  • This is ROCK'N'ROLL in the 40's!

  • I knew Harry. He had a very bad drug problem at one time. Very talented man though. A real music man, but couldnt stay clean long enough to make things happen.

  • this guy MUST be on bennys

  • By far, for me the BEST Vid on YT, must see it 10 times a day !!! My Super-Favorit !

  • yes, they did have cocaine back then

  • google "BlueNoteBand" and you get Jimmy gibson (Harry's son) website, amazing vocalist and musician, with samples of his music, he is also one of a kind and a chip of the old block.

  • I had this on vinyl

  • Jim Carey's ancestor

  • @TheHlokey More like Jack McBrayer's ancestor.

  • Please tell me Harry The Hipster played the bad guy in a horror movie, and please link said horror movie, so that I can watch it five million times and more!

  • Jerry Lee Lewis has never been one to pay tribute to his mentors, but Harry was one of them, along with Moon Mullican. I love Harry's music, but it's tough to look at him for long.

  • @signjay Search for "Jerry Lee Lewis Gene Autry" in Youtube and watch. And how you can say that is tough to look at Harry? He is on of the most funny singers I have ever seen.

  • He is looking fanatical lol

  • Rock'n'roll (Alan Freed's euphemism for rhythm'n'blues) predates the technology that allowed it to be recorded. In other words, they were rockin' in the 19th century.

  • rock an roll sounds better with a piano... of course it helps that he plays it and sings better than most white people

  • Harry The Hipster was 10 years before Rock & Roll!

  • Thanks!

  • Harry the Hipsters son is my cousin. They do look alot alike but he does not play piano.

  • 1944?

  • Remember Jim Carrey's manic zoot suiter in The Mask? I know a lot of it is Chuck Jones but I wonder if Carrey didn't watch Harry for some of the facial expressions

  • I love it! Absolutely wonderful music- great showmanship- so much energy & vitality,humour,musicality- way ahead of its time- a real Gem!

  • redux, you're the best. Keep the world's most eclectic library comin'! Thanks a ton! Mothra has spoken..!!

  • watch?v=yg6ZSvrIUJk

New Harry youtube video not on search engine yet.

  • i really dont know who is better harry or jerry lee anyway both are very talented the hipster and the killer

  • Yes. The Hipster was the FIRST Jerry Lee Lewis! 10 years before the Killer. And like the Killer, who was career-derailed for marrying his 13 yr old cousin, The Hipster was derailed for "Who Put The Benzedrine.." Drugs were a NO-NO then!

    Memphis Piano Joe

  • I never could figure out what's so bad about marrying your 13 year old cousin. Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed. Marry 'em that young you can have 14 kids.

  • WOW!!! The only tune I knew Harry Gibson from was "Who Put the Benzedrine In Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine?"... To say this guy was immensely talented on the ivories would be a very gross understatement- even "phenomenal" would probably not do him justice. Thank you for posting this!!!

  • I thought this was the best of America -what a left hand! Great humour and hidden technique making it look easy - but it ain't, baby! Could this guy have been an influence on Jerry Lee Lewis? Got this link via tag 'HarryTheHipster' and cannot understand why I have not come across this performer before. If you are personally connected to this video then you are indeed fortunate, Harry. Thanks again for your comment on 'You'll Never Know'. Best wishes - David Keith Jones - Milton Keynes UK.

  • Harry Gibson was a genius that makes Einstein look stupid. Makes Beethoven look like a hack. Makes Leonardo look like a clown. Makes Wile E. Coyote look like a dumbass. This guy was a freaking SUPER GENIUS!!!!

  • I agree, Voce. I think both Jerry Lee and Little Richard got their act from Harry. I have a 45 minute documentary on him. It is amazing to watch.

  • What is the name of the documentary and where can you find it?

  • Mick, the documentary is called Boogie In Blue and it was published in 1991 on VHS only. It's hard to find and you can figure paying $50 or more on ebay if it ever comes up. The documentary video was published by Harry's daughter and produced by his granddaughter Flavyn Feller, hope this helps you find it. It's fantastic.

  • Could be, but there are also many differences in style.

  • I've always loved this far out, ahead of his time guy. The rock crowd, MTV crowd would go

crazy over him. I've ID'd myself after him !

  • Me too. I am Harry The Hipster on Myspace!

  • GREATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's chewing air. Benzedrine is the thing that makes him swing. (CF. Motorhead)

  • They got 2 kids and they're sure a mess

Now he's the father of two 4F's

So if they ever have to change his class

Man, they'll put him 8F in the draft

I hear he's living down The Village on Greenwich St.

    4F Ferdinand, the frantic freak

    He's doing all reet

    Well all reet!

  • Who put the smack and blow

    In Mister Gibson's Bazooka Joe?

  • I want some of WHATEVER Harry is chewing!

  • it's called gum

  • Who put the smack and blow

    In Mister Gibson's Bazooka Joe?
