, but not high enough I guess,
it only lasted a few years. Bill Clinton had nothing to do with this . It was a State program.
