Oh Thank you! I knew grape jelly was used for something. Is there any other asian dishes or sauces it's used in. I am finding Thai food uses peanuts in their dishes. Do you...? Love this stuff, appreciate your time helping all of us!!! Hi grammy....
awesome ... would carrots and peanuts be appropriate with the pineapple to ramp it up...mandorine oranges....grape jellly..? Thanks, this is really tasty
@duece10 Yes, you can experiment with almost anything in this sauce. They all sound like great ideas though the grape jelly may make it a bit on the super sweet side. I usually mix the grape jelly with something less sweet like chili sauce....ie. lil' smokies ;)
Good looking food thanks, but, I found myself counting how many times you said "go ahead" AAAAAAARRRGH!!! Maybe you should rename your site 'go ahead asian cooking'?
@xbeast133 At many places that sauce comes in a can. But I do have a recipe that comes close found here youtube(dot)com(forward slash)watch?v=7BrITQ4F4uE
@AsianCookingmadeEasy good question im just guessing here but maybe red food coloring because at all the chinese i go to it is almost always reddish color but boy i love it
Can I use Splenda brown sugar? My fiancee is diabetic and I try to reduce the sweets where I can. I just made some of your crab rangoons again and I thought I would look up this sauce instead of buying it at the store.
How much Ketchup did you use? Also, I have a ginger root, how do you get it to the consistency you did for recipe? I plan to use left over fried pork chops (breaded) after I cube. I think I should have Sweet and Sour Pork...??
I used 2 tablespoons of ketchup in this recipe. I also used ground ginger instead of fresh ginger root. The pork with this sauce sounds great - thanks for writing and watching :)
The pork was great with this sauce. I did make it again with a more involved recipe and it was a lot like what you get in restaurants. But a lot of work. This sauce was quick and easy. Now I am trying to locate the noodles like in Lo Mein. I keep getting something like spaghetti (marked japanese noodles). That is not the kind I get in Lo Mein in restaurants. What is the noodle? It is thicker.
I think you are wonderful my dear, and keep up the great wok, sorry I mean work lol! The thing I like about your presentations are they are so easy to follow, do you have a website?
BTW I think the great Southern Accent does it for me! xxx
I have never seen this kind of sauce before when I order out or when eating at a buffet. Maybe I am use to the easy stuff or American versions of Chinese food, but I normally see this with Pineapple among other fruits to make it sweet and sour, probably more sweet than sour. However, I my self have not tried this recipe so I probably shouldn't pass judgment. However the Sweet and Sour Chicken looks just like all the other buffets and order outs that I have seen. Looks delicious!
I've seen 2 kinds, ones like this are usually served at chinese takeaways, at chinese restaurants, they usually use a thicker sauce, less of it and loads of vegetables in it.
There are many different versions of sweet and sour sauce. The sauce itself was born out of a simple combination of white vinegar and sugar. I have a couple of different versions, one uses pineapple and another uses chili peppers. I will e-mail you the links to these recipes since I can't post them here in the comment section. Thanks for writing :)
Thanks, I've got a dinner date tomorrow night and i'm cooking. My mum gave me the recipe for sweet and sour sauce ages ago but I lost it so you kinda saved my bacon ! Im sure my mum used pineapple juice in the recipe somewhere but i'll try this version and see how it goes.
arent we suppose to use pinapple juice to make the sour part of the sauce?is it okay to use pinapple juice?

did you know that 50% of brown sugar is just dyed white sugar?
idk just felt like putting this out there lol
UrbanVapo 4 months ago
@UrbanVapo That is strange - I always thought the brown clr was just from added molasses. I'll have to look into it - thank you :)
AsianCookingmadeEasy 4 months ago
@AsianCookingmadeEasy i saw it on a show once, you can check if its real brown sugar bu putting it in water
if it loses colour then its just dyed white sugar

WHy not just boil the ketchup in with the rest?

It becomes a lumpy mess if it's boiled in and is much easier to mix in after :)
