unfortunately, metallica has made an influence on younger bands who are worse. I agree with Zarkiv. American bands (with the exception of a few like Iced Earth or Virgin Steele) are useless and cannot be traced back to the roots of classical music. At no point in time , the earlier Metallica was better than Iron maiden or Priest. Metallica just inherited good advertising and a rebellious fan base in the US. That improved their popularity.
